Internationalization is one of the core priorities for achieving international excellence in education.  However, internationalization aspect of higher education is becoming increasingly important yet challenging. The study determined the degree of importance and degree of implementation of internationalization of higher education institutions in the Asian countries as basis of a framework. This study further determined the perceived effects of internationalization and barriers in the implementation. This descriptive study was conducted among 92 Higher Education Institutions in Asia. Of the 92 participating higher education institutions, 72 were from the Philippines and 13 were from other Asian countries. The 54.5% of the respondents were the school heads and administrators and 45.5% were faculty and staff representing their respective institutions. Questionnaires were used as the main data gathering tool with open-ended questions to determine the experiences and barriers of the implementation of internationalization. Using descriptive statistical tools and content analysis, the study revealed that the importance of internationalization was perceived as moderate, however, the degree of implementation of internationalization was low among higher education institutions in the Asian countries.  Learning other culture, increasing international students’ enrolment, exposing students to research, and having international linkages were some of the positive effects of internationalization. However, lack of training in cultural sensitivity, communication barriers, understanding of other culture, and funding were the barriers identified in the implementation of internationalization. Based on these results, an internationalization framework was developed

Evaluation of Strategic Planning in HEIs Using Contex, Input, Process, Product (CIPP) Model: Basis for an Enhanced Model

This study aimed to evaluate and improve the prevailing strategic planning process of selected Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) using the Context, Input, Process and Product (CIPP) by Daniel L. Stufflebeam in 1966. The study utilized quantitative techniques with 644 respondents composed of administrators, associates and assistants in administration, faculty and staff of selected higher education institutions (HEIs). Six HEIs were selected to represent each type of institution under the vertical typology of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), namely: autonomous, deregulated, and regulated. In each category, two were selected to represent the group of HEIs they belong: two HEIs which were granted Autonomous Status, two HEIs that were given Deregulated Status, and two HEIs with Regulated Status. The geographical location was considered in choosing the HEIs. The evaluation results emphasize that the performance and degree of implementation of both autonomous and deregulated status are of the same range in most of the aspects that were subjected to evaluation. It is suggesting that deregulated HEIs performance is leaning towards being autonomous than of being at the lower end of the scale, except for financial capability where the capacities of deregulated HEIs is closer that of regulated HEIs. Further results revealed that universities and colleges differ in the degree of implementation on the monitoring of finance. Based on the results, a proposed program to enhance strategic planning process model was developed

Capability and Quality of Products in Relation to Sustainability: A Model for a Sustainable Subcontract Electronics Manufacturing Companies

The study aimed to determine the relationship of capability and quality of products in relation to sustainability of subcontract electronics manufacturing companies in the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam. The respondents’ profile such as plant location and years of operations were considered as moderator variables. Data from 46 subcontract electronics manufacturing companies were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics.  Furthermore, bootstrapping procedure was used due to the limited number of electronics subcontract manufacturing companies who participated in this study. The study shows that the subcontract electronics manufacturing companies were all capable in terms of the control processes and packages classification; and highly capable in terms of production capacity. The quality of products in terms of goods and services was all perceived to be good.  Company respondents were perceived to be high in economic and social sustainability and very high in terms of environmental sustainability.  Further results revealed that packaging, production capacity, consumer specification, and reliability testing are significant predictors of the economic sustainability. It also shows that control processes, reliability testing, and inspection and quality were significant predictors of social sustainability. Customer specification and reliability testing are significant predictors of environmental sustainability.  Overall, the result showed that production capacity, consumer specification, and inspection and quality are the significant predictors of the sustainability.  CAPAQUALISUS model for sustainable subcontract electronics manufacturing companies was developed from this study

Dehumidification Efficiency (DHE) of the Automated Multi Commodity Heat Pump Dryer (AMCHPD)

The inside condition of the drying air (% relative humidity) in a drying process is a crucial parameter to consider during the dehydration of commodities but this is often neglected yielding to food losses. The study identified the dehumidification efficiency of the Automated Multi Commodity Heat Pump Dryer (AMCHPD) in terms of the percent Relative humidity, ambient (RHa) and Relative humidity, desired (RHd). The AMCHPD was set to drying process using 5 selected fruits and vegetables, namely: mango, pineapple, moringa, saluyot and ube, respectively. From each drying process, the RHa and RHd were recorded in a database using a Raspberry pi. Average RHa and RHd were calculated using MS Excel. The % DHE was calculated using the formula: . Research findings revealed that the average RHa using the 5 commodities is 80.0% and the average RHd is 18.0% yielding to a 77.5% DHE. This means that the % RHd required to extract the initial moisture content of the commodities dehydrated is within the standard which is > or = to 18.0% and the calculated % DHE falls within the standard simulated in a convective drying method. Thus, the assembly of the major components of the AMCHPD was appropriate such that the operating conditions of the drying system are ideal

Correlates of Internationalization of Higher Education Institutions in the Philippines

Internationalization is currently the priority of higher education institutions (HEIs) in the Philippines and in many countries worldwide. Internationalization contributes to the development of the academic programs of HEIs. This research aimed to determine the factors that influence the internationalization of HEIs in the Philippines. The articulated institutional commitment, administrative structure and staffing, curriculum and learning outcomes, faculty policies and practices, student mobility, and collaboration partnerships were the predictor variables and internationalization as a criterion variable. An online survey questionnaire was used to gather the information that addressed the objectives of the study and was distributed to the HEIs in the Philippines. Three hundred forty-three faculty from 97 HEIs answered the questionnaires. The respondents were from autonomous (25.4%), deregulated (11.7%), and regulated (63%) HEIs. The articulated institutional commitment, administrative structure and staffing, curriculum and learning outcomes, faculty policies and practices, student mobility, and collaboration partnerships were highly evident and were found to be significantly correlated to the implementation of internationalization of HEIs in the Philippines. The results further revealed a moderate implementation of internationalization among HEIs in the Philippines. The regression analysis revealed that faculty policies and practices were the sole predictors of internationalization, with 18% variance accounted for. Having standard policies and guidelines, creating an internationalization awareness program, and administrative support are some recommendations based on the results to strengthen the internationalization programs of HEIs in the Philippines.
