Paradoxical increase in the PPG amplitude
Background : Although an increase in sympathetic nerve activity is generally associated with a decrease in the photoplethysmography (PPG) amplitude, the present case study demonstrates that nociceptive stimuli, such as tracheal intubation, paradoxically induce an increase in PPG amplitude. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study to capture an increase in the PPG amplitude in response to sympathetic nerve activation. Case presentation : A 73-year-old woman underwent open surgery. Following anesthesia induction, tracheal intubation was performed, which resulted in increased heart rate and raised blood pressure. While nociception usually decreases the PPG amplitude, the opposite was found. Conversely, the vascular stiffness K value, our research group’s unique monitoring method to quantify the strength of sympathetic activity, increased reflecting increased peripheral vascular resistance. Conclusions : We report a paradoxical case of increased PPG amplitude following tracheal intubation. It is important to note that the PPG amplitude does not always decrease with nociceptive stimuli
Development of a low-alpha-emitting {\mu}-PIC for NEWAGE direction-sensitive dark-matter search
NEWAGE is a direction-sensitive dark-matter-search experiment that uses a
micro-patterned gaseous detector, or {\mu}-PIC, as the readout. The main
background sources are {\alpha}-rays from radioactive contaminants in the
{\mu}-PIC. We have therefore developed a low-alpha-emitting {\mu}-PICs and
measured its performances. We measured the surface {\alpha}-ray emission rate
of the {\mu}-PIC in the Kamioka mine using a surface {\alpha}-ray counter based

Chromatogram of Humoral Lectin of Bombyx mori by FPLC.
"Mono Q ion exchange chromatography was performed on Con A-adsorbed fractions from haemolymph and fat body of Bombyx mori, by means of FPLC system. The result showed that both of the chromatograms revealed similar patterns. On the other hand, Superdex 200 pg gel filtration was tried on the each Con A-adsorbed fraction and Mono Q ion exchange chromatography was performed on Fr-III obtained by means of gel filtration. The result showed that the elution pattern was much almost same as one of Mono Q ion exchange chromatography on the Con A-adsorbed fraction from the haemolymph or the fat body. Then, the result of SDS-PAGE analysis on the fractions showed that each lane gave a single band. These results strongly suggest that the humoral lectin-protein is produced and activated in fat body, and that it is moved into haemolymph.
