Offenders and E-Learning - a literature review on behalf of Becta
This literature review has been prepared by the Hallam Centre of Community Justice at Sheffield Hallam University, on behalf of Becta. The literature review provides a summary of existing research and knowledge relating to e-learning in the offending learning sector with a view to developing a range of e-maturity indicators across the sector. The review also highlights linkages with current Government policy in relation to offender learning and skills
Educating Students After Acquiring a Traumatic Brain Injury: A Meta-Synthesis
Since the addition of traumatic brain injury, as a specific category, to the Individuals with Disabilities Act of 1990, schools around the United States have become more aware of this complex, unique disability. More students are now being serviced correctly by special education teachers and support personnel, in the educational setting. As more students are entering the education system, under the disability category of traumatic brain injury, and receiving the correct individualized services for their disability, the more students are graduating from high school and going on to be successful in a college education. These individuals are able to have access to accommodations they need in school and possibly for the rest of their lives. Participatory action and dual lens research
Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to explore the idea that, in the last few decades, collaborative inquiry methods have evolved along a similar trajectory to dual lens research. Dual lens research, known in various contexts as both ways, two-eyed seeing Old Ways New Ways, and Koodjal Jinnung (looking both ways), is designed to generate new knowledge by exploring a theme through Aboriginal and contemporary western lenses. Participatory action research and a dual lens approach are considered in a number of projects with a particular focus on the issues such work can raise including conceptual challenges posed by fundamental differences between knowledge sets. Design/methodology/approach: The authors hypothesize that a dual lens approach will become a branch of participatory action research, as such, a robust description needs to be developed and its ethical implications are considered. Existing work in this direction, including principles and processes, are collated and discussed. Findings: Dual lens research as a branch of participatory action research is of great significance in countries with Aboriginal populations that are undergoing a cultural renaissance. As dual lens practitioners, the authors are finding their research outputs have a high positive impact on both Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal populations and make a genuine contribution to reconciliation by finding ways of going forward together. Validation and modeling of aeronautical composite structures subjected to combined loadings: The VERTEX project. Part 2: Load envelopes for the assessment of panels with large notches
One of the important issues in the certification of composite aeronautical structures is large notches. In this paper, tests are carried out on technological specimens and under tensile, shear stresses and combined loadings using the VERTEX means presented in the first part of this publication. Strong interactions between postbuckling and propagation of cuts were observed. The FE-SDIC methodology developed specifically allows a first dialog between calculation / testing. The Discrete Ply Modeling method is able to compute the onset of failure of such complex tests. New tests responses called "envelop" are proposed and realized by following a load path that allows to validate the behavior of the notched structure for certification purposes. This methodology should eventually lead to a new vision of the tests pyramid by "Predictive Virtual Testing"
