Health and Social Care Inequalities:The Impact of COVID-19 on People Experiencing Homelessness in Brazil

This article aims to reflect on the challenges affecting people experiencing homelessness in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, due the COVID-19 pandemic. Participatory research was carried out to identify data related to sociodemographic profile; strategies for survival; health and social care support; and access to services during the pandemic. The research methodology was co-designed with NGOs and people with lived experience of homelessness and involved conducting semi-structured questionnaires with 304 participants in 2020. The results highlighted the worsening of the situation of extreme vulnerability and poverty already experienced by this population before the pandemic. Key strategies led by Third Sector organizations to reduce the spread of the virus, to minimize the financial impact of lockdown, and to increase emotional support and information on COVID-19 were presented. The conclusions show the complexity of issues affecting these groups and the need for urgent response from public policies and Government support to guarantee their rights, dignity, and respect during and after the COVID-19 pandemic

A FARDA E A INTIMIDADE: novos desafios da feminização das Forças Armadas Brasileira

Este artigo reflete como os valores militares da hierarquia e da disciplina se fazem presentes na interação dos casais de dupla-carreira nesse ambiente. A presença do efetivo feminino nas Forças Armadas Brasileira possibilitou relações diferenciadas pela estrutura militar, em sua dimensão afetiva, amorosa e sexual. Através de produções bibliográficas e observação participante, evidenciamos que o namoro e o casamento entre militares de diferentes escalões subvertem, na prática, as distâncias, sobretudo entre o círculo de praças e oficiais e abriram a possibilidade de desenrijecimento das diferenças hierárquicas, aspecto que impõe desafios à conciliação família-trabalho nesse ambiente.Palavras-chave: família; casamento; gênero; Forças Armadas Brasileira

LINGUAGEM, RELAÇÕES ÉTNICO-RACIAIS E POLÍTICAS PÚBLICAS: um diálogo entre Fanon, Kopenawa, Albert e Peirano

Este ensaio tem como finalidade refletir sobre o papel assumido pela linguagem e se constitui em fator contributivo à compreensão das relações étnico-raciais e políticas públicas que envolvem grupos, histórica e socialmente, marginalizados. Emoldurados por uma epistemologia decolonial, analisa três obras de Franz Fanon, Davi Kopenawa e Bruce Albert e Mariza Peirano. Ressalta que o pensamento e o diálogo entre os autores, cuja intenção se caracteriza pela ousadia de aparente assimetria entre figuras tão distintas, assinalam uma perspectiva que manifesta a contenda em conceber elementos de foro comum. Nossas conclusões apontam para as múltiplas dimensões envolvidas no processo da linguagem, revelando que, para além de nomear, ela se encontra intimamente vinculada com relações de poder, bem como a necessáriafocalização da discussão de raça e racismo no campo das políticas públicas.LANGUAGE, ETHNIC-RACIAL RELATIONS AND PUBLIC POLICIES: a dialogue between Fanon, Kopenawa and Albert, and PeiranoAbstractThis essay aims to reflect on the role assumed by language constitutes as a contributing factor for the understanding of ethnic-racial relations and public policies involving groups, historically and socially, marginalized. Framed by a decolonial epistemology, analyzes three works by Franz Fanon, DaviKopenawa and Bruce Albert and MarizaPeirano. Points out that the thought and dialogue between the authors, whose intention is characterized by the daring of apparent asymmetry between such distinct figures, points to a perspective that manifests the contention in conceiving elements of common fora. Our conclusions point to the multiple dimensions involved in the language process, revealing that, in addition to naming, it is closely linked to power relations, as well as the necessary focus on the discussion of race and racism in the field of publicpolicies.Keywords: Ethnic-racial relations; Public policies; Language
