In this paper, we establish theorems of the alternative for a system described by inequalities, equalities and an inclusion, which are generalizations of Tucker's classical theorem of the alternative, and develop Kuhn-Tucker necessary conditions for efficiency to mathematical programs in normed spaces involving inequality, equality and set constraints with positive Lagrange multipliers of all the components of objective functions.Theorem of the alternative, Kuhn-Tucker necessary condition, constraint qualification.

On constraint qualifications with generalized convexity and optimality conditions

This paper deals with a multiobjective programming problem involving both equality constraints in infinite dimensional spaces. It is shown that some constraint qualifications together with a condition of interior points are sufficient conditions for the invexity of constraint maps with respect to the same scale map. Under a new constraint qualification which involves an invexity condition and a generalized Slater condition a Kuhn-Tucker necessary condition is established.Invexity, scale, constraint qualification, nearly S-convelike mapping.

This paper deals with multiobjective programming problems with in- equality, equality and set constraints involving Dini or Hadamard differentiable func- tions. A theorem of the alternative of Tucker type is established, and from which Kuhn-Tucker necessary conditions for local Pareto minima with positive Lagrange multipliers associated with all the components of objective functions are derived.Theorem of the alternative, Kuhn-Tucker necessary conditions, direc- tionally differentiable functions.

The EMOTION-IS-LIQUID Metaphor in English and Vietnamese: A Contrastive Analysis

    Get PDF
AbstractBased on Lakoff's conceptual metaphor theory and Kovecses’ basic emotion terms, this pilot research found that English and Vietnamese share the conceptual metaphor EMOTION IS LIQUID. For each basic emotion term, the proportion of the EMOTION IS LIQUID expressions to the total of emotion tokens was relatively small. The translation of one language to the other fell into the same conceptual metaphor. Examples were collected from the Corpus of Contemporary American English, the World Wide Web, and the VietnameseWaC corpus. An implication for English teaching is to categorize expressions into different conceptual metaphors to enhance learners’ word choice

The use of and-coordination in terms of its syntactic (a)symmetry in argumentative essays : a corpus-based study of three university learner groups in MICUSP and NUCLE.

Studies found EL learners overuse and as an additive connector at the sentence-initial position (Bolton, Hung, & Nelson, 2002), and they underuse and as a coordinator (Leung, 2005). Generally, the use of the and-coordinator has often been overlooked in corpus research and in English teaching because of its seemingly simplicity. To test previous findings about the and-coordinator and to examine the influence of English proficiency on the use of and in academic writing, three learner corpora--MICUSP-NNS (advanced level), MICUSP-NS (advanced level), and NUCLE-NNS (upper-intermediate) were compared, with regard to the use of (a)symmetric structures of the and-coordination. Each corpus contains 31 argumentative essays written by 31 university students
