International audienceMany languages have at least two structural types of constituent questions: one is structurally parallel to the argument focus structures (for example, in some languages constituent questions are structured as cleft sentences), the other one does not show such parallelism. This paper is aimed at figuring out what factors are determining the structural type of the constituent question in several languages of the North Caucasus. These factors include the semantics of the question, the syntactic position of the questioned constituent and thetype of the main predicate. Surprisingly, in Maninka (Mande), where the basic structures of constituent questions and argument focus sentences are essentially different, the factors determining the structural type of a constituent question are very much alike

Il Corpus parallelo italiano-russo per lo studio del causativo in chiave contrastiva

In this paper I will show how a parallel corpus can be used to compare Rus- sian and Italian causative constructions. While the first is mainly lexical, causation in Italian is almost exclusively expressed through the construction \u2018make + infinitive\u2019. This corpus-based analysis will show, on the one hand, how Italian causative often loses its primary function and, on the other, how Russian, that does not always mark the op- position between direct and indirect causation, could be ambiguous when expressing the actants of a given causative situation. This confirms, once again, the predominantly synthetic nature of Russian compared to Italian
