Rural economy is not strictly related to agriculture, but also includes the so-called non-agricultural income genereting activities in rural areas.. Rural areas in Serbia are characterised by spatial-geographic diversification, socio-economic devastation and relatively good ecological, cultural and historical preservation. Thus, the concept of sustainable development imposes itself as an imperative in strategic planning and is in line with the increasing demands for the development of rural tourism, because it is rural tourism provides opportunities and has the capability to connect a larger number of economic activities in rural areas. The concept of rural tourism cover two complex because it touches upon two important economic sectors: agriculture and tourism. The key question for the Republic of Serbia is determining the “gap” between the current situation and the desired objective. To this end, the paper approaches the complex problem through phases. The first step shows theoretical and methodological approach to the concept of multifunctional agriculture. Later on, the concept of rural tourism is explained with a review of the current situation, and in the end complementarity within the development of rural tourism (between agriculture and tourism) is indicated as well as the significance it would have on initiating the overall economic activities in rural areas. Expectations, based on particular countries’ experiences in the European Union, are that the application of the model of multifunctional agriculture and within it the implementation of rural tourism in areas that possess the necessary conditions, could reinforce the overall economic activities and contribute to ending the current negative trends. The state with its institutional mechanisms and development policy should play an important role in this process

For the reason of constant need for rising food production which are determinate with a large number of famine all over the world, it was intensively developed technique and technology in agricultural production which based on unnatural synthetic materials, where belong mineral fertilizers, pesticides, factors which stimulate rise, hormones, etc., also which contributed that outputs have large rise. However, uncontrolled process of using agrochemical substances, process of intensive using hard agricultural mechanization, and also process of pollution, resulted that we have problems with environment. Organic farming has developed from that reason as a result on ecological degradation and jeopardizing human population. This paper work tries to show importance of organic farming production, but also look towards importance of marketing in organic farming production of food and way how to sell it on the market

To make the irrigation system successfully upgraded, the project needs to undergo a comprehensive analysis of the factors that lead to the modernization. Using the IPTRID/FAO-AGLW methodological approach of addressing causes for irrigation modernization, the authors in the paper review technical, socio-institutional, economic-financial and environmental causes for upgrading of the irrigation system in the Negotin lowland and give some recommendations for successful realization of this project, based on international and regional experiences and adjusted to specificities of local agriculture and rural communities

Serbia has extraordinary conditions for considerably bigger herbal and livestock organic production. The constant growth of the demand for the organic products in the world points to the fact that this method of production can be extremely profitable if natural resources, knowledge and productive experience are used in the right way. Most of natural meadows and pastures in Serbia are situated in hilly and mountainous areas. Agricultural activities were extinguished due to the depopulation trend. Therefore the development of intensive production wasn’t achieved. The aim of this paper is to point out the possibility and perspective of livestock development, according to the existing conditions, and the necessity of realization of planned investment programs on the state level. Also, its aim is to underline the possibility of development of organic production in rural areas. Considering the preservation of nature and existing economic aspect, there are possibilities for organic production of meat, milk and dairies. The results of statistic data of livestock fund are also presented in this paper, as well as percentile share of meadow and pasture participation in total usage of agricultural areas in the counties of the Republic of Serbia. The Law of organic production and related regulations were adopted by the state and subsidies for the production of this type were given as well. The result was that first producers were converted to this kind of agricultural production. Also, the analyzed state of organic livestock production in the world and Europe (EU) points to the institutional and natural conditions for the organic development in Serbia, and to the basic recommendations for its development

The climate is the result of work done by complex climatic systems and it affects the overall development of agriculture and society of a certain area. Climatic elements possess natural variability which can be found out in two ways: directly, using the meteorological measurements and indirectly, applying some other methods. Agricultural production of a certain area largely depends on its productive capability and the way of being used. The mere facts that the tissue of all living forms on Earth consists of 50 – 80 % of water and that all vital activities are done in the interiority of a living organism, speaks enough about the importance of water as a natural source of life. Regarding this, this paper analyses climatic parameters, pedological characteristics and water potentials in the function of evaluation of the specificity of this agricultural area concerning these characteristics and their influence on agriculture. Using the available data of “Tamis” Institute, The Republic Hydrometeorological Service, Statistical Office of the Republic of Serbia, and the internal data of the municipality of Pancevo, the general conclusion is that this area is characterized by favourable climatic parameters , quality soil of high productive capability and quite favourable water resources. The conditions are favourable for an intensive and profitable agricultural production; therefore, the development of this area should be directed towards intensifying agricultural production by introducing complex agrotechnical and hydromeliorative measures

Over the last few decades cattle stock has been greatly reduced and therefore the production of all kinds of meat has been reduced as well, as a result of those changes. This work shows, based on the data of the Republic Bureau of Statistics, the results of cattle stock and total meat production variability in Serbia for the period from 2000 to 2009. In 2009 the production of all kinds of meat was 457.000 tons which was 1,5% less than in 2008 and 3,4% less than in 2000. However, in 2009 the production of beef was 1% higher than in 2008, as well as the production of mutton and lamb – 8,7% and the production of poultrymeat – 5,3% higher than in 2008. The biggest fall – 5,3% was recorded in the production of pork. If compared to the production in 2000, the production of mutton and lamb was 31,6% higher, the production of poultrymeat was 19,4% higher, while the production of beef was 2,9% less and the production of pork was 11% less. Thanks to the Government of the Republic of Serbia measures for stimulating cattle breeding, cattle breeding has slowly been taking the place that it deserves in the economy again
