No full textThis thesis is a study of Edward Said's Orientalism. Its purpose is to explain Orientalism as a unique contribution to the debate on the merits and faults of Orientalism. It is written in order to explain the relevance of Orientalism to the discipline of Islamic studies. The point of this thesis is not to criticize or exonerate Orientalism, but to understand its full implications. Orientalism is not the first work to address the topic of Orientalism, but it is unique in its approach and hypotheses. I have therefore focused only on those points which are unique, such as Said's use of Michel Foucault's theories and Joseph Conrad's imagery
