Realistic interpretation of a superposition state does not imply a mixture
Contrary to previous claims, it is shown that, for an ensemble of either
single-particle systems or multi-particle systems, the realistic interpretation
of a superposition state that mathematically describes the ensemble does not
imply that the ensemble is a mixture. Therefore it cannot be argued that the
realistic interpretation is wrong on the basis that some predictions derived
from the mixture are different from the corresponding predictions derived from
the superposition state
Self-interacting dark matter and Higgs bosons in the SU(3)_C x SU(3)_L x U(1)_N model with right-handed neutrinos
We investigate the possibility that dark matter could be made from CP-even
and CP- odd Higgs bosons in the SU(3)_C X SU(3)_L X U(1)_N (3-3-1) model with
right-handed neutrinos. This self-interacting dark matters are stable without
imposing of new symmetry and should be weak-interacting.Comment: 7 pages, Latex, To appear in Europhys. Let
Nonlinear optical interactions of topological modes of photonic nanostructures
Topological photonics aims to utilize topological photonic bands and corresponding edge modes to implement robust light manipulation. Importantly, topological photonics provide an ideal platform to study nonlinear interactions. In this talk, I will review some recent results regarding nonlinear interactions of one-way edge-modes in frequency mixing processes in topological photonic nanostructures. More specifically, I will discuss the band topology of 2D photonic crystals with hexagonal symmetry and demonstrate that SHG and THG can be implemented via one-way edge modes. Moreover, I will demonstrate that more exotic phenomena, such as slow-light enhancement of nonlinear interactions and harmonic generation upon interaction of backward-propagating edge modes can also be realized. Finally, FWM of topological plasmon modes of graphene plasmonic crystals and SHG upon interaction of valley-Hall topological modes of all-dielectric photonic crystals will be discussed
Inherent Mach-Zehnder interference with "which-way" detection for single particle scattering in one dimension
We study the coherent transport of single photon in a one-dimensional
coupled-resonator-array, "non-locally" coupled to a two-level system. Since its
inherent structure is a Mach-Zehnder interferometer, we explain the destructive
interference phenomenon of the transmission spectrums according to the effect
of which-way detection. The quantum realization of the present model is a
nano-electromechanical resonator arrays with two nearest resonators coupled to
a single spin via their attached magnetic tips. Its classical simulation is a
waveguide of coupled defected cavity array with double couplings to a side
defected cavity.Comment: 5 papges, 4 figure

Resveratrol improves mitochondrial energetic pathway and endothelial function in type 2 diabetic female rat heart submitted to ischemia-reperfusion injury
International audienceType 2 diabetic women present high risk of mortality by cardiovascular (CV) disease in comparison to non-diabetic women. Most of anti-diabetic treatments do not decrease patient’s CV mortality, therefore new approaches need to be found. Resveratrol (RSV) is a polyphenol found in grapes reported to be beneficial on oxidative stress, endothelial dysfunction andinflammation involved in CV complications of T2D
Suppression of interdiffusion in GaAs/AlGaAs quantum-well structure capped with dielectric films by deposition of gallium oxide
In this work, different dielectric caps were deposited on the GaAs/AlGaAs quantum well(QW) structures followed by rapid thermal annealing to generate different degrees of interdiffusion. Deposition of a layer of GaxOy on top of these dielectric caps resulted in significant suppression of interdiffusion. In these samples, it was found that although the deposition of GaxOy and subsequent annealing caused additional injection of Ga into the SiO₂ layer, Ga atoms were still able to outdiffuse from the GaAsQW structure during annealing, to generate excess Ga vacancies. The suppression of interdiffusion with the presence of Ga vacancies was explained by the thermal stress effect which suppressed Ga vacancydiffusion during annealing. It suggests that GaxOy may therefore be used as a mask material in conjunction with other dielectric capping layers in order to control and selectively achieve impurity-free vacancy disordering.J.
