Includes bibliographical references (p. 11-12).A new genus and species, Laoponia saetosa, are established to contain the first members of the family Caponiidae to be discovered in Asia. Only two Old World genera of caponiids have been described, both from Africa; in having only two eyes, the newly collected spiders from Laos resemble southern African Diploglena, rather than the type genus Caponia. However, members of Diploglena (which are poorly known, and are therefore discussed and illustrated) have an endite shape and eye pattern indicating that they may be most closely related to the Chilean genus Tisentnops. Laoponia may be most closely related instead to the endemic Californian genus Calponia; similar California/East Asia disjuncts are known in other old spider lineages

The 14 known species are diagnosed, described, and illustrated. Nine specific names are newly synonymized: P. abrahami O.P.-Cambridge, P. bottegi Pavesi, P. laterigradus Pocock, P. separatus O.P.-Cambridge, P. simoni O.P.-Cambridge, and P. bidentifer Strand, all with P. walteri (Karsch); P. beta Lawrence with P. alpha Lawrence; P. pusilliformis Tucker with P. pusillus Pocock; and P. lawrencei Lessert with P. leppanae Pocock. The males of P. pusillus Pocock and P. grandidieri Simon are described for the first time. The presence of a small but distinct apical segment on the anterior spinnerets suggests that gallieniellids are relatively plesiomorphic gnaphosoids. Two genera are recognized. Gallieniella includes the type species G. mygaloides Millot and the new species G. blanci and G. betroka, all from Madagascar, and the new species G. jocquei from the Comoro Islands. The new genus Legendrena includes four new species (L. angavokely, L. perinet, L. tamatave, and L. rolandi) from Madagascar"--P. [1]

The existence of a significant Australian fauna is established with the transfer of one species from Gnaphosoides and the description of three others. Five specific names are newly synonymized: variegata (Simon) and maculipes (Vellard), both with modesta Keyserling, and purpusi (Roewer), reynosana (Gertsch and Davis), and wheeleri (Bryant), all with bicolor Banks. Eilica trilineata (Mello-Leitão) is removed from the synonymy of variegata and considered a valid species. Three other genera (Hickmania, Gradungula, and Thaida) are sequentially considered plesiomorphic sister groups of the remaining araneomorphs. Sequenced and subordinated classifications derived from this cladogram are presented for purposes of comparison and evaluation. The family Ectatostictidae Lehtinen is newly synonymized with the Hypochilidae. Three genera (Otiothops MacLeay, Anisaedus Simon, and Fernandezina Birabén), restricted to the New World, are recognized. Compsopus Tullgren and Iheringia Keyserling are placed as junior synonyms of Anisaedus and Otiothops, respectively. The African genus Diaphorocellus Simon is removed from the synonymy of Iheringia and placed in the Chediminae. The possible phylogeny and zoogeographic history of the genera and species groups of Otiothopinae are discussed. Eleven new species are described: Otiothops loris from Peru; O. inflatus from Paraguay; O. baculus, facis, clarus, and contus from Brazil; O. intortus from Trinidad; Anisaedus pellucidas from Chile; and Fernandezina pelta, divisa, and acuta from Brazil. Four specific names are newly synonymized: Otiothops lapidicola Simon and O. carpenteri Chickerling, both with O. oblongus Simon; O. casobus Chickering with O. pentucus Chickering; and Anisaedus argentinus Mello-Leitão with A. rufus (Tullgren). The homonym Otiothops amazonicus Mello-Leitão is renamed O. pilleus.
