Tamaricion dalmaticae, a new alliance from the eastern Adriatic

    Get PDF
The paper describes the Tamaricion dalmaticae alliance and the Tamaricetum dalmaticae association, a new syntaxa localized under the saline or sub-halophilous conditions within the thermo-mediterranean and meso-mediterranean belts of the eastern Adriatic coast. The Tamaricion dalmaticae alliance is considered analogous to the Western Mediterranean Tamaricion africanae. The Tamaricetum dalmaticae association shows the high ecological amplitude of in terms of moisture. It develops on sandy soils only periodically inundated with sea or brackish waters, as well as on non-flooded areas in south Croatia, Montenegro and NW Albania. In Croatia, Tamaricetum dalmaticae has connections with the halophyte communities of the Sarcocornietea fruticosae and Ammophiletea classes, and the xerophilous ruderal communities of the Artemisietea vulgaris class. The habitats are exposed to disturbances and fragmentation

Phytosociological study of the vascular plant communities of the lower Neretva delta (southeastern Adriatic)

The Neretva delta (estuary) is an internationally important wetland included in the Ramsar list and is one of the Important Plant Areas (IPA) in Croatia. The paper presents data from phytosociological research collected in the lower Neretva delta in the period 2006-2021. Based on 28 phytosociological relevés, 15 associations and one subassociation were identified and classified into 13 alliances, 12 orders and 11 vegetation classes. The most valuable communities belong to halo-nitrophilous short-lived pioneer vegetation on sand and gravel beaches (Cakiletea maritimae) and salt-marsh herblands and scrub (Therosalicornietea, Salicornietea fruticosae). Anthropogenic impacts on the delta are strong, and the diversity of flora and vegetation is threatened by habitat degradation and loss, unsustainable exploitation of natural resources, and pollution

Three individuals of Prangos trifida (Mill.) Herrnst. & Heyn (Apiaceae) were found in Croatia for the first time in 2013. The population has increased in the last ten years and in 2023, 30 individuals were found. Prangos trifida grows on the small islet of Zmorašnji Opuh (Puh) in the Kornati National Park (Dalmatia) within the vegetation of salt-sprayed rocky cliffs. The taxonomic status, ecology and origin of the species are briefly discussed

The new association Pimpinello lithophilae-Centaureetum lovricii (Crithmo-Staticetea) from the island of Vis (southern Croatia)

This paper presents the new association Pimpinello lithophilae-Centaureetum lovricii, described for the halotolerant vegetation of the order Helichrysetalia italici (Crithmo-Staticetea) on the island of Vis (southern Croatia). The new association replaces the Pimpinello lithophilae-Centaureetum issaeae, originally published invalidly because its name was formed from the invalid taxon name ‘Centaurea issaea Lovrić’

Eleusine tristachya (Lam.) Lam. is for the flora of Croatia a newly discovered species. It was discovered at two localities - (1) Dubci - Brela and (2) Ston on the Pelješac peninsula. E. tristachya is also a new species for the flora of the whole of the Balkan peninsula.Trava Eleusine tristachva (Lam.) Lam., nova je vrsta u hrvatskoj flori, kao i u flori Balkanskog poluotoka. The diatom composition on some Charophyceae taxa was investigated in different freshwater ecosystems in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia and Montenegro during 2007. A total of 91 taxa belonging to 37 genera were identified. The genus Gomphonema with 9 taxa was the most diverse, followed by Navicula (7), Nitzschia, Pinnularia and Gyrosigma (5). The number of taxa at the localities varied from nine in Lake Kalajli on Bjelašnica Mountain to 33 in the Trebižat River (both in Bosnia and Herzegovina). The most frequent taxa (found in more than three localities) were: Amphora ovalis, Cocconeis placentula, Gomphonema coronatum, Melosira varians, Navicula tripunctata, N. radiosa and Ulnaria oxyrhynchus. In total, 52 taxa appeared only in one particular locality.
