On Witten's Instability and Winding Tachyons
We investigate, from a spacetime perspective, some aspects of Horowitz's
recent conjecture that black strings may catalyze the decay of Kaluza-Klein
spacetimes into a bubble of nothing. We identify classical configurations that
interpolate between flat space and the bubble, and discuss the energetics of
the transition. We investigate the effects of winding tachyons on the size and
shape of the barrier and find no evidence at large compactification radius that
tachyons enhance the tunneling rate. For the interesting radii, of order the
string scale, the question is difficult to answer due to the failure of the
expansion.Comment: 15 pages, 2 figures, Late
ABJM with Flavors and FQHE
We add fundamental matters to the N=6 Chern-Simons theory (ABJM theory), and
show that D6-branes wrapped over AdS_4 x S^3/Z_2 in type IIA superstring theory
on AdS_4 x CP^3 give its dual description with N=3 supersymmetry. We confirm
this by the arguments based on R-symmetry, supersymmetry, and brane
configuration of ABJM theory. We also analyze the fluctuations of the D6-brane
and compute the conformal dimensions of dual operators. In the presence of
fractional branes, the ABJM theory can model the fractional quantum Hall effect
(FQHE), with RR-fields regarded as the external electric-magnetic field. We
show that an addition of the flavor D6-brane describes a class of fractional
quantum Hall plateau transition.Comment: 23 pages, Latex, no figures; (v2) references added, typos correcte

The high-lying Li levels at excitation energy around 21 MeV
The H+He cluster structure in Li was investigated by the
H(,H He)n kinematically complete experiment at the incident
energy = 67.2 MeV. We have observed two resonances at =
21.30 and 21.90 MeV which are consistent with the He(H, )Li
analysis in the Ajzenberg-Selove compilation. Our data are compared with the
previous experimental data and the RGM and CSRGM calculations.Comment: 12 pages, 6 figures. Accepted for publication in J. Phys. Soc. Jp
Exact 4-point Scattering Amplitude of the Superconformal Schrodinger Chern-Simons Theory
We consider the non-relativistic superconformal U(N) X U(N) Chern-Simons
theory with level (k,-k) possessing fourteen supersymmetries. We obtain an
exact four-point scattering amplitude of the theory to all orders in 1/N and
1/k and prove that the scattering amplitude becomes trivial when k=1 and 2. We
confirm this amplitude to one-loop order by using an explicit field theoretic
computation and show that the beta function for the contact interaction
vanishes to the one-loop order, which is consistent with the quantum conformal
invariance of the underlying theory.Comment: 16 page
Complete Set of Polarization Transfer Observables for the Reaction at 296 MeV and 0
A complete set of polarization transfer observables has been measured for the
reaction at and . The total spin transfer and the observable
deduced from the measured polarization transfer observables indicate that
the spin--dipole resonance at has greater
strength than strength, which is consistent with recent experimental and
theoretical studies. The results also indicate a predominance of the spin-flip
and unnatural-parity transition strength in the continuum. The exchange tensor
interaction at a large momentum transfer of is
discussed.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figure
Transition density of diffusion on Sierpinski gasket and extension of Flory's formula
Some problems related to the transition density u(t,x) of the diffusion on
the Sierpinski gasket are considerd, based on recent rigorous results and
detailed numerical calculations. The main contents are an extension of Flory's
formula for the end-to-end distance exponent of self-avoiding walks on the
fractal spaces, and an evidence of the oscillatory behavior of u(t,x) on the
Sierpinski gasket.Comment: 11 pages, REVTEX, 2 postscript figure
