Cyclosporin A-binding protein (cyclophilin) of Neurospora crassa

    Get PDF
Cyclophilin (cyclosporin A-binding protein) has a dual localization in the mitochondria and in the cytosol of Neurospora crassa. The two forms are encoded by a single gene which is transcribed into mRNAs having different lengths and 5' termini (approximately 1 and 0.8 kilobases). The shorter mRNA specifies the cytosolic protein consisting of 179 amino acids. The longer mRNA is translated into a precursor polypeptide with an amino-terminal extension of 44 amino acids which is cleaved in two steps upon entry into the mitochondrial matrix. Neurospora cyclophilin shows about 60% sequence homology to human and bovine cyclophilins

The nonrelativistic limit of the relativistic point coupling model

We relate the relativistic finite range mean-field model (RMF-FR) to the point-coupling variant and compare the nonlinear density dependence. From this, the effective Hamiltonian of the nonlinear point-coupling model in the nonrelativistic limit is derived. Different from the nonrelativistic models, the nonlinearity in the relativistic models automatically yields contributions in the form of a weak density dependence not only in the central potential but also in the spin-orbit potential. The central potential affects the bulk and surface properties while the spin-orbit potential is crucial for the shell structure of finite nuclei. A modification in the Skyrme-Hartree-Fock model with a density-dependent spin-orbit potential inspired by the point-coupling model is suggested.Comment: 21 pages, latex, 1 eps figure. accepted for publication in annals of physic

Pretreatment With Fragments of Substance-P or With Cholecystokinin Differentially Affects Recovery From Sub-Total Nigrostriatal 6-Hydroxydopamine Lesion

The neuropeptide substance P is known to have mnemogenic and reinforcing actions and can exert neurotrophic and regenerative effects in vitro as well as in vivo. Furthermore, our previous work in the rat showed that either pre- or post-lesion treatment with substance P can promote functional recovery in cases of partial nigrostriatal dopamine lesions. Other work has provided evidence that the effects of substance P might be differentially encoded by its C- and N-terminal fragments. The C-terminal fragment was found to be reinforcing, whereas the mnemogenic as well as neurotrophic properties have been ascribed to the N-terminal sequences. Given these relations, we asked here whether pre-lesion treatment with either a C- or an N-terminal fragment of substance P might differentially affect the behavioral and neurochemical outcome of nigrostriatal dopamine lesions. Therefore, either substance P1−7 or substance P5−11 (37 nmol/kg each) was administered intraperitoneally daily for eight consecutive days before unilateral 6-hydroxy-dopamine lesions of the substantia nigra. Control rats received prelesion treatment with vehicle. Furthermore, we investigated the effects of pre-treatment with Boc-cholecystokinin-4 (0.91 nmol/kg), as we had found an increase in dopamine metabolism in animals that were pre-treated with cholecystokinin-8 in a former study. In accordance with our previous work, drug treatment effects were observed when excluding animals with most severe dopamine lesions: In animals with partial lesions (residual neostriatal dopamine levels of more than 10%), lesion-dependent asymmetries in turning behavior were observed in animals that were pre-treated with vehicle-, substance P1−7 , or Boc-cholecysto-kinin–4,. whereas turning after pre-treatment with substance P5−11 was not significantly asymmetrical. Furthermore, the ipsi- and contra-lateral neostriatal dopamine levels did not differ significantly in this group. Moreover, pre treatment with substance P5−11 affected dopamine metabolism in the neostriatum and in the venral striatum, as indicated by increased ratios of dihydroxyphenyllic acid to dopamine. The data provide the first evidence that the promotive effects of substance-P treatment in the unilateral dopamine lesion model might be mediated by its C-terminal and might depend on actions on residual dopamine mechanisms

Nuclear Many-Body Dynamics constrained by QCD and Chiral Symmetry

We present a novel description of nuclear many-body systems, both for nuclear matter and finite nuclei, emphasizing the connection with the condensate structure of the QCD ground state and spontaneous chiral symmetry breaking. Lorentz scalar and vector mean-fields are introduced in accordance with QCD sum rules. Nuclear binding arises from pionic fluctuations, using in-medium chiral perturbation theory up to three-loop order. Ground state properties of 16^{16}O and 40^{40}Ca are calculated. The built-in QCD constraints reduce the number of input parameters significantly in comparison with purely phenomenological relativistic mean-field approaches.Comment: 6 pages, 3 figures, to be published in European Physical Journal

Ileocecal Intussusception with Histomorphological Features of Inflammatory Neuropathy in Adenovirus Infection

The pathophysiological mechanisms for ileocecal intussusception in children with adenovirus infection are not well characterized. Here we demonstrate coincidence of adenovirus infection and inflammatory neuropathy of myenteric plexus in two children with ileocecal intussusception. Inflammatory neuropathy, an unspecific morphological feature which is found in peristalsis disorders, was morphologically characterized by the influx of CD3 positive lymphocytes in nervous plexus. To our knowledge, this is the first report suggesting peristalsis disorders from inflammatory neuropathy as additional mechanism in the pathophysiological concept of adenovirus-associated ileocecal intussusception

Spatio-temporal precipitation climatology over complex terrain using a censored additive regression model

Flexible spatio-temporal models are widely used to create reliable and accurate estimates for precipitation climatologies. Most models are based on square root transformed monthly or annual means, where a normal distribution seems to be appropriate. This assumption becomes invalid on a daily time scale as the observations involve large fractions of zero-observations and are limited to non-negative values. We develop a novel spatio-temporal model to estimate the full climatological distribution of precipitation on a daily time scale over complex terrain using a left-censored normal distribution. The results demonstrate that the new method is able to account for the non-normal distribution and the large fraction of zero-observations. The new climatology provides the full climatological distribution on a very high spatial and temporal resolution, and is competitive with, or even outperforms existing methods, even for arbitrary locations

Nowadays we frequently can't say which clothes weshould wear tomorrow. The problem is that there is no weather forecast service which can provide us exact weather forecast even for tomorrow, needless to say about further future. Main purpose of this work is to design system that will predict which weather forecast service should be used today to know weather for tomorrow. Authors suggest to evaluate forecasting value of temperature relying on statistics. They describe steps which they need to pass to achieve the purpose. As a result authors want to develop software which can provide weather forecast with higher probability than all existing services
