In this study, we tried to extract children's view of interior space through modeling of a room. As a result, the investigation revealed the fact that children understand interior space gradually from nearby things to the whole room. There is a sex difference in the view of interior that girls understand practically, while boys do fancifully. On the whole, the first-year students of an elementary school don't know how to understand interior, the second years begins to be interested in color and figures and the third and forth years in patterns. And in the third and forth years students deepen their understanding of ceiling, in the fifth they get to think much of the formation of windows and in the junior high school days, the three-dimensional understanding of space is though to be almost completed

Background: The Highs scale has been developed to evaluate hypomanic symptoms in the first postpartum week. However, it has not been elucidated whether this scale is also applicable to pregnant women. To address this issue, we confirmed the factor structure, reliability, and validity of the Japanese version of the Highs scale for pregnant and postpartum women. Methods: 418 women provided effective responses to both the Highs scale and the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS) during early pregnancy (before week 25), late pregnancy (around week 36), at 5 days and at 1 month after delivery. Subjects were randomly divided into two groups, and exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses were performed for each group. Cronbach's alpha was calculated and the correlation of the Highs scale with EPDS was analyzed. The correlation between the subscales was analyzed at four time points, and the correlation of subscales between the four time points was confirmed. Results: This scale was found to have the two-factor structure with elation and agitation subscales. The two subscales had reasonable internal consistency at all time points (Cronbach's alpha range: Factor 1, 0.696–0.758; Factor 2, 0.553–0.694). The overall scale had reasonable internal consistency at all time points (Cronbach's alpha range: 0.672–0.738). Based on the correlation analysis of the two subscales and EPDS, discriminative and convergent validity were indicated at all time points, confirming the construct validity of the Highs scale. Subscale scores showed a significant correlation with EPDS at all time points (r = 0.388, 0.384, 0.498, and 0.442, p < 0.01).Conclusions: The Japanese version of the Highs scale is reliable and valid, and can be applied for evaluating the hypomanic symptoms during pregnancy and postpartum period

The effect of periodontal treatment for atherosclerotic indicator:cardio ankle vascular index(CAVI)

Independent from hyperlipidemia, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, smoking, a classical risk factor for arteriosclerosis, it has been shown that various types of chronic inflammationmay be involved in the development of arteriosclerosis. As a chronic inflammation, theprevalence rate of periodontal disease is reported to be about 80% at the age of 30 to 50years, and about ₉0% at the age of 60ʼs. In this study, cardio ankle vascular index (CAVI),a vascular function test, was measured as an indicator of arteriosclerosis before and aftertreatment of periodontal disease. As a result, it was revealed that CAVI statistically significantly decreased by treatment of periodontal disease. Further studies are needed in th

Optical Study of the Stripe-Ordered State

The effects of the stripe order on the optical spectra of La-based cuprates are reviewed. The main effect on the high Tc superconducting cuprates is to rapidly reduce the Josephson plasma frequency in the c-axis spectrum as a consequence of weakening of the Josephson coupling between CuO2 layers. This points toward a two dimensional (2D) superconductivity in the stripe phase, although it is difficult to realize a 2D superconductivity in real materials. We also discuss the experimental results suggesting the presence of stripe effect in other cuprates even if they do not show the static stripe phase. Compared to the c-axis spectra, the in-plane spectra are not so dramatically affected by the stripe order, showing a weak gap-like feature and reducing the condensate spectral weight.Comment: in press, Physica C(2012

Molecular Cloning, Genomic Structure, and Expression Analysis of MUC20, a Novel Mucin Protein, Up-regulated in Injured Kidney

Immunoglobulin A nephropathy (IgAN) is the most common primary glomerulonephritis in the world. Here, we identify a cDNA encoding a novel mucin protein, shown previously to be up-regulated in IgAN patients, from a human kidney cDNA library. This protein contains a mucin tandem repeat of 19 amino acids consisting of many threonine, serine, and proline residues and likely to be extensively O-glycosylated; thus, this gene was classified in the mucin family and named MUC20. The human MUC20 gene contains at least four exons and is localized close to MUC4 on chromosome 3q29. We found variations in repeat numbers in the mucin tandem domain, suggesting polymorphism of this region. Northern blot and reverse transcription-PCR analyses revealed that human MUC20 mRNA was expressed most highly in kidney and moderately in placenta, colon, lung, prostate, and liver. Immunohistochemical analysis of human kidney revealed that MUC20 protein was localized in the proximal tubules. Immunoblotting analysis of MUC20 proteins produced in Madin-Darby canine kidney and HEK293 cells indicated the localization of MUC20 protein in a membrane fraction and extensive posttranslational modification. Immunoelectron microscopy of MUC20-producing Madin-Darby canine kidney cells demonstrated that MUC20 protein was localized on the plasma membrane. Expression of MUC20 mRNA in a human kidney cell line was up-regulated by tumor necrosis factor-alpha, phorbol 12-myristate 13-acetate, or lipopolysaccharide. Two species of MUC20 mRNA (hMUC20-L and hMUC20-S), resulting from alternative transcription, were identified in human tissue, whereas only one variant was observed in mouse tissues. Mouse MUC20 mRNA was expressed in the epithelial cells of proximal tubules, and the expression increased dramatically with the progression of lupus nephritis in the kidney of MRL/MpJ-lpr/lpr mice. Moreover, the expression of mouse MUC20 was augmented in renal tissues acutely injured by cisplatin or unilateral ureteral obstruction. These characteristics suggest that the production of MUC20 is correlated with development and progression of IgAN and other renal injuries
