Vibrational Spectroscopic Study of Two Dimensional Polymer Compounds of 5-Aminouracil

    No full text
In this study, FT-IR and FT-Raman spectra of two dimensional coordination polymer compounds, M(5AU)(2)Ni(CN)(4) (where M = Mn, Co, Ni, Zn and Cd; 5AU = 5-aminouracil i.e., 5-amino-2,4-dihydroxypyrimidine) were reported. 5-Aminouracil molecules are found to involve coordination through one of the pyrimidine ring nitrogen atoms. The spectral features suggest that the compounds are similar in structure to the Hofmann type two dimensional coordination polymer compounds, formed with Ni(CN)(4)(2-) ions bridged by M(5AU)(2)(2+) cations. Vibrational bands originated from both 5AU and Ni(CN)(4) group were assigned.WoSScopu

The aim of the study is investigating the effect of constructivist approach on students' understanding of the concepts related to hydrolysis subject, comparing constructivist approach with traditional teaching method and determining the differences between student success in constructivist approach and traditional teaching method. Totally 100 students have participated in the study. The age average of the students is 18-21. The control and the treatment group have been determined randomly. Traditional teaching applications have been conducted with control group and constructivist teaching applications have been conducted with treatment group. Hydrolysis Concept Test has been administered as pre test to control and treatment groups to determine the understanding level of the students related to hydrolyzes concepts. The data has been analyzed by using statistical analysis techniques. The results have displayed that the constructivist teaching applications has had contributions on students' understanding of the concepts related to the hydrolysis subject. An Interdisciplinary Look at The Comparative Examination of Physics and Chemistry Coursebooks

    No full text
In the study, the aim was to examine comparatively the subjects in the physics and chemistry course books, which are designed in accordance with the physics and chemistry education programs, and to deal with common concepts found in these two disciplines employing an interdisciplinary approach. The study was realized by using analytical research model. Data of the study consists of Ministry of Education approved physics and chemistry textbooks for 9th, 10th, and 11th grades. Data were analyzed by content analysis method. As a result of the study, with the comparative examination of physics and chemistry course books, it was determined that the similarities are in the states of matter, heat, temperature, and energy subjects. In this respect, it is thought that determining common concepts especially in course books would be a solution to the lack of sufficient class hours, which is one of the most significant problems of the program

The study deals with the evaluation of the achievement of high school students concerning such topics as "reaction rate, reaction order, factors affecting reaction" which are included in the unit of "Reaction Rate and Chemical Equilibrium", a part of chemistry program. To this, three measurement tools used as data collection tools; the "Achievement Test on Reaction Rate" (RRAT), the "Graphical Test on Reaction Rate (RRGT) and the "Anxiety Scale on the Use of Graphics" (ASUG) in chemistry problems. The participants of the study were 129 eleventh graders attending four Anatolian high schools in the province of Sivas. The study was carried out on one group. The findings obtained showed that the participants had higher mean scores in RRAT in contrast to those in RRGT. It was further found that the anxiety of the participants in regarding to the problems with graphics is higher. It was also determined that there is a statistically significant, negative and weal correlation between the student achievement in RRGT and the anxiety levels in regarding to the problems with graphics. In the study students' misconceptions about "salts" topic were tried to determine by benefiting from experiences of the researcher and teachers who are working in this field. A test was prepared which are consisted of open-ended and multiple choice questions to determine possible misconceptions about "salts" by benefiting from various chemistry books. It was determined that students have misconceptions about "salts" in basic level. Also suggestions were made to eliminate these misconceptions by determining the reasons of these.
