    The use of wh questions technique to improve students' ability in writing caption text:a qualitative study at the twelfth grade students of MA Al Ma'arif Tanjungjaya Tasikmalaya

    This study investigates the improvement of students’ ability in writing caption text. It provides three research questions: the process of teaching learning caption text using WH Questions technique, the students’ ability in writing caption text before using WH Questions technique and the students’ ability in writing caption text after using WH Questions technique. The research was conducted at MA Al-Ma’arif Tanjungjaya grade XII, with qualitative descriptive method employing six students as purposive sample from 31 students. The data were students’ score in written test, given before (pre-test) and after (post-test) the treatments, which are generated from the assessment rubric description of Grew (2017). The results showed that the students can identify the detail of photo by answering the WH questions to state people or thing, places, time, reason and the way how the photo happened. They are more creative to connect the photo with the caption or on the contrary, and to connect the context of photo. Furthermore, all students get improvement in writing caption into three categories: low, medium and high. In other words, there is improvement in students’ writing caption ability by using WH Questions technique in grade XII MA Al-Ma’arif Tanjungjaya Tasikmalaya Academic Year 2019/2020
