Probing Unquenching Effects in the Gluon Polarisation in Light Mesons
We introduce an extension to the ladder truncated Bethe-Salpeter equation for
mesons and the rainbow truncated quark Dyson-Schwinger equations which includes
quark-loop corrections to the gluon propagator. This truncation scheme obeys
the axialvector Ward-Takahashi identity relating the quark self-energy and the
Bethe-Salpeter kernel. Two different approximations to the Yang-Mills sector
are used as input: the first is a sophisticated truncation of the full
Yang-Mills Dyson-Schwinger equations, the second is a phenomenologically
motivated form. We find that the spectra and decay constants of pseudoscalar
and vector mesons are overall described well for either approach. Meson mass
results for charge eigenstate vector and pseudoscalar meson masses are compared
to lattice data. The effects of unquenching the system are small but not

Quasi-hermitian Quantum Mechanics in Phase Space
We investigate quasi-hermitian quantum mechanics in phase space using
standard deformation quantization methods: Groenewold star products and Wigner
transforms. We focus on imaginary Liouville theory as a representative example
where exact results are easily obtained. We emphasize spatially periodic
solutions, compute various distribution functions and phase-space metrics, and

Don’t get involved: an examination of how public sector organisations in England are involving disabled people in the Disability Equality Duty
The Disability Equality Duty (DED) came into force in December 2006. It stipulated that all public sector organisations were to develop policies to promote the equality of disabled people as staff members, consumers or visitors. Its emergence comes as part of a network of social policies developed over the last 20 years to promote disability rights and citizenship in the UK. However unlike previous legislation, the DED set in place the need for organisations to be pro-active in their policies and work with disabled people to move towards change in public sector cultures and working practices. This article reports on this early stage of implementation in England. Findings show that whilst some progress has been made in securing change, practice varied greatly. Therefore if a fundamental change in the culture of work and service provision is to be secured, this key requirement will need to be given a higher priority by organisations
Responsiveness of bovine cumulus-oocyte-complexes (COC) to porcine and recombinant human FSH, and the effect of COC quality on gonadotropin receptor and Cx43 marker gene mRNAs during maturation in vitro
Substantially less development to the blastocyst stage occurs in vitro than in vivo and this may be due to deficiencies in oocyte competence. Although a large proportion of bovine oocytes undergo spontaneous nuclear maturation, less is known about requirements for proper cytoplasmic maturation. Commonly, supraphysiological concentrations of FSH and LH are added to maturation media to improve cumulus expansion, fertilization and embryonic development. Therefore, various concentrations of porcine FSH (pFSH) and recombinant human FSH (rhFSH) were investigated for their effect on bovine cumulus expansion in vitro. Expression of FSHr, LHr and Cx43 mRNAs was determined in cumulus-oocyte complexes to determine whether they would be useful markers of oocyte competence. In serum-free media, only 1000 ng/ml pFSH induced marked cumulus expansion, but the effect of 100 ng/ml pFSH was amplified in the presence of 10% serum. In contrast, cumulus expansion occurred with 1 ng/ml rhFSH in the absence of serum. FSHr mRNA was highest at 0–6 h of maturation, then abundance decreased. Similarly, Cx43 mRNA expression was highest from 0–6 h but decreased by 24 h of maturation. However, the relative abundance of LHr mRNA did not change from 6–24 h of maturation. Decreased levels of FSHr, LHr and Cx43 mRNAs were detected in COCs of poorer quality. In conclusion, expansion of bovine cumulus occurred at low doses of rhFSH in serum-free media. In summary, FSHr, LHr and Cx43 mRNA abundance reflects COC quality and FSHr and Cx43 mRNA expression changes during in vitro maturation; these genes may be useful markers of oocyte developmental competence

The functional approach to Coulomb gauge Yang-Mills theory is considered
within the standard, second order, formalism. The Dyson-Schwinger equations and
Slavnov-Taylor identities concerning the two-point functions are derived

A controlled experiment for the empirical evaluation of safety analysis techniques for safety-critical software
Context: Today's safety critical systems are increasingly reliant on
software. Software becomes responsible for most of the critical functions of
systems. Many different safety analysis techniques have been developed to
identify hazards of systems. FTA and FMEA are most commonly used by safety
analysts. Recently, STPA has been proposed with the goal to better cope with
complex systems including software. Objective: This research aimed at comparing
quantitatively these three safety analysis techniques with regard to their
effectiveness, applicability, understandability, ease of use and efficiency in
identifying software safety requirements at the system level. Method: We
conducted a controlled experiment with 21 master and bachelor students applying
these three techniques to three safety-critical systems: train door control,
anti-lock braking and traffic collision and avoidance. Results: The results
showed that there is no statistically significant difference between these
techniques in terms of applicability, understandability and ease of use, but a
significant difference in terms of effectiveness and efficiency is obtained.
Conclusion: We conclude that STPA seems to be an effective method to identify
software safety requirements at the system level. In particular, STPA addresses
more different software safety requirements than the traditional techniques FTA
and FMEA, but STPA needs more time to carry out by safety analysts with little

DNA bubble dynamics as a quantum Coulomb problem
We study the dynamics of denaturation bubbles in double-stranded DNA on the
basis of the Poland-Scheraga model. We demonstrate that the associated
Fokker-Planck equation is equivalent to a Coulomb problem. Below the melting
temperature the bubble lifetime is associated with the continuum of scattering
states of the repulsive Coulomb potential, at the melting temperature the
Coulomb potential vanishes and the underlying first exit dynamics exhibits a
long time power law tail, above the melting temperature, corresponding to an
attractive Coulomb potential, the long time dynamics is controlled by the
