A Methodology for Simulated Experiments in Interactive Search
Interactive information retrieval has received much attention in recent years, e.g. [7]. Furthermore, increased activity in developing interactive features in search systems used across existing popular Web search engines suggests that interactive systems are being recognised as a promising next step in assisting information search. One of the most challenging problems with interactive systems however remains evaluation.
We describe the general specifications of a methodology for conducting controlled and reproducible experiments in the context of interactive search. It was developed in the AutoAdapt project1 focusing on search in intranets, but the methodology is more generic than that and can be applied to interactive Web search as well. The goal of this methodology is to evaluate the ability of different algorithms to produce domain models that provide accurate suggestions for query modifications. The AutoAdapt project investigates the application of automatically constructed adaptive domain models for providing suggestions for query modifications to the users of an intranet search engine. This goes beyond static models such as the one employed to guide users who search the Web site of the University of Essex which is based on a domain model that has been built in advance using the documents’ markup structure
Comments on AdS2 solutions of D=11 Supergravity
We study the supersymmetric solutions of 11-dimensional supergravity with a
factor of made of M2-branes. Such solutions can provide gravity duals
of superconformal quantum mechanics, or through double Wick rotation, the
generic bubbling geometry of M-theory which are 1/16-BPS. We show that, when
the internal manifold is compact, it should take the form of a warped

Effect of sintering temperature under high pressure in the uperconductivity for MgB2
We report the effect of the sintering temperature on the superconductivity of
MgB2 pellets prepared under a high pressure of 3 GPa. The superconducting
properties of the non-heated MgB2 in this high pressure were poor. However, as
the sintering temperature increased, the superconducting properties were vastly
enhanced, which was shown by the narrow transition width for the resistivity
and the low-field magnetizations. This shows that heat treatment under high
pressure is essential to improve superconducting properties. These changes were
found to be closely related to changes in the surface morphology observed using
scanning electron microscopy.Comment: 3 Pages including 3 figure
Microstructure and pinning properties of hexagonal-disc shaped single crystalline MgB2
We synthesized hexagonal-disc-shaped MgB2 single crystals under high-pressure
conditions and analyzed the microstructure and pinning properties. The lattice
constants and the Laue pattern of the crystals from X-ray micro-diffraction
showed the crystal symmetry of MgB2. A thorough crystallographic mapping within
a single crystal showed that the edge and c-axis of hexagonal-disc shape
exactly matched the (10-10) and the (0001) directions of the MgB2 phase. Thus,
these well-shaped single crystals may be the best candidates for studying the
direction dependences of the physical properties. The magnetization curve and
the magnetic hysteresis for these single crystals showed the existence of a
wide reversible region and weak pinning properties, which supported our single

Quantum Monte Carlo Loop Algorithm for the t-J Model
We propose a generalization of the Quantum Monte Carlo loop algorithm to the
t-J model by a mapping to three coupled six-vertex models. The autocorrelation
times are reduced by orders of magnitude compared to the conventional local
algorithms. The method is completely ergodic and can be formulated directly in
continuous time. We introduce improved estimators for simulations with a local
sign problem. Some first results of finite temperature simulations are
presented for a t-J chain, a frustrated Heisenberg chain, and t-J ladder
