The ‘Kelingai Motif’ in Iban’s tattoo motif : a case study of Kampung Gayau Ulu Pantu, Sri Aman Sarawak / Gladys Tagie, Nurul Shima Taharuddin and Noor Aileen Ibrahim

This research is conducted on core problem that had occurred on ‘Kelingai’ motif (cultural form) among new modern young generation. ‘Kelingai’ motif is a symbol of indigenous culture Iban people in Sarawak, but ironically has many motives ‘Kelingai’ intertwined with a modern motif and has been widely used by young people today. This generation seems to take for granted for the beauties of ‘Kelingai’ motifs that they leave behind their original motifs of tattoo founded by their ancient generation before in valuable traditional art. ‘Kelingai’ motif represent its own meaning according to geographical factor and tattoo wearer’s belief. This big question aroused deep interest for the researcher to explore and reveal the secret wold of ‘Kelingai’ motif of tattoo. The research had been conducted among Kampung Gayau’s resident who comes with their tattoo at all age levels. This research basically based on well-known theories, Erwin Panofsky Theory. This theory will reveal the meaning of ‘Kelingai’ history through it pproaches such as in style, type and symbol domains in the theory. These domains help us to know better about the history of ‘Kelingai’ motif in Kampung Gayau, explicity and also to Iban’s society internationally as a group of people who nourishing their ancestors’ life value into their young generation in modernization and globalizatio

Entrepreneurship attributes that help to develop photography graduates as entrepreneurs / Nur Akma Halili ... [et. al]

This study focuses on the involvement of photography graduates in commercial photography entrepreneurship or photography business. In the 10th Malaysian Plan, one of the government strategies has put target to transform Malaysia into high income nation. It is therefore, education through higher learning institutions particular young graduates is the targeted group to fulfill this strategy. This includes UiTM particularly photography graduates who have good potential to involve themselves in various photographic businesses. The objectives of this study are to investigate how many photography graduates who have involve in photographic businesses; and to analyse why the numbers of graduates are not interested in photographic entrepreneurship. The two main methods will be employed in this study: questionnaire and interview in obtaining relevant data and information to selected graduates, lecturers as well as graduates who have succeed in photography entrepreneurship. The significance of this the study will help to improve the current photography curriculum as well as to become guidelines for lecturers and current students to involve in photography entrepreneurship. Directly, it will help to government aspiration to become as a high-income nation

The Field of Science and Technology (S&T): The Representation of Women in Online Resources

The younger generation has lost interest in science and technology (S&T) as it is viewed as boring, mundane, technical and lacking in excitement. It is important to evoke interest among the young in the field of S&T as this will help the country to produce more specialists, scientists, engineers, and other professionals. Inventions such as solar energy, hybrid automobiles, green buildings and inventions are a few examples of how S&T can help build a more sustainable future. This study focuses on whether men and women are adequately portrayed in online resources as this will affect readers mainly the younger generation. Various articles from online resources were analyzed using Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) to examine language and images to raise awareness about issues of importance of this research. The findings show that there is an unequal representation of men and women in the field of S&T. Thus, necessary steps need to be taken to ensure that there is equal representation of both genders in the S&T field in online resources as this will only lead to positive effects to the society, the nation, and the world as well. Social media has the power to highlight important issues as different sectors of society are brought together through social media. It is hoped that this study will encourage others to acknowledge the countless contributions of women in the S&T field and to focus more attention on the rights of women to be given due recognition for their intelligence and abilities

In Negeri Sembilan, they are still practicing Minangkabau culture and custom. Element of uniqueness in Negeri. Sembilan has been shown on its architectural where the houses have dramatic curved roof structures with multitier. The art and architecture features a unique regional style. This house fills with cultural values, customs and reflects the people’s understanding about designing art and architecture that is in harmony with nature. The house serves as a residence, a hall for family meetings, and for ceremonial activities. This research, studies the understanding of art students towards the characteristic that are found in the Negeri Sembilan Minangkabau Traditional House (NSMTH) in Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia. The objectives are to identify the element of characteristic that shows the identity of Negeri Sembilan Minangkabau Traditional House and to determine the level of understanding on characteristic of a Minangkabau house by art students. Scope of this research is on understanding of Faculty Art & Design student that has syllabus on Malay art. The research methodology that been use in this research is quantitative where surveys are made among the art student
