Braided Statistics from Abelian Twist in -Minkowski Spacetime
-deformed commutation relation between quantum operators is
constructed via abelian twist deformation in -Minkowski spacetime. The
commutation relation is written in terms of universal -matrix satisfying
braided statistics. The equal-time commutator function turns out to vanish in

Helices at Interfaces
Helically coiled filaments are a frequent motif in nature. In situations
commonly encountered in experiments coiled helices are squeezed flat onto two
dimensional surfaces. Under such 2-D confinement helices form "squeelices" -
peculiar squeezed conformations often resembling looped waves, spirals or
circles. Using theory and Monte-Carlo simulations we illuminate here the
mechanics and the unusual statistical mechanics of confined helices and show
that their fluctuations can be understood in terms of moving and interacting
discrete particle-like entities - the "twist-kinks". We show that confined
filaments can thermally switch between discrete topological twist quantized
states, with some of the states exhibiting dramatically enhanced
circularization probability while others displaying surprising
hyperflexibility
Differences in hearing acuity among “normal-hearing” young adults modulate the neural basis for speech comprehension
AbstractIn this paper, we investigate how subtle differences in hearing acuity affect the neural systems supporting speech processing in young adults. Auditory sentence comprehension requires perceiving a complex acoustic signal and performing linguistic operations to extract the correct meaning. We used functional MRI to monitor human brain activity while adults aged 18–41 years listened to spoken sentences. The sentences varied in their level of syntactic processing demands, containing either a subject-relative or object-relative center-embedded clause. All participants self-reported normal hearing, confirmed by audiometric testing, with some variation within a clinically normal range. We found that participants showed activity related to sentence processing in a left-lateralized frontotemporal network. Although accuracy was generally high, participants still made some errors, which were associated with increased activity in bilateral cingulo-opercular and frontoparietal attention networks. A whole-brain regression analysis revealed that activity in a right anterior middle frontal gyrus (aMFG) component of the frontoparietal attention network was related to individual differences in hearing acuity, such that listeners with poorer hearing showed greater recruitment of this region when successfully understanding a sentence. The activity in right aMFGs for listeners with poor hearing did not differ as a function of sentence type, suggesting a general mechanism that is independent of linguistic processing demands. Our results suggest that even modest variations in hearing ability impact the systems supporting auditory speech comprehension, and that auditory sentence comprehension entails the coordination of a left perisylvian network that is sensitive to linguistic variation with an executive attention network that responds to acoustic challenge.</jats:p
Localized tachyon condensation and G-parity conservation
We study the condensation of localized tachyon in non-supersymmetric orbifold
{\C^2/\Z_n}. We first show that the G-parities of chiral primaries are
preserved under the condensation of localized tachyon(CLT) given by the chiral
primaries. Using this, we finalize the proof of the conjecture that the
lowest-tachyon-mass-squared increases under CLT at the level of type II string
with full consideration of GSO projection. We also show the equivalence between
the -parity given by coming from partition function
and that given by coming from the monomial

Magnetic interaction induced by the anomaly in kaon-photoproductions
We study the role of magnetic interaction in the photoproduction of the kaon
and hyperon. We find that the inclusion of a higher order diagram induced by
the Wess-Zumio-Witten term has a significant contribution to the magnetic
amplitude, which is compatible to the observed photon asymmetry in the forward
angle region. This enables us to use the K^* coupling constants which have been
determined in a microscopic way rather than the phenomenological ones which
differ largely from the microscopic ones.Comment: 8 pages, 3 figure
Meeting report: International symposium on the genetics of aging and life history II
The second International Symposium on the Genetics of Aging and Life History was held at the campus of Daegu Gyeongbuk Institute of Science and Technology (DGIST), Daegu, South Korea, from May 14 to 16, 2014. Many leading scientists in the field of aging research from all over the world contributed to the symposium by attending and presenting their recent work and thoughts. The aim of the symposium was to stimulate international collaborations and interactions among scientists who work on the biology of aging. In the symposium, the most recent and exciting work on aging research was presented, covering a wide range of topics, including the genetics of aging, age-associated diseases, and cellular senescence. The work was conducted in various organisms, including C. elegans, mice, plants, and humans. Topics covered in the symposium stimulated discussion of novel directions for future research on aging. The meeting ended with a commitment for the third International Symposium on the Genetics of Aging and Life History, which will be held in 2016. © Artan et al11sciescopu
