Switzerland: Political data and developments in 2019
The year 2019 was election year in Switzerland. While parliamentary elections in Switzerland are often referred to as secondâorder elections characterized by stability, this year's edition has produced historic changes in the composition of the national Parliament. On the one hand, the âgreen waveâ led to a stark increase in the share of seats held by green parties. On the other, the 2019 elections were labelled âwomen's electionsâ, as the share of elected female members of Parliament increased from 32 per cent to 42 per cent. These electoral results were the climax of a political year dominated by the issues of female representation and climate change
