The National Digital Library of India (NDLI) is a National Mission Project initiated by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) on education to engage, facilitate and inspire all learners across the country regardless of the age, demographics and ability. The National Digital Library of India is a melting pot of knowledge and information that holds an extensive variety of lectures, courses, archives in various media forms curated, collected and created by the best institutions of the country. It is a platform designed to make digital educational resources accessible to all citizens of the country to inspire, empower and encourage learning. The present study is an attempt to provide an overview of the National Digital Library of India (NDL India) to understand its advantages, features and collection in the global digital space. The study also explores the learning resources contributed by multiple sources and the content available in various file formats. In order to carry out the present work, the requisite data were collected from the official website of the NDL India. The data was later analyzed to achieve the set objectives. The NDL India is expected to bring a paradigm shift in education movement by solving many of the long-standing obstacles in achieving the goal “education for all” thereby enabling every person with the knowledge resources they need to empower themselves. The study can also act as a beacon light for the professional community to serve global users in general and Indian in particular

Introduction: The World Digital Library, one of the hallmark digital preservation initiatives with a global perspective was launched by the UNESCO and the U.S. Library of Congress in collaboration with 32 partner institutions on April 21, 2009. The World Digital Library archives and provides access to unique cultural materials from libraries, archives, museums, educational institutions, and international organizations from 193 countries around the world. It aims at promoting international and intercultural understanding, expand the volume and variety of cultural content on the Internet, provide resources for educators, scholars, and general audiences, and to narrow the information divide within and among countries by capacity building in partner institutions. Objectives: The World Digital Library provides unprecedented, free of charge access to significant primary historic materials including; manuscripts, maps, rare books, films, sound recordings, prints and photographs. The aim of the present study is to analyze such resources on the basis of the regional attributes, lingual patterns, time periods, subject coverage and institutional contribution. Methodology: The World Digital Library website is being explored to retrieve the information to examine its collection on various facets. Results: The maximum number of resources in the World Digital Library is available on Europe (7276), dealing with History and Geography (16,135), contributed by the Library of Congress (8537) and available in the Arabic language (2830). Implications: The study can act as an indicator highlighting the importance of the WDL as a promising platform for preservation, access and descent of global cultural and heritage resources

A Systematic Review of Open Access Institutional Repositories (OAIRs)

    Get PDF
The article tries to explore the existing literature on Open Access Institutional Repositories (OAIRs) so that the existing developments can be identified and research gaps can be investigated. This structured review was carried out with the aid of three indexing databases, Web of Science, Scopus, and Google Scholar. Different search terms showcasing multiple dimensions of OAIRs were executed across the three databases. After eliminating the duplicate records, the papers were scanned for final review. The paper tries to highlight the status, content management policies, and Web 2.0 use/ Interactive features of the OAIRs. How the OAIRs are used by academia is also a highlight of the paper. The paper also focuses on the studies that showcase the awareness of the users using the OAIRs. Furthermore, the studies featuring the problems, and challenges have also been incorporated. Studies that focus on the factors and motivators in the use of OA IRs also form a part of the paper

AU-Rich Element RNA Binding Proteins: At the Crossroads of Post-Transcriptional Regulation and Genome Integrity.

Genome integrity must be tightly preserved to ensure cellular survival and to deter the genesis of disease. Endogenous and exogenous stressors that impose threats to genomic stability through DNA damage are counteracted by a tightly regulated DNA damage response (DDR). RNA binding proteins (RBPs) are emerging as regulators and mediators of diverse biological processes. Specifically, RBPs that bind to adenine uridine (AU)-rich elements (AREs) in the 3' untranslated region (UTR) of mRNAs (AU-RBPs) have emerged as key players in regulating the DDR and preserving genome integrity. Here we review eight established AU-RBPs (AUF1, HuR, KHSRP, TIA-1, TIAR, ZFP36, ZFP36L1, ZFP36L2) and their ability to maintain genome integrity through various interactions. We have reviewed canonical roles of AU-RBPs in regulating the fate of mRNA transcripts encoding DDR genes at multiple post-transcriptional levels. We have also attempted to shed light on non-canonical roles of AU-RBPs exploring their post-translational modifications (PTMs) and sub-cellular localization in response to genotoxic stresses by various factors involved in DDR and genome maintenance. Dysfunctional AU-RBPs have been increasingly found to be associated with many human cancers. Further understanding of the roles of AU-RBP in maintaining genomic integrity may uncover novel therapeutic strategies for cancer

Purpose: The study seeks to elicit information on gender difference with regards to the familiarity with IT, Search Engines, Automated Library Services and Electronic Information Resources. It also aims to determine the frequency of use of various Automated Library Services and Electronic Information Resources and the influence of the Internet on the information seeking behavior of the postgraduate students. Methodology: The study adopted a survey method administering the well-structured questionnaire. The questionnaires were distributed with equal proportion based on gender among 208 PG students of science and social science faculty selected by stratified random sampling technique. Findings: The study revealed that the Internet to a greater extent has influenced information seeking behaviour of more females (39.4%) than males (32.7%). Further, the study revealed that the numbers of search engines that are known to respondents are very few (Google & Yahoo). It was seen that both male and female postgraduate students are moderately aware of library services like Circulation, Reference, and Internet services rendered in the university library. Also, such services are being used by most of the respondents across both the genders. The results further show that there is an extremely low awareness level across the genders regarding the e-resources provided by the university library. Implication: The study implies that it provides fresh data to the library management on the awareness and use of library services and e-resources by the postgraduate students. Besides, the study will be useful for policy-makers in the library and also it contributes to the literature

The study is an attempt to identify the bibliometric facets of Free Google Books like collection size, authorship patterns, time-series, and publishing bodies on ‘Peace’ and ‘War’. The Google Book archive was searched using two search terms ‘Peace’ and ‘War’ in advanced search mode. The search was executed on free Google books during the month of January 2019. Bibliographical details of all the hits (results) retrieved were collected, tabulated, analyzed and interpreted to reveal results. Google Books retrieved 566 e-books on ‘Peace’ out of these, 173 (30.56%) e-books are available in full view whereas 517 e-books were available on “War” out of these 193 (37.33%) e-books are available in full view. The majority of books published during the 19th century are archived by the Google as these were free from the copyright restrictions. Large numbers of Google Books are written by single authors on War (153, 79.24) as well as on Peace (116, 67.05). However, corporate bodies have also contributed significantly in Peace publications (19, 10.98) as well. All sorts of publishers’ commercial, governmental, non-profit societies and even individual publishers including authors have contributed to publishing activities on Peace and War. A good number of books on Peace (171) and War (174) aren’t reviewed by users and till date, only 21 books have been reviewed by users. Among the reviewed books, almost 50% of the books on Peace and War have received 5-star ranking
