Sensory Integration for Survivors of Intimate Partner Violence (IPV)
Since the start of the global pandemic, stay-at-home orders forced IPV survivors to stay in the home with abusers, increasing the risk of abuse, and the impact of psychological trauma. (Bright et al., 2020). Occupational therapists are trained professionals in incorporating sensory-based strategies to focus on the somatic manifestations experienced by the body from trauma and can help to regulate physiological and psychological responses through sensory stimuli (Mcgreevy & Boland et al., 2020). The development of this project sparked an opportunity to publish a new framework to introduce the role of sensory integration in treating survivors of intimate partner violence (IPV). This framework guides the Sensory Room Manual developed to support clinicians in introducing sensory integration as a treatment approach to support trauma recovery. The purpose of this manual is to advocate for more on-site sensory rooms and occupational therapists on the interdisciplinary team for survivors of IPV.https://soar.usa.edu/otdcapstones-spring2022/1001/thumbnail.jp
Sample Size Calculation Guide - Part 1: How to Calculate the Sample Size Based on the Prevalence Rate
Sample size calculation is an essential methodological issue in clinical research. It is crucial to ensure that the study has sufficient participants in order to detect the expected effect estimate. Moreover, it has been advocated that the underpowered clinical trials lead to wastage of time, money, and resources, and are not ethical as they do not generate expected results and expose the patients to a higher risk. Considering the importance of this methodological point, we shall commence the research methodology section of the Advanced Journal of Emergency Medicine with a series of educational letters explaining the method to calculate the sample size for various clinical research study designs. For more illustration, each educational note will be accompanied by a real-life example from the published articles in emergency medicine research. This is the first article of our educational series where we have explained the sample size calculation based on a prevalence rate
Sample Size Calculation Guide - Part 2: How to Calculate the Sample Size for an Independent Cohort Study
In the previous article, we explained how to calculate the sample size for a cross-sectional study based on a rate or a single proportion. In this article, we will explain how to calculate the sample size for an independent cohort study based on a comparison of two proportions representing the event rates in both the exposed and the non-exposed groups

Sample Size Calculation Guide - Part 4: How to Calculate the Sample Size for a Diagnostic Test Accuracy Study based on Sensitivity, Specificity, and the Area Under the ROC Curve
In the previous educational articles, we explained how to calculate the sample size for a rate or a single proportion (part 1), for an independent cohort study (part 2), and for an independent case-control study (part 3). In this article, we will explain how to calculate the sample size for a diagnostic test accuracy study based on sensitivity, specificity, or the area under the ROC curve

Sample Size Calculation Guide - Part 3: How to Calculate the Sample Size for an Independent Case-control Study
In the previous educational articles, we explained how to calculate the sample size for a rate or a single proportion and how to calculate the sample size for an independent cohort study. In this article, we will explain how to calculate the sample size for an independent case-control study based on the odds ratios or two proportions representing the exposure rates in the case and the control groups
