Gas trading in Europe:Is the supervision of market abuse keeping up with the TTF's pace of growth?
In this contribution I will look into the Dutch Title Transfer Facility (‘TTF’), thelargest marketplace for gas in Europe. The contribution analyses to what extent thesupervision of market abuse is keeping up with the TTF’s pace of growth. Thereason for this exploration is the current turbulence in the European gas marketdue to the war in Ukraine. This war is one of the causes for the current high gasprices in continental Europe. As an example, prices rose to EUR 340 MW/h on26 August 2022 whilst they were around EUR 20 MW/h in early 2021. Anotherreason for this exploration is that since the inception of REMIT in 2011, which created more attention for potential abuse in energy markets, the gas market has developed into a more financially driven market
