Assessment of forests structure and forest care efficiency
The search of the most acceptable approaches is carried out in assessment of forests care efficiency. The system from 17 indicators and the equations for result calculation of young growths care, thinning out, re-form, reconstructive cuttings, forest protection and other actions is proposed
Next-to-Leading Order perturbative QCD corrections to baryon correlators in matter
We compute the next-to-leading order perturbative QCD corrections to the
correlators of nucleon interpolating currents in relativistic nuclear matter.
The main new result is the calculation of the O(alpha_s) perturbative
corrections to the coefficient functions of the vector quark condensate in
matter. This condensate appears in matter due to the violation of Lorentz
invariance. The NLO perturbative QCD corrections turn out to be large which
implies that the NLO corrections must be included in a sum rule analysis of the
properties of both bound nucleons and relativistic nuclear matter.Comment: 19 pages in LaTeX, including 5 Postscript figure
Calculating loops without loop calculations: NLO computation of pentaquark correlators
We compute next-to-leading order (NLO) perturbative QCD corrections to the
correlators of interpolating pentaquark currents. We employ modular techniques
in configuration space which saves us from the onus of having to do loop
calculations. The modular technique is explained in some detail. We present
explicit NLO results for several interpolating pentaquark currents that have
been written down in the literature. Our modular approach is easily adapted to
the case of NLO corrections to multiquark correlators with an arbitrary number
of quarks/antiquarks.Comment: 23 pages, 1 figure, published version. arXiv admin note: text overlap

Shadowing, Binding and Off-Shell Effects in Nuclear Deep Inelastic Scattering
We present a unified description of nuclear deep inelastic scattering (DIS)
over the whole region of the Bjorken variable. Our approach is based on
a relativistically covariant formalism which uses analytical properties of
quark correlators. In the laboratory frame it naturally incorporates two
mechanisms of DIS: (I) scattering from quarks and antiquarks in the target and
(II) production of quark-antiquark pairs followed by interactions with the
target. We first calculate structure functions of the free nucleon and develop
a model for the quark spectral functions. We show that mechanism (II) is
responsible for the sea quark content of the nucleon while mechanism (I)
governs the valence part of the nucleon structure functions. We find that the
coherent interaction of pairs with nucleons in the nucleus leads to
shadowing at small and discuss this effect in detail. In the large
region DIS takes place mainly on a single nucleon. There we focus on the
derivation of the convolution model. We point out that the off-shell properties
of the bound nucleon structure function give rise to sizable nuclear effects.Comment: 29 pages (and 10 figures available as hard copies from Authors),

Floating marine macro litter in the Black Sea: Toward baselines for large scale assessment
The Black Sea is a semi-enclosed basin subject to major anthropogenic pressures, including marine litter and plastic pollution. Due to numerous large rivers draining into the basin and a population settled along the coast, the region could accumulate significant amounts of floating litter over time. Until now, only limited field data were available, and litter quantities and distribution remained unknown. In this study, floating marine macro litter (FMML) was assessed at the regional Black Sea scale for the first time, showing relatively high litter densities across the basin that reached a weighted mean of 81.5 items/km(2). Monitoring data revealed an accumulation of floating items offshore in the eastern part of the basin, resembling on a small scale a "garbage patch', where litter items were trapped, showing elevated densities in comparison to their surrounding areas. Most of these items were made of plastic materials (ca. 96%) and included large numbers of plastic and poly-styrene fragments of small size ranges (2.5-10 cm). Harmonised field data collection through consistent and regular monitoring programmes across the region is essential to establish baselines and thresholds for large scale assessment at international level
Compatibility of neutrino DIS data and global analyses of parton distribution functions
Neutrino\antineutrino deep inelastic scattering (DIS) data provide useful
constrains for the flavor decomposition in global fits of parton distribution
functions (PDF). The smallness of the cross-sections requires the use of
nuclear targets in the experimental setup. Understanding the nuclear
corrections is, for this reason, of utmost importance for a precise
determination of the PDFs. Here, we explore the nuclear effects in the
neutrino\antineutrino-nucleon DIS by comparing the NuTeV, CDHSW, and CHORUS
cross-sections to the predictions derived from the latest parton distribution
functions and their nuclear modifications. We obtain a good description of
these data and find no apparent disagreement between the nuclear effects in
neutrino DIS and those in charged lepton DIS. These results also indicate that
further improvements in the knowledge of the nuclear PDFs could be obtained by
a more extensive use of these sets of neutrino data.Comment: 16 pages, 8 figure
Isospin Dependence of Power Corrections in Deep Inelastic Scattering
We present results of a perturbative QCD analysis of deep inelastic
measurements of both the deuteron and proton structure functions. We evaluate
the theoretical uncertainty associated to nuclear effects in the deuteron, and
we extract simultaneously the isospin depedendence of: i)the higher twists
terms; ii) the ratio of the longitudinal to transverse cross sections; iii) the
ratio of the neutron to proton structure functions. The extraction of the
latter, in particular, has been at the center of an intense debate. Its
accurate determination is crucial both theoretically and for the interpretation
of the more precise neutrino experiments including the newly planned high
intensity 50 GeV proton synchrotron.Comment: 33 pages, 16 figure
Geophysical studies with laser-beam detectors of gravitational waves
The existing high technology laser-beam detectors of gravitational waves may
find very useful applications in an unexpected area - geophysics. To make
possible the detection of weak gravitational waves in the region of high
frequencies of astrophysical interest, ~ 30 - 10^3 Hz, control systems of laser
interferometers must permanently monitor, record and compensate much larger
external interventions that take place in the region of low frequencies of
geophysical interest, ~ 10^{-5} - 3 X 10^{-3} Hz. Such phenomena as tidal
perturbations of land and gravity, normal mode oscillations of Earth,
oscillations of the inner core of Earth, etc. will inevitably affect the
performance of the interferometers and, therefore, the information about them
will be stored in the data of control systems. We specifically identify the
low-frequency information contained in distances between the interferometer
mirrors (deformation of Earth) and angles between the mirrors' suspensions
(deviations of local gravity vectors and plumb lines). We show that the access
to the angular information may require some modest amendments to the optical
scheme of the interferometers, and we suggest the ways of doing that. The
detailed evaluation of environmental and instrumental noises indicates that
they will not prevent, even if only marginally, the detection of interesting
geophysical phenomena. Gravitational-wave instruments seem to be capable of
reaching, as a by-product of their continuous operation, very ambitious
geophysical goals, such as observation of the Earth's inner core oscillations.Comment: 29 pages including 8 figures, modifications and clarifications in
