Tsallis statistics generalization of non-equilibrium work relations
We use third constraint formulation of Tsallis statistics and derive the
-statistics generalization of non-equilibrium work relations such as the
Jarzynski equality and the Crooks fluctuation theorem which relate the free
energy differences between two equilibrium states and the work distribution of

Design and prototype of a train-to-wayside communication architecture
Telecommunication has become very important in modern society and seems to be almost omnipresent, making daily life easier, more pleasant and connecting people everywhere. It does not only connect people, but also machines, enhancing the efficiency of automated tasks and monitoring automated processes. In this context the IBBT (Interdisciplinary Institute for BroadBand Technology) project TRACK (TRain Applications over an advanced Communication networK), sets the definition and prototyping of an end-to-end train-to-wayside communication architecture as one of the main research goals. The architecture provides networking capabilities for train monitoring, personnel applications and passenger Internet services. In the context of the project a prototype framework was developed to give a complete functioning demonstrator. Every aspect: tunneling and mobility, performance enhancements, and priority and quality of service were taken into consideration. In contrast to other research in this area, which has given mostly high-level overviews, TRACK resulted in a detailed architecture with all different elements present
The Bregman chord divergence
Distances are fundamental primitives whose choice significantly impacts the
performances of algorithms in machine learning and signal processing. However
selecting the most appropriate distance for a given task is an endeavor.
Instead of testing one by one the entries of an ever-expanding dictionary of
{\em ad hoc} distances, one rather prefers to consider parametric classes of
distances that are exhaustively characterized by axioms derived from first
principles. Bregman divergences are such a class. However fine-tuning a Bregman
divergence is delicate since it requires to smoothly adjust a functional
generator. In this work, we propose an extension of Bregman divergences called
the Bregman chord divergences. This new class of distances does not require
gradient calculations, uses two scalar parameters that can be easily tailored
in applications, and generalizes asymptotically Bregman divergences.Comment: 10 page
Regularization as quantization in reducible representations of CCR
A covariant quantization scheme employing reducible representations of
canonical commutation relations with positive-definite metric and Hermitian
four-potentials is tested on the example of quantum electrodynamic fields
produced by a classical current. The scheme implies a modified but very
physically looking Hamiltonian. We solve Heisenberg equations of motion and
compute photon statistics. Poisson statistics naturally occurs and no infrared
divergence is found even for pointlike sources. Classical fields produced by
classical sources can be obtained if one computes coherent-state averages of
Heisenberg-picture operators. It is shown that the new form of representation
automatically smears out pointlike currents. We discuss in detail Poincar\'e
covariance of the theory and the role of Bogoliubov transformations for the
issue of gauge invariance. The representation we employ is parametrized by a
number that is related to R\'enyi's . It is shown that the ``Shannon
limit" plays here a role of correspondence principle with the

Crystallization of authigenic carbonates in mud volcanoes at Lake Baikal
This paper presents data on authigenic siderite first found in surface sediments from mud volcanoes in the Central (K-2) and Southern (Malen’kii) basins of Lake Baikal. Ca is the predominant cation, which substitutes Fe in the crystalline lattice of siderite. The enrichment of the carbonates in the 13C isotope (from +3.3 to +6.8‰ for the Malen’kii volcano and from +17.7 to +21.9‰ for K-2) results from the crystallization of the carbonates during methane generation via the bacterial destruction of organic matter (acetate). The overall depletion of the carbonates in 18O is mainly inherited from the isotopic composition of Baikal water
Symptoms associated with victimization in patients with schizophrenia and related disorders
Background: Patients with psychoses have an increased risk of becoming victims of violence. Previous studies have suggested that higher symptom levels are associated with a raised risk of becoming a victim of physical violence. There has been, however, no evidence on the type of symptoms that are linked with an increased risk of recent victimization. Methods: Data was taken from two studies on involuntarily admitted patients, one national study in England and an international one in six other European countries. In the week following admission, trained interviewers asked patients whether they had been victims of physical violence in the year prior to admission, and assessed symptoms on the Brief Psychiatric Rating Scale (BPRS). Only patients with a diagnosis of schizophrenia or related disorders (ICD-10 F20–29) were included in the analysis which was conducted separately for the two samples. Symptom levels assessed on the BPRS subscales were tested as predictors of victimization. Univariable and multivariable logistic regression models were fitted to estimate adjusted odds ratios. Results: Data from 383 patients in the English sample and 543 patients in the European sample was analysed. Rates of victimization were 37.8% and 28.0% respectively. In multivariable models, the BPRS manic subscale was significantly associated with victimization in both samples. Conclusions: Higher levels of manic symptoms indicate a raised risk of being a victim of violence in involuntary patients with schizophrenia and related disorders. This might be explained by higher activity levels, impaired judgement or poorer self-control in patients with manic symptoms. Such symptoms should be specifically considered in risk assessments

The Primary Energy Dependence of Backscattered Electron Images Up to 100 keV
The backscattered electron coefficient is known to be primarily dependent on the atomic number of the sample. If the atomic number increases, the backscattered electron coefficient increases, which results in a higher intensity in the backscattered electron image. The dependence of the primary electron energy is somewhat more complicated. Using photographic material (with composition AgBr-AgI), it is seen that the contrast in the backscattered electron image increases with the primary electron energy. Using three independent methods, based on image analysis techniques, it is shown that the difference between the backscattered electron coefficient of AgBr and AgI increases with the primary electron energy in the range from 40 to 100 keV
