    Comparing BDD and SAT based techniques for model checking Chaum's Dining Cryptographers Protocol

    We analyse different versions of the Dining Cryptographers protocol by means of automatic verification via model checking. Specifically we model the protocol in terms of a network of communicating automata and verify that the protocol meets the anonymity requirements specified. Two different model checking techniques (ordered binary decision diagrams and SAT-based bounded model checking) are evaluated and compared to verify the protocols

    Dispersed oil impact on froth stability in flotation

    Journal ArticleFoam stability in flotation has been studied for more than half of the last century, however, the mechanisms responsible for the defoaming action of many presently used reagents are not completely understood. This research presents oil flotation data, which may be used in the evaluation of aqueous methods for oily soil treatment. MIBC (isobutylcarbinol, 4-methyl-2-pentanol) and C12E10 (polyoxyethylene 10 lauryl ether) were used as surfactants. Dynamic and static froth stability in the presence of emulsified paraffin oil was determined as a function of the surfactant concentration. The froth stability was examined for the O/W emulsion only and combined with silica particles (-38ÎŒm) suspension. The entry, spreading and bridging coefficients were determined to elucidate the mechanism of oil interaction in the froth phase

    What's on your plate? Collecting multimodal data to understand commensal behavior

    Eating is a fundamental part of human life and is, more than anything, a social activity. A new field, known as Computational Commensality has been created to computationally address various social aspects of food and eating. This paper illustrates a study on remote dining we conducted online in May 2021. To better understand this phenomenon, known as Digital Commensality, we recorded 11 pairs of friends sharing a meal online through a videoconferencing app. In the videos, participants consume a plate of pasta while chatting with a friend or a family member. After the remote dinner, participants were asked to fill in the Digital Commensality questionnaire, a validated questionnaire assessing the effects of remote commensal experiences, and provide their opinions on the shortcomings of currently available technologies. Besides presenting the study, the paper introduces the first Digital Commensality Data-set, containing videos, facial landmarks, quantitative and qualitative responses. After surveying multimodal data-sets and corpora that we could exploit to understand commensal behavior, we comment on the feasibility of using remote meals as a source to build data-sets to investigate commensal behavior. Finally, we explore possible future research directions emerging from our results

    Social Interaction Data-sets in the Age of Covid-19: a Case Study on Digital Commensality

    Research focusing on social interaction often leverages data-sets, allowing annotation, analysis, and modeling of social behavior. When it comes to commensality, researchers have started working on computational models of food and eating-related activities recognition. The growing research area known as Digital Commensality, has focused on meals shared online, for instance, through videochat. However, to investigate this topic, traditional data-sets recorded in laboratory settings may not be the best option in terms of ecological validity. Covid-19 restrictions and lock-downs have increased in online gatherings, with many people becoming used to the idea of sharing meals online. Following this trend, we propose the concept of collecting data by recording online interactions and discuss the challenges related to this methodology. We illustrate our approach in creating the first Digital Commensality data-set, containing recordings of food-related social interactions collected online during the Covid-19 outbreak

    Implementation of Large Neural Networks Using Decomposition

    The article presents methods of dealing with huge data in the domain of neural networks. The decomposition of neural networks is introduced and its efficiency is proved by the authors’ experiments. The examinations of the effectiveness of argument reduction in the above filed, are presented. Authors indicate, that decomposition is capable of reducing the size and the complexity of the learned data, and thus it makes the learning process faster or, while dealing with large data, possible. According to the authors experiments, in some cases, argument reduction, makes the learning process harder

    Selective targeting of HDAC1/2 elicits anticancer effects through Gli1 acetylation in preclinical models of SHH Medulloblastoma.

    SHH Medulloblastoma (SHH-MB) is a pediatric brain tumor characterized by an inappropriate activation of the developmental Hedgehog (Hh) signaling. SHH-MB patients treated with the FDA-approved vismodegib, an Hh inhibitor that targets the transmembrane activator Smoothened (Smo), have shown the rapid development of drug resistance and tumor relapse due to novel Smo mutations. Moreover, a subset of patients did not respond to vismodegib because mutations were localized downstream of Smo. Thus, targeting downstream Hh components is now considered a preferable approach. We show here that selective inhibition of the downstream Hh effectors HDAC1 and HDAC2 robustly counteracts SHH-MB growth in mouse models. These two deacetylases are upregulated in tumor and their knockdown inhibits Hh signaling and decreases tumor growth. We demonstrate that mocetinostat (MGCD0103), a selective HDAC1/HDAC2 inhibitor, is a potent Hh inhibitor and that its effect is linked to Gli1 acetylation at K518. Of note, we demonstrate that administration of mocetinostat to mouse models of SHH-MB drastically reduces tumor growth, by reducing proliferation and increasing apoptosis of tumor cells and prolongs mouse survival rate. Collectively, these data demonstrate the preclinical efficacy of targeting the downstream HDAC1/2-Gli1 acetylation in the treatment of SHH-MB

    First Results from the TOTEM Experiment

    The first physics results from the TOTEM experiment are here reported, concerning the measurements of the total, differential elastic, elastic and inelastic pp cross-section at the LHC energy of s\sqrt{s} = 7 TeV, obtained using the luminosity measurement from CMS. A preliminary measurement of the forward charged particle η\eta distribution is also shown.Comment: Conference Proceeding.
