Fabrication and Evaluation of the Photocatalytic, Antibacterial Activity of Ag–TiO2_2 Thin Film

    Get PDF
Ag–TiO2 thin film was fabricated by DC magnetron sputtering and photoreduction methods. Characteristics of the film such as surface area, crystal structure, and chemical composition were investigated by using scanning electron microscope (SEM), X–ray diffractometry (XRD) and UV–vis spectra. The photocatalytic activity of Ag–TiO2 thin film was determined by the degradation of methylene blue (MB) solution under various irradiation conditions. The antibacterial property of Ag–TiO2 thin film was conducted in E. coli bacteria. Results showed that the photocatalytic and antibacterial property of Ag–TiO2 thin film are better than those of pure TiO2 thin film in the visible region. Ag–TiO2 thin film shows a great potential application in the antibacterial and environment field

The status of southern white-cheeked gibbon (Nomascus siki) in Truong Son key biodiversity area

The Southern white-cheeked crested gibbon, Nomascus siki, is an endemic primate to Vietnam and Laos, and has been identified as a nationally and globally endangered species (EN). However, little information is known on the status of the species in Vietnam generally and in the Truong Son key biodiversity area (Truong Son KBA) particularly. In order to explore the current status of the species in the Truong Son KBA, we conducted field surveys in 2018 and 2019. Analysis of the survey data shows 149 groups of gibbon in the 4 study areas. Combined with results of similar-techniqued survey in 2016 on the same species in Khe Nuoc Trong forest, we identified at least 252 gibbon groups and estimated 425 gibbon groups in the entire Truong Son KBA. These gibbon groups are mainly distributed in medium-rich evergreen closed forests in mountainous areas of the west Truong Son KBA, adjacent to the Vietnam-Laos border.

The Relationship between HLA-B27, HLA-Cw06, HLA-DR7 and Psoriatic Arthritis in Vietnamese Patients: Disease Progression and Therapeutic Burden

We conducted a prospective, cross-sectional study at Ho Chi Minh City Hospital of Dermato Venereology from January 2016 to March 2017 in 40 psoriatic arthritis (PsA) patients to evaluate the disease progression and therapeutic burden about the HLA patterns. Based upon our results, PsA with HLA-B27 (+) had a threat of severe arthritis. PsA with HLA-Cw06 (+) had a higher risk of earlier onset and shorter duration for plaque psoriasis to transform into PsA. HLA-DR7 (+) in PsA delayed the time for conversion from plaque psoriasis into PsA. These findings are quite similar to other studies in the literature

Classification and application of metal-based nanoantioxidants in medicine and healthcare

    No full text
Antioxidants play an important role in the prevention of oxidative stress and have been widely used in medicine and healthcare. However, natural antioxidants have several limitations such as low stability, difficult long-term storage, and high cost of large-scale production. Along with significant advances in nanotechnology, nanomaterials have emerged as a promising solution to improve the limitations of natural antioxidants because of their high stability, easy storage, time effectiveness, and low cost. Among various types of nanomaterials exhibiting antioxidant activity, metal-based nanoantioxidants show excellent reactivity because of the presence of an unpaired electron in their atomic structure. In this review, we summarize some novel metal-based nanoantioxidants and classify them into two main categories, namely chain-breaking and preventive antioxidant nanomaterials. In addition, the applications of antioxidant nanomaterials in medicine and healthcare are also discussed. This review provides a deeper understanding of the mechanisms of metal-based nanoantioxidants and a guideline for using these nanomaterials in medicine and healthcare
