    Method of producing nickel electrode

    Get PDF
A large capacity nickel electrode is provided in which the charging efficiency and discharge utilization coefficient are improved in comparison to nickel electrodes which are produced by the conventional method. Nickel electrodes retaining nickel active material or nickel active material and cobalt compounds on a porous nickel substrate are immersed in a cobalt sulfate aqueous solution whose pH is adjusted in the range of 3.5 to 6.0, followed by crystallization of the hydroxide or oxide by pyrolysis or immersion in alkali, thereby coating the surface of the nickel active material with cobalt crystals and simultaneously promoting alloying of the nickel-cobalt

Gravitational Radiation from a Naked Singularity -- Odd-Parity Perturbation --

    Get PDF
It has been suggested that a naked singularity may be a good candidate for a strong gravitational wave burster. The naked singularity occurs in the generic collapse of an inhomogeneous dust ball. We study odd-parity mode of gravitational waves from a naked singularity of the Lema\^{\i}tre-Tolman-Bondi space-time. The wave equation for gravitational waves are solved by numerical integration using the single null coordinate. The result is that the naked singularity is not a strong source of the odd-parity gravitational radiation although the metric perturbation grows in the central region. Therefore, the Cauchy horizon in this space-time would be marginally stable against odd-parity perturbations.Comment: 14 pages, 7 figures, to be published in Prog. Theor. Phys. GAME THEORY ANALYSIS OF COMPETITION FOR GROUNDWATER INVOLVING EL PASO, TEXAS AND CIUDAD JUAREZ, MEXICO

We examine the potential gains from cooperation in the withdrawal of water from the Hueco Bolson aquifer that provides municipal water supply for El Paso, Texas and Ciudad Juarez, Mexico. The aquifer lies beneath the international border, and both cities operate independently regarding pumping rates and withdrawals. We estimate the gains by comparing four scenarios in a dynamic setting: 1) a status quo scenario in which both cities continue extracting groundwater as they are at present, 2) a Nash non-cooperative game scenario, 3) a Nash bargaining scenario, and 4) a scenario that involves maximizing the sum of net benefits in both cities. All scenarios, including the non-cooperative game, provide a longer useful life of the Hueco Bolson aquifer than does the status quo. In the Nash bargaining scenario, both cities gain from cooperation and the sum of net benefits approaches the maximum that can be obtained by maximizing that value explicitly.Resource /Energy Economics and Policy,

Solving nonlinear parabolic problems with result verification. Part I: one-space dimensional case

    Get PDF
AbstractWe propose some numerical methods for the automatic proof of existence of weak solutions for parabolic initial boundary value problems with one space dimension. It also means that one can obtain a posteriori error bounds for the approximate solutions of the problems. Based upon Schauder's fixed-point theorem, a verification condition is formulated and, by the use of finite-element approximation and its error estimates for a simple parabolic problem, we present a numerical verification algorithm of exact solutions in a computer. Some numerical examples which are verified by the method are illustrated

Gravitational Radiation from a Naked Singularity. II - Even-Parity Perturbation -

A naked singularity occurs in the generic collapse of an inhomogeneous dust ball. We study the even-parity mode of gravitational waves from a naked singularity of the Lema\^{\i}tre-Tolman-Bondi spacetime. The wave equations for gravitational waves are solved by numerical integration using the single null coordinate. The result implies that the metric perturbation grows when it approaches the Cauchy horizon and diverges there, although the naked singularity is not a strong source of even-parity gravitational radiation. Therefore, the Cauchy horizon in this spacetime should be unstable with respect to linear even-parity perturbations.Comment: 16 pages, 5 figures, errors and typos corrected, final versio
