Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to undertake a “real-time” assessment of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the right to participate in hospitality and tourism and to illustrate where such rights are under threat. Design/methodology/approach: This discussion is based on a review of current events, assessed through interpretation of a human rights lens. Findings: Rights to participate in hospitality and tourism, particularly in parts of Asia, Europe and North America, were affected on a scale unprecedented in peacetime. Research limitations/implications: The rights to participate in hospitality and tourism have been challenged as never before. The big questions that will need to be answered going forward are the extent to which such rights will be restored, post-COVID-19. Originality/value: This is a “real-time” assessment and will require re-visiting as events unfold over the coming months and years

INFLUENCE OF GROWING MEDIA AND VARIETIES ON GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT OF MOKARA IN TAM KY, QUANG NAM PROVINCE

Abstract: Mokara Orchid is a trigeneric hybrid between the Ascocentrum, Vanda and Arachnis Orchids and was created in Singapore in 1969. Mokara is now popularly grown in Vietnam; however, research on variety or growing medium for Mokara orchid in Quang Nam has not been reported yet. The objective of this study is to identify adapted Moraka varieties and suitable growing media for the cultivation of Mokara orchids under the local conditions. The experiment was conducted from June 2016 to December 2017 at Truong Xuan Ward, Tam Ky City, Quang Nam province using a subplot design, where the growing medium is the main plot and Mokara orchid varietyis the split-plot. The experiment includes three Mokara varieties belonging to genus Mokara with 3 colors: yellow, lime, and pink spotand four growing media with different ratios of peanut shell, charcoal, and coir. The results show that the growing media significantly affect the plant height and flower yield, but they do not affect the leaf number, leaf length, leaf width, root number, and flower quality of the Mokara varieties. The varieties affect the growth and development, flower quality, and yield of Mokara. Using the same media, the pink spot Mokara variety gains the best growth and development, and the yellow Mokara variety provides the highest yield. These Mokara varieties gain the best flower quality. The growing medium with 50% coir and 50% peanut shell can be used to plant yellow Mokara (or pink spot Mokara) under the local conditions. Keywords: Mokara orchid varieties, growing medium, coir, peanut shell, yellow Mokara, pink spot Mokar

PHOTOCATALYTIC DEGRADATION OF FORMIC ACID INAQUEOUS WITH Ni DOPED TiO2 COATED ON SILICAGEL

Formic acid (FA) photocatalytic degradation using nickel doped TiO2 (Ni-TiO2) coated on silica grain (Ni-TiO2/SiO2) by sol-gel method has been studied. Nickel with a different molar ratio as 0.2, 0.4, and 0.8 % mole was used in this study. Samples were characterized by XRD, SEM, and UV-vis spectroscopy. Conditions such as dark, ultraviolet-visible and visible light were performed to assess the photocatalytic ability of Ni-TiO2/SiO2. The results showed that, catalyst samples had uniform nanosize, anatase crystalline structure and the band-gap energy of Ni-TiO2/SiO2 was lower than that of TiO2/SiO2 sample. The highest photocatalyst activities were obtained at 0.2 % mol of Ni for both irradiations. The FA concentration was not changed in the dark condition. Under ultraviolet-visible irradiation, FA concentration decreased from 10-4 mM to 2.10-5, 7.10-5 and 9.10-5 mM with 0.2, 0.4 and 0.8 % mole of Ni, respectively. With visible light condition, FA concentration decreased from 10-4 mM to 7.10-5 mM when Ni dopant amount was 0.2 % mole. Change in FA concentration was negligible with 0.4 and 0.8 % mole of Ni dopant amount. It proved that the photocatalytic activity of Ni-TiO2/SiO2 under visible light irradiation was generated by doping a small amount of nickel into TiO2. However, under visible light irradiation with 420 nm filter, FA photodegradation of Ni/TiO2/SiO2 increases when Ni dopant content increases from 0 % mole to 0.8 % mole

TEACHERS’ CORRECTIVE FEEDBACK ON ENGLISH STUDENTS’ WRITING

    Get PDF
This investigates the participants’ attitudes towards corrective feedback as well as the types of corrective feedback on learners’ performance by questionnaires for both students and teachers. Fifty–eight 2nd-year students and 5 teachers of English at a university in the Mekong Delta of Vietnam participated in the study. The results indicated that students had a positive attitude towards teachers’ corrective feedback. Besides, with the analyzed data, correction with comments and teacher correction was considered as the most useful strategy when giving feedback in the learners’ performance. The outcomes of the study suggest a widespread employment of corrective feedback in teaching writing at universities and colleges in the region.   Article visualizations

Empirical Investigation of Omni-channel Customer Behavior: Multiple Mediation Effects of Website and Mobile Interactivity

    Get PDF
While existing retail research has focused on retail channels in isolation from a single or multi-channel retailing perspective, there is a need to investigate shopping behavioral intention from an omni-channel and customer-centric retailing perspective. The main of this study is to analyze the customer omni-channel behavior under multiple mediating effects of website and mobile interactivity. Data collected from valid 287 respondents via both online and paper form. Partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) and Smart-PLS software have been used to test proposed hypotheses. The result underlined the significant positive effects of technology literacy, attitude towards website interactivity and attitude towards mobile device interactivity on customer’s behavioral intention. Moreover, website interactivity and augmented reality have highest impact attitude towards website interactivity and attitude towards mobile device interactivity respectively

Relationship between Transformational Leadership Style and Leadership Thinking of Provincial Administration Leaders

    Get PDF
Objectives: The transformational leadership style is accepted as suitable for leading administrative agencies to achieve outstanding results and help organizations cope with challenges. Besides, leadership thinking is also considered to have a very important role in leadership performance in administrative agencies. Therefore, the main objective of the study is to explore the relationship between transformational leadership style and leader thinking to organization's performance. Methods: The article focuses on explaining the views on transformational leadership style, healthy thinking, and the relationship between transformational leadership style and leadership thinking, and at the same time points out the current status of transformational leadership style, transformational leadership, leadership thinking as well as this relationship in practice among the leaders of provincial agencies in Vietnam. Descriptive, inductive, deductive, synthetic, and quantitative statistical methods were applied to interpret the results. Findings: Research results show that transformational leadership style, leadership thinking in the team of leaders of provincial agencies is quite average, there is a strong positive correlation between transformational leadership style. In contrast to leadership thinking, a more transformative leadership style means that it requires an innovative leadership thinking. Novelty:The results achieved when applying a transformational leadership style are quite closely related to the application of leadership thinking to solve leadership challenges. Doi: 10.28991/esj-2021-01307 Full Text: PD
