    Granular crystals in palm oil based shortening/margarine : a review

    Palm oil based shortenings and margarines are important products within the lipid industry. However, a widespread quality deterioration issue is often reported regarding their long-term storage: the appearance of granular crystals or grains that are regarded as unwanted because of the deflecting visual appearance and the negative mouthfeel during consumption. In this review, the role of fat blends composition, crystallization process and storage conditions in the formation and growth of these unwanted granular crystals will be discussed and summarized. In addition, some potential approaches in preventing the formation of granular crystals in palm oil based shortening and margarine are also introduced

    Efficient and accurate calculation of exact exchange and RPA correlation energies in the Adiabatic-Connection Fluctuation-Dissipation theory

    Recently there has been a renewed interest in the calculation of exact-exchange and RPA correlation energies for realistic systems. These quantities are main ingredients of the so-called EXX/RPA+ scheme which has been shown to be a promising alternative approach to the standard LDA/GGA DFT for weakly bound systems where LDA and GGA perform poorly. In this paper, we present an efficient approach to compute the RPA correlation energy in the framework of the Adiabatic-Connection Fluctuation-Dissipation formalism. The method is based on the calculation of a relatively small number of eigenmodes of RPA dielectric matrix, efficiently computed by iterative density response calculations in the framework of Density Functional Perturbation Theory. We will also discuss a careful treatment of the integrable divergence in the exact-exchange energy calculation which alleviates the problem of its slow convergence with respect to Brillouin zone sampling. As an illustration of the method, we show the results of applications to bulk Si, Be dimer and atomic systems.Comment: 12 pages, 6 figures. To appear in Phys. Rev.

    Poverty and inequality maps for rural Vietnam: an application of small area estimation

    The objective of the paper is to update the small area estimates of poverty and inequality for rural Vietnam. The new estimates of province and district level poverty for the year 2006, when combined with estimates available for 1999, allow for examination of how poverty has changed in rural Vietnam over the past seven years. The analysis finds that all provinces across the country experienced a noticeable reduction in rural poverty during the period 1999-2006. Some of the largest reductions in poverty are observed for provinces with poverty rates close to the national average. The poorest provinces have also experienced reductions in poverty, albeit at a more modest pace. Provinces and districts with lower levels of inequality in 2006 have seen above average poverty reductions. The authors consider both expenditure and income based measures of poverty and inequality, and find the results to be very similar.Rural Poverty Reduction,Regional Economic Development,Achieving Shared Growth,Services&Transfers to Poor

    Towards green growth in Vietnam: the case of marine capture fisheries

    The objective of this study is to assess sustainable development and the potential for green growth of the marine capture fisheries in Vietnam. We use “standard” bio-economic models with additional terms to correct some of ecosystem externalities and to define reference points for the fisheries. The results show that Vietnam’s marine capture fisheries are unsustainable and the fishing effort needs to be reduced about 0.35 and 0.39 of present effort in order to achieve the maximum sustainable yield and maximum economic yield, respectively. If ecosystem externalities are taken into account, the situation is even worse. The potential for green growth in the fisheries is estimated to be about 7.3 billion USD, higher than the export value for fisheries and aquaculture products in Vietnam in 2016. Green growth policies for the fisheries include public subsidies to environmentally friendly industries, reducing the “trash” fish catch and more efficient regulations more effectively enforced

    Improving Machine Translation Quality with Denoising Autoencoder and Pre-Ordering

    The problems in machine translation are related to the characteristics of a family of languages, especially syntactic divergences between languages. In the translation task, having both source and target languages in the same language family is a luxury that cannot be relied upon. The trained models for the task must overcome such differences either through manual augmentations or automatically inferred capacity built into the model design. In this work, we investigated the impact of multiple methods of differing word orders during translation and further experimented in assimilating the source languages syntax to the target word order using pre-ordering. We focused on the field of extremely low-resource scenarios. We also conducted experiments on practical data augmentation techniques that support the reordering capacity of the models through varying the target objectives, adding the secondary goal of removing noises or reordering broken input sequences. In particular, we propose methods to improve translat on quality with the denoising autoencoder in Neural Machine Translation (NMT) and pre-ordering method in Phrase-based Statistical Machine Translation (PBSMT). The experiments with a number of English-Vietnamese pairs show the improvement in BLEU scores as compared to both the NMT and SMT systems

    Modelling of dishing for metal chemical mechanical polishing

    In this paper, a physical model for the development of dishing during metal chemical mechanical polishing (CMP) is proposed. The main assumption of the model is that material removal occurs predominantly at the pad/wafer contacts. The distribution of pad/wafer contact size is studied first. This distribution is used as an input for a model of the dependence for the material removal rate on the line width.
