An algebraic description of screw dislocations in SC and BCC crystal lattices

We give an algebraic description of screw dislocations in a crystal, especially simple cubic (SC) and body centered cubic (BCC) crystals, using free abelian groups and fibering structures. We also show that the strain energy of a screw dislocation based on the spring model is expressed by the Epstein-Hurwitz zeta function approximately.Comment: 41 pages, 7 figure

Methods to induce perpendicular magnetic anisotropy in full-Heusler Co2FeSi thin layers in a magnetic tunnel junction structure

In this study, to obtain perpendicular magnetic tunnel junctions (p-MTJs) using half-metallic ferromagnets (HMFs), several methods were developed to induce perpendicular magnetic anisotropy (PMA) in full-Heusler Co2FeSi (CFS) alloy thin layers in an MTJ multilayer composed of a layered CFS/MgO/CFS structure. Oxygen exposure at 2.0 Pa for 10 min after deposition of the bottom CFS layer was effective for obtaining PMA in the CFS layer. One of the reasons for the PMA is the formation of nearly ideal CFS/MgO interfaces due to oxygen exposure before the deposition of the MgO layer. The annealing process was effective for obtaining PMA in the top CFS layer capped with a Pd layer. PMA was clearly observed in the top CFS layer of a Cr(40 nm)/Pd(50 nm)/bottom CFS(0.6 nm)/MgO(2.0 nm)/top CFS(0.6 nm)/Pd(10 nm) multilayer, where the top CFS and Pd thin films were deposited at RT and subsequently annealed at 300{\deg}C. In addition to the continuous layer growth of the films, the crystalline orientation alignment at the top CFS/Pd interface probably attributes to the origin of PMA at the top CFS layer.Comment: 16 pages, 4 figure

CHARACTERISTICS OF PULLING MOVEMENT FOR JAPANESE ELITE TUG OF WAR ATHLETES

    Get PDF
The purpose of this study was to clarify the characteristics of pulling movement for Japanese elite tug of war athletes in the world. In order to examine the pUlling movement, 6 joint angles (viz.: shoulder, trunk, knee, body, upper body, and lower body) of each sUbject were obtained by the DLT motion analysis system during 2004 All Japan Tug of War Championship tournament. It was found that the elite puller of world champion team inclined his upper body more heavily to backwards, and his lower body a little bit more slightly to forwards, extending both the hip and the knee, than that of average team. Therefore, it was concluded that the elite puller of world champion team could be able to push and pull his whole body power totally and quite efficiently

Measurement of de Haas-van Alphen Effect with Hybrid Magnet(Transport and Fermiology)

An apparatus to measure the de Haas-van Alphen effect in steady high magnetic field has been constructed by using hybrid magnets at Tohoku University. Fermi surfaces were investigated on cuprate high-temperature superconductor and rare earth antimonide. The spectral analyses were performed by using the maximum entropy method as well as the Fourier transformation. In magnetically oriented YBa_2Cu_3O_ and Tl_2Ba_2CuO_ powder , the spectral density shows a peak at 456 T and 400 T, respectively. A slight change of extremal cross-section was found in PrSb above 15 T

Deep variational quantum eigensolver for excited states and its application to quantum chemistry calculation of periodic materials

A programmable quantum device that has a large number of qubits without fault-tolerance has emerged recently. Variational quantum eigensolver (VQE) is one of the most promising ways to utilize the computational power of such devices to solve problems in condensed matter physics and quantum chemistry. As the size of the current quantum devices is still not large for rivaling classical computers at solving practical problems, Fujii et al. proposed a method called “Deep VQE”, which can provide the ground state of a given quantum system with the smaller number of qubits by combining the VQE and the technique of coarse graining [K. Fujii, K. Mitarai, W. Mizukami, and Y. O. Nakagawa, arXiv:2007.10917]. In this paper, we extend the original proposal of Deep VQE to obtain the excited states and apply it to quantum chemistry calculation of a periodic material, which is one of the most impactful applications of the VQE. We first propose a modified scheme to construct quantum states for coarse graining in Deep VQE to obtain the excited states. We also present a method to avoid a problem of meaningless eigenvalues in the original Deep VQE without restricting variational quantum states. Finally, we classically simulate our modified Deep VQE for quantum chemistry calculation of a periodic hydrogen chain as a typical periodic material. Our method reproduces the ground-state energy and the first-excited-state energy with the errors up to O(1)% despite the decrease in the number of qubits required for the calculation by two or four compared with the naive VQE. Our result will serve as a beacon for tackling quantum chemistry problems with classically-intractable sizes by smaller quantum devices in the near future

Regulation of heparin-binding EGF-like growth factor expression by phorbol ester in a human hepatoma-derived cell line

AbstractHeparin-binding EGF-like growth factor (HB-EGF) is a recently identified potent mitogen for smooth muscle cells and fibroblasts. HB-EGF has been shown to be an EGF receptor ligand, and also to stimulate epithelial cell growth. A human hepatoma-derived cell line, Mahlavu, was analyzed for the production of HB-EGF mRNA and active HB-EGF protein. It was found that the cell line synthesized very low or undetectable basal level of HB-EGF mRNA. However, the addition of 12-O-tetradecanoylphorbol-13-acetate (TPA) led to a rapid and transient rise in HB-EGF mRNA level. HB-EGF in Mahlavu cells appears to be regulated by a protein kinase C (PKC) pathway, since PKC inhibitors, H7, staurosporin, and calphostin C, abrogated the induction of HB-EGF mRNA by TPA. Unlike vascular smooth muscle cells, induction of HB-EGF gene transcription by TPA was blocked completely by incubation with cycloheximide, suggesting that protein synthesis may be a prerequisite for HB-EGF gene transcription in Mahlavu cells. Mahlavu cells were also found to release a bioactive HB-EGF-like protein into conditioned medium which stimulates DNA synthesis in EP170.7 cells. This activity was neutralized by an anti-HB-EGF antibody. These results indicate that HB-EGF gene transcription is regulated via a PKC pathway, resulting in secretion of active HB-EGF into the culture medium of hepatoma-derived Mahlavu cells
