Investigation on Geosynthetic Reinforced Two Layered Soil System
Use of geosynthetics for flexible pavements founded on expansive soil subgrade is one of feasible and economic solution to minimize the undulation and required pavement thickness. In this present investigation the effect of inclusion of the geosynthetic reinforcement on California Bearing Ratio (CBR) value of a two layered soil system with black cotton soil at bottom and granular soil at top as a buffer layer, with different thickness configuration and geotextiles of different physical and mechanical properties was studied by laboratory and field California bearing ratio tests. Thickness of flexible pavement over the two layer soil system of different thickness configurations was estimated for unreinforced and reinforced two layered soil system by the method suggested by United States Army Corps of Engineers and Indian Road Congress. The reduction (%) in the thickness of pavement due to inclusion of geotextiles has been observed in the investigation. The reduction in thickness of pavement can be achieved up to 53.53% depending upon the thickness configuration and the type of the geotextile used. The results have shown that the field CBR tests can yield the results in conformity with the values obtained in the laboratory test
Anatomical variations of sinonasal region: a CT scan study
Multislice CT is currently the imaging modality of choice for evaluating PNS & adjacent structures. Such a method has been increasingly utilized in the assessment of anatomical variations, allowing their accurate identification with high anatomical details. Some anatomical variations may predispose to sinonasal disease, constituting areas of high risk for injuries & complications during surgical procedures. Therefore, the recognition of such variations is critical in the preoperative evaluation for endoscopic surgery
Analgesic use and potential hearing loss: a pharmacovigilance study
Background: Hearing loss is the most common sensory deficit in humans today. In India, as per WHO there are approximately 63 million people, who are suffering from significant auditory impairment and estimated prevalence at 6.3% in Indian population. The objective of the study was to determine the potential hearing loss in patients on analgesics.Methods: Prospective, observational study examined the association between analgesic use and potential hearing loss in 30 patients receiving NSAIDS. Data was collected using specialized designed case record form. The clinical signs like onset of tinnitus, appearance of another sound that didn't exist before, sinus infection or a respiratory illness, development of vertigo or spinning sensation were looked for. Audiometry test was advised for all the patients receiving analgesics.Results: Total of 30 patients were included in the study. Male predominance was noted Maximum patients were in the age group between 35-45 years (33.33%). The socioeconomic status was analyzed using revised kuppuswamy scale. 30% (n=09) of patients were in lower class. Majority of the patients were reported with road traffic accidents (n=19; 63.33%) and received analgesics for more than 2 weeks. Patients received different combination of NSAIDs among which aceclofenac was most commonly prescribed. 11 (36.66%) patients had hearing loss received either diclofenac or aceclofenac for more than 25 days.Conclusions: Regular usage of NSAIDS may increase the risk of hearing loss and the impact could be larger on younger individuals. Hence, extra precaution to be taken while prescribing NSAIDS
Evaluation of pigeonpea genotypes for resistance to pigeonpea sterility Mmsaic Vvrus - B Isolate
Pigeonpea genotypes (89) were evaluated for resistance to Pigeonpea sterility mosaic virus Bangalore isolate (PPSMV-B). Of these, three genotypes, ICP 7035, MAL 14 and MAL 19, were found resistant, and two genotypes, ICP 6997 and ICP 8862, were tolerant to PPSMV-B. All the resistant lines tested negative to virus in enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) using PPSMV polyclonal antiserum. The resistant lines can be used in breeding programme for developing PPSMV-resistant high yielding cultivar

Reconfiguration in shipboard power systems
A shipboard power system is self contained, tightly coupled, and small enough to allow nearly real time state estimation, given the right equivalent circuit representations. Redirecting power flow is the preeminent task of reconfiguration. This redirection should be accomplished in less than two cycles, while never compromising system stability or power delivery to critical loads. These performance objectives can be approached using an equivalent impedance system representation and various optimization procedures. This reconfiguration control approach is demonstrated through a Matlab SimulinkĀ© simulation. Additional issues are addressed concerning the proper realization of a reconfigurable power system by incorporating gas turbine status, as well as due consideration for stable and safe transition between different power system states.Center for Electromechanic
Performance of Indian Manufacturing in the Post Reform Period
Many emerging countries in recent decades have relied on a development strategy that focused primarily on promoting the manufacturing sector and the exports of manufactured goods. However, an acceleration of growth of output and employment in manufacturing has eluded India. This is despite the fact that the central focus of the reforms in the 1980s and 1990s was to unshackle the manufacturing sector. Instead it is the services sector which has grown rapidly, contributing about two-third of GDP growth in recent years. This paper discusses the reasons behind the modest performance of the manufacturing sector in India post reforms. It argues that there are many factors that have inhibited the growth of industrial sector in India. One major factor is the rigid and strict labor laws which have affected the industrial performance in a number of ways, by keeping the size of the establishments small, by not encouraging the production of labor intensive goods, by pushing activities to the unorganized sector, and by keeping the Indian industry uncompetitive. Besides the labor laws other factors that are responsible for the modest performance of the manufacturing sector include difficulty in the acquisition of land for industrial use, inadequate financing and infrastructure, and cumbersome business climate. Scintillation Counters for the D0 Muon Upgrade
We present the results of an upgrade to the D0 muon system. Scintillating
counters have been added to the existing central D0 muon system to provide
rejection for cosmic ray muons and out-of-time background, and to provide
additional fast timing information for muons in an upgraded Tevatron.

Simultano UV-spektrofotometrijsko odreÄivanje ramiprila, acetilsalicilne kiseline i atorvastatin kalcija u kapsulama primjenom kemometrijskih metoda
In the present work, three different spectrophotometric methods for simultaneous estimation of ramipril, aspirin and atorvastatin calcium in raw materials and in formulations are described. Overlapped data was quantitatively resolved by using chemometric methods, viz. inverse least squares (ILS), principal component regression (PCR) and partial least squares (PLS). Calibrations were constructed using the absorption data matrix corresponding to the concentration data matrix. The linearity range was found to be 1-5, 10-50 and 2-10 Āµg mLā1 for ramipril, aspirin and atorvastatin calcium, respectively. The absorbance matrix was obtained by measuring the zero-order absorbance in the wavelength range between 210 and 320 nm. A training set design of the concentration data corresponding to the ramipril, aspirin and atorvastatin calcium mixtures was organized statistically to maximize the information content from the spectra and to minimize the error of multivariate calibrations. By applying the respective algorithms for PLS 1, PCR and ILS to the measured spectra of the calibration set, a suitable model was obtained. This model was selected on the basis of RMSECV and RMSEP values. The same was applied to the prediction set and capsule formulation. Mean recoveries of the commercial formulation set together with other figures of merit (calibration sensitivity, selectivity, limit of detection, limit of quantification and analytical sensitivity) were estimated. Validity of the proposed approaches was successfully assessed for analyses of drugs in the various prepared physical mixtures and formulations.U radu su opisane tri razliÄite spektrofotometrijske metode za odreÄivanje ramiprila, acetilsalicilne kiseline i atorvastatin kalcija u sirovinama i formulacijama. Kalibracije su postavljene pomoÄu matrice podataka za apsorpciju koja odgovara matrici pripadajuÄih koncentracija. PodruÄje linearnosti za ramipril iznosilo je 1ā5, za acetilsalicilnu kiselinu 10ā50, a za atorvastatin kalcij 2ā10 Āµg mLā1. Matrica s apsorbancijama dobivena je mjerenjem apsorbancije nultog reda na valnim duljinama izmeÄu 210 i 320 nm. Set podataka za koncentracije ramiprila, acetilsalicilne kiseline i atorvastatin kalcija u smjesi statistiÄki je tako organiziran da osigura maksimalnu koliÄinu informacije u spektrima i minimalizira greÅ”ku multivarijantnih kalibracija. Primjenom odgovarajuÄih algoritama za PLS, PCR i ILS na snimljene spektre kalibracijskog seta dobiven je dobar model, koji je odabran na temelju RMSECV i RMSEP vrijednosti. Isti model je primijenjen i na set s predviÄenim vrijednostima i na kapsule sa smjesom ove tri ljekovite tvari. OdreÄena je srednja vrijednost povrata za komercijalnu formulaciju te ostale analitiÄke izvedbene znaÄajke (kalibracijska osjetljivost, selektivnost, granica dokazivanja, granica odreÄivanja i analitiÄka osjetljivost). PotvrÄena je primjenjljivost predloženih metoda u analizama lijekova u fiziÄkim smjesama i u gotovim ljekovitim oblicima
Economic implications of groundwater exploitation in hard rock areas of southern peninsular India
The present paper analyses the consequences of groundwater exploitation by
using ļ¬eld-level data collected from two distinct well irrigated areas of Karnataka. The
study results show that the consequences arising out of groundwater overexploitation are
severe in high well interference area compared to low well interference area. The burden of
well failure is more or less equally shared by all categories of farmers but small farmers are
the worst victims of resource scarcity. As a result, overexploitation of groundwater has
different impacts on different categories of farmers in terms of access to groundwater, cost
and returns to groundwater irrigation and its negative externality cost. The study suggests
maintaining inter-well distance to prevent resource mining and calls for supply and
demand side interventions. The institutional reform is necessary to restore surface water
bodies to facilitate aquifer recharge
