Specific-heat study for ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic phases in SrRu_{1-x}Mn_xO3
Low-temperature electronic states in SrRu_{1-x}Mn_xO_3 for x <= 0.6 have been
investigated by means of specific-heat C_p measurements. We have found that a
jump anomaly observed in C_p at the ferromagnetic (FM) transition temperature
for SrRuO_3 changes into a broad peak by only 5% substitution of Mn for Ru.
With further doping Mn, the low-temperature electronic specific-heat
coefficient gamma is markedly reduced from the value at x=0 (33 mJ/K^2 mol), in
connection with the suppression of the FM phase as well as the enhancement of
the resistivity. For x >= 0.4, gamma approaches to ~ 5 mJ/K^2 mol or less,
where the antiferromagnetic order with an insulating feature in resistivity is
generated. We suggest from these results that both disorder and reconstruction
of the electronic states induced by doping Mn are coupled with the magnetic

Specific heat of the spin-dimer antiferromagnet BaMnO in high magnetic fields
We have measured the specific heat of the coupled spin-dimer antiferromagnet
BaMnO to 50 mK in temperature and to 29 T in the magnetic field.
The experiment extends to the midpoint of the field region (25.9 T 32.3 T) of the magnetization plateau at 1/2 of the saturation
magnetization, and reveals the presence of three ordered phases in the field
region between that of the magnetization plateau and the low-field spin-liquid
region. The exponent of the phase boundary with the thermally disordered region
is smaller than the theoretical value based on the Bose-Einstein condensation
of spin triplets. At zero field and 29 T, the specific-heat data show gapped
behaviors characteristic of spin liquids. The zero-field data indicate that the
gapped triplet excitations form two levels whose energies differ by nearly a
factor of two. At least the lower level is well localized. The data at 29 T
reveal that the low-lying excitations at the magnetization plateau are weakly

Effects of Randomness on the Field-Induced Phase Transition in the S=1 Bond-Alternating Spin Chain NTENP
We report novel effects of randomness in the S=1 bond-alternating
antiferromagnetic chain compound with a dimer-singlet ground state
[Ni(N,N'-bis(3-aminopropyl)propane-1,3-diamine(mu-NO2]ClO4 abbreviated as
NTENP. The 15N NMR spectra develop a continuum with sharply peaked edges at low
temperatures, indicating an inhomogeneous staggered magnetization induced by
magnetic field. We attribute this to random anisotropic interactions due to
disorder of NO2 groups in the chains. The field-induced antiferromagnetic
transition exhibits remarkably anisotropic behavior. We propose that a
field-induced incoherent magnetization is transformed into a coherent

Magnetization Process of Kagome-Lattice Heisenberg Antiferromagnet
The magnetization process of the isotropic Heisenberg antiferromagnet on the
kagome lattice is studied. Data obtained from the numerical-diagonalization
method are reexamined from the viewpoint of the derivative of the magnetization
with respect to the magnetic field. We find that the behavior of the derivative
at approximately one-third of the height of the magnetization saturation is
markedly different from that for the cases of typical magnetization plateaux.
The magnetization process of the kagome-lattice antiferromagnet reveals a new

Thermodynamic properties of a tetramer
ferro-ferro-antiferro-antiferromagnetic Ising-Heisenberg bond alternating chain
are investigated by the use of an exact mapping transformation technique. Exact
results for the magnetization, susceptibility and specific heat in the zero as
well as nonzero magnetic field are presented and discussed in detail. The
results obtained from the mapping are compared with the relevant experimental

Chandra detection of extended X-ray emission from the recurrent nova RS Ophiuchi
Radio, infrared, and optical observations of the 2006 eruption of the
symbiotic recurrent nova RS Ophiuchi (RS Oph) showed that the explosion
produced non-spherical ejecta. Some of this ejected material was in the form of
bipolar jets to the east and west of the central source. Here we describe Xray
observations taken with the Chandra X-ray Observatory one and a half years
after the beginning of the outburst that reveal narrow, extended structure with
a position angle of approximately 300 degrees (east of north). Although the
orientation of the extended feature in the X-ray image is consistent with the
readout direction of the CCD detector, extensive testing suggests that the
feature is not an artifact. Assuming it is not an instrumental effect, the
extended X-ray structure shows hot plasma stretching more than 1,900 AU from
the central binary (taking a distance of 1.6 kpc). The X-ray emission is
elongated in the northwest direction - in line with the extended infrared
emission and some minor features in the published radio image. It is less
consistent with the orientation of the radio jets and the main bipolar optical
structure. Most of the photons in the extended X-ray structure have energies of
less than 0.8 keV. If the extended X-ray feature was produced when the nova
explosion occurred, then its 1".2 length as of 2007 August implies that it
expanded at an average rate of more than 2 mas/d, which corresponds to a flow
speed of greater than 6,000 km/s (d/1.6 kpc) in the plane of the sky. This
expansion rate is similar to the earliest measured expansion rates for the
