Diaquabis(2-carboxybenzoato-κO)nickel(II)
In the title compound, [Ni(C8H5O4)2(H2O)2], the NiII atom lies on an inversion centre and exhibits a square-planar geometry incorporating two phthalate and two water O atoms. The nickel complex is stabilized by intramolecular interactions involving water O atoms and H atoms of the phthalate groups. It forms one-dimensional zigzag chains along the b axis which are held together via π–π stacking interactions (3.647 Å) between the benzene rings of the phthalate groups. The adjacent chains are also hydrogen bonded, resulting in a three-dimensional supramolecular network
Production of Active Nonglycosylated Recombinant B-Chain of Type-2 Ribosome-Inactivating Protein from Viscum articulatum and Its Biological Effects on Peripheral Blood Mononuclear Cells
Type-2 ribosome-inactivating proteins, composed of a toxic A-chain and lectin-like B-chain, display various biological functions, including cytotoxicity and immunomodulation. We here cloned the lectin-like B-chain encoding fragment of a newly identified type-2 RIP gene, articulatin gene, from Viscum articulatum, into a bacterial expression vector to obtain nonglycosylated recombinant protein expressed in inclusion bodies. After purification and protein refolding, soluble refolded recombinant articulatin B-chain (rATB) showed lectin activity specific toward galactoside moiety and was stably maintained while stored in low ionic strength solution. Despite lacking glycosylation, rATB actively bound leukocytes with preferential binding to monocytes and in vitro stimulated PBMCs to release cytokines without obvious cytotoxicity. These results implicated such a B-chain fragment as a potential immunomodulator

Experimental Gaussian Boson Sampling
Gaussian Boson sampling (GBS) provides a highly efficient approach to make
use of squeezed states from parametric down-conversion to solve a classically
hard-to-solve sampling problem. The GBS protocol not only significantly
enhances the photon generation probability, compared to standard boson sampling
with single photon Fock states, but also links to potential applications such
as dense subgraph problems and molecular vibronic spectra. Here, we report the
first experimental demonstration of GBS using squeezed-state sources with
simultaneously high photon indistinguishability and collection efficiency. We
implement and validate 3-, 4- and 5-photon GBS with high sampling rates of 832
kHz, 163 kHz and 23 kHz, respectively, which is more than 4.4, 12.0, and 29.5
times faster than the previous experiments. Further, we observe a quantum
speed-up on a NP-hard optimization problem when comparing with simulated
thermal sampler and uniform sampler.Comment: 12 pages, 4 figures, published online on 2nd April 201
Duration of Antibody Responses after Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome
Among 176 patients who had had severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS), SARS-specific antibodies were maintained for an average of 2 years, and significant reduction of immunoglobulin G–positive percentage and titers occurred in the third year. Thus, SARS patients might be susceptible to reinfection >3 years after initial exposure
An Updated Search of Steady TeV Ray Point Sources in Northern Hemisphere Using the Tibet Air Shower Array
Using the data taken from Tibet II High Density (HD) Array (1997
February-1999 September) and Tibet-III array (1999 November-2005 November), our
previous northern sky survey for TeV ray point sources has now been
updated by a factor of 2.8 improved statistics. From to
in declination (Dec) range, no new TeV ray point
sources with sufficiently high significance were identified while the
well-known Crab Nebula and Mrk421 remain to be the brightest TeV ray
sources within the field of view of the Tibet air shower array. Based on the
currently available data and at the 90% confidence level (C.L.), the flux upper
limits for different power law index assumption are re-derived, which are
approximately improved by 1.7 times as compared with our previous reported
limits.Comment: This paper has been accepted by hepn
