    Non-monotonic behavior of the Binder Parameter in the discrete spin systems

    We study a non-monotonic behavior of the Binder parameter, which appears in the discrete spin systems. Using the Fortuin-Kasteleyn graph representation, we find that the improved estimator of the Binder parameter consists of two terms with values only in high- and low-temperature regions. The non-monotonic behavior is found to originate from the low-temperature term. With the appropriately defined order parameter, we can reduce the influence of the low-temperature term, and as a result, the non-monotonic behavior can also be reduced. We propose new definitions of the order parameter, which reduces or eliminates the non-monotonic behavior of the Binder parameter in a system for which the improved estimator of the Binder parameter is unknown.Comment: 23 pages, 12 figures, added new result

    Update of HΦ\mathcal{H}\Phi: Newly added functions and methods in versions 2 and 3

    HΦ\mathcal{H}\Phi [aitchaitch-phiphi] is an open-source software package of numerically exact and stochastic calculations for a wide range of quantum many-body systems. In this paper, we present the newly added functions and the implemented methods in vers. 2 and 3. In ver. 2, we implement spectrum calculations by the shifted Krylov method, and low-energy excited state calculations by the locally optimal blocking preconditioned conjugate gradient (LOBPCG) method. In ver. 3, we implement the full diagonalization method using ScaLAPACK and GPGPU computing via MAGMA. We also implement a real-time evolution method and the canonical thermal pure quantum (cTPQ) state method for finite-temperature calculations. The Wannier90 format for specifying the Hamiltonians is also implemented. Using the Wannier90 format, it is possible to perform the calculations for the abab initioinitio low-energy effective Hamiltonians of solids obtained by the open-source software RESPACK. We also update Standard mode \unicode{x2014}simplified input format in HΦ\mathcal{H}\Phi\unicode{x2014} to use these functions and methods.     Superconductivity of the Sr2Ca12Cu24O41Sr_2 Ca_{12} Cu_{24} O_{41} spin ladder system: Are the superconducting pairing and the spin-gap formation of the same origin?

    Pressure-induced superconductivity in a spin-ladder cuprate Sr2_2Ca12_{12}Cu24_{24}O41_{41} has not been studied on a microscopic level so far although the superconductivity was already discovered in 1996. We have improved high-pressure technique with using a large high-quality crystal, and succeeded in studying the superconductivity using 63^{63}Cu nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR). We found that anomalous metallic state reflecting the spin-ladder structure is realized and the superconductivity possesses a s-wavelike character in the meaning that a finite gap exists in the quasi-particle excitation: At pressure of 3.5GPa we observed two excitation modes in the normal state from the relaxation rate T11T_1^{-1}. One gives rise to an activation-type component in T11T_1^{-1}, and the other TT-linear component linking directly with the superconductivity. This gapless mode likely arises from free motion of holon-spinon bound states appearing by hole doping, and the pairing of them likely causes the superconductivity.Comment: to be published in Phys.     Kω — Open-source library for the shifted Krylov subspace method of the form (zI−H)x=b

    We develop Kω, an open-source linear algebra library for the shifted Krylov subspace methods. The methods solve a set of shifted linear equations (zkI−H)x(k)=b(k=0,1,2,…) for a given matrix H and a vector b, simultaneously. The leading order of the operational cost is the same as that for a single equation. The shift invariance of the Krylov subspace is the mathematical foundation of the shifted Krylov subspace methods. Applications in materials science are presented to demonstrate the advantages of the algorithm over the standard Krylov subspace methods such as the Lanczos method. We introduce benchmark calculations of (i) an excited (optical) spectrum and (ii) intermediate eigenvalues by the contour integral on the complex plane. In combination with the quantum lattice solver HΦ, Kω can realize parallel computation of excitation spectra and intermediate eigenvalues for various quantum lattice models

    EGUIDE project and treatment guidelines

    Background Clinical practice guidelines for schizophrenia and major depressive disorder have been published. However, these have not had sufficient penetration in clinical settings. We developed the Effectiveness of Guidelines for Dissemination and Education in Psychiatric Treatment (EGUIDE) project as a dissemination and education programme for psychiatrists. Aims The aim of this study is to assess the effectiveness of the EGUIDE project on the subjective clinical behaviour of psychiatrists in accordance with clinical practice guidelines before and 1 and 2 years after participation in the programmes. Method A total of 607 psychiatrists participated in this study during October 2016 and March 2019. They attended both 1-day educational programmes based on the clinical practice guidelines for schizophrenia and major depressive disorder, and answered web questionnaires about their clinical behaviours before and 1 and 2 years after attending the programmes. We evaluated the changes in clinical behaviours in accordance with the clinical practice guidelines between before and 2 years after the programme. Results All of the scores for clinical behaviours in accordance with clinical practice guidelines were significantly improved after 1 and 2 years compared with before attending the programmes. There were no significant changes in any of the scores between 1 and 2 years after attending. Conclusions All clinical behaviours in accordance with clinical practice guidelines improved after attending the EGUIDE programme, and were maintained for at least 2 years. The EGUIDE project could contribute to improved guideline-based clinical behaviour among psychiatrists

    Response of the Cutworm Spodoptera litura to Sesame Leaves or Crude Extracts in Diet

    The effects of extracts of sesame, Sesamum indicum L. (Liamiales: Pedaliaceae), and whole leaves of some selected cultivars of sesame were tested using a natural host Spodoptera litura (F.) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae). Indices taken using the immature stages include; diet utilization, growth and development and induction of detoxification enzymes. The results indicate that S. litura generally selects its food amongst cultivars within 6 hours after food presentation. Growth and development of the insect is controlled also by plant acceptability and quality. Although all the cultivars tested significantly limit insect growth and development the variety 56S-radiatum did not allow a complete life cycle as pupation from first instar stage was 0%. Generally the crucial period for immature S. litura was the larval period, especially the first two instars where the weight of an insect fed on an experimental diet was three times lower than that of a control diet. The larval developmental period was greater than 40 days as compared to 17 days for insects fed a control diet. S. litura also had lowered efficiency in utilizing ingested food, from a low of 13% in a sesame cultivar to 45% in the control diet. The key detoxification enzyme was a glutathione s-transferase that was confirmed by a 6-fold increase between S. litura fed a plant cultivar vs. a control diet towards the substrate 1,2-dichloro-4-nitrobenzene. First and second instars of S. litura have a relatively reduced detoxification of enzymes in response to plant cultivar diets leading to low survival. A 3% v/w crude extract of the cultivars increased enzyme induction towards all the tested substrates
