Ultrafast all-optical switching by cross phase modulation induced wavelength conversion in silicon-on-insulator waveguides and ring resonators

We present new results on ultrafast alloptical wavelength conversion in Silicon-on-Insulator waveguides through cross phase modulation. We demonstrate sub-picosecond all-optical switching with 13dB on/off ratio by combining the nonlinear wavelength conversion in the port waveguide with passive filtering using an integrated SOI microring resonator.\u

Factors of influence upon overall survival in the treatment of intracranial MPNSTs. Review of the literature and report of a case

BACKGROUND: Intracranial malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumors are rare entities that carry a poor prognosis. To date, there are no established therapeutic strategies for these tumors. METHODS: We review the present treatment modalities and present the current therapeutic dilemmas. We perform a statistical analysis to evaluate the prognostic factors for Overall Survival of these patients. Additionally, we present our experience with a 64-year-old man with a MPNST of the left cerebellopontine angle. RESULTS: To our best knowledge, forty three patients with intracranial MPNSTs, including our case, have been published in the international literature. Our analysis showed gross total resection, radiotherapy and female gender to be beneficial prognostic factors of survival in the univariate analysis. Gross total resection was recognized as the only independent predictor of prolonged Overall Survival. In our case, we performed a gross total resection followed for the first time by stereotactically guided radiotherapy. CONCLUSION: Considering the results of the statistical analysis and the known advantages of the stereotaxy, we suggest aggressive surgery followed by stereotactically guided radiotherapy as therapy of choice

Цель работы – разработка мероприятий для повышения эффективности и безопасности работы объектов линейной части магистрального газопровода "Сила Сибири". В процессе исследования проводились расчеты толщины стенки трубопровода, расчет на прочность и устойчивость, прогнозный расчет размыва грунта засыпки на склоне на основании СП 36.13330.2012, СП 425.1325800.2018, а также с использованием РД 51-2.4-007-97 как справочного материала. Рассмотрены вопросы причин и последствий аварий на магистральных газопроводах (МГ), воздействия на МГ опасных геологических процессов (ОГП), рассмотрение процесса разработки и обоснования выбора мероприятий и сооружений инженерной защиты МГ от эрозионных процессов.The object of study is the section of the Power of Siberia gas pipeline. Ultra-Fast All-Optical Wavelength Conversion in Silicon Waveguides using Femtosecond Pulses

The propagation of 300 femtosecond optical pulses in Silicon-on Insulator waveguides has been studied by means of a pump-probe set-up. Large Cross Phase Modulation (XPM) induced red and blue shifts (9nm and 15nm, respectively) of the probe signal have been observed depending on the delay between pump (1554nm) and probe (1683nm) pulses. A numerical model taking into account Two Photon Absorption (TPA) and Free Carrier Absorption (FCA) in the semiconductor waveguide is presented and provides good agreement with the experimental data. Our model reveals that the wavelength conversion is dominated by the instantaneous optical Kerr effect, enabling ultra-fast all-optical functionalities. Furthermore, the importance of waveguide dispersion on the wavelength conversion efficiency will be treated in the case of femtosecond pulses

A Test Setup for Quality Assurance of Front End Hybrids

The APV Readout Control (ARC) Test Setup is a compact, cost efficient test and diagnostic tool which is suited for full operation and characterisation of FE hybrids and Si-Detector modules. This note gives an overview of the construction and the features of the test facility. Based on the ARC setup and the experience gained with one prototype FE hybrid, possible quality assurance scenarios for short and long term tests of FE hybrids are also presented
