    El objetivo del presente trabajo es fundamentar los beneficios de la contribución del asesoramiento profesional en la generación y transferencia del conocimiento, para la toma de decisiones en las políticas públicas que permita apropiarse de los avances y aplicaciones resultantes del trabajo científico desarrollado.Las Radiaciones No Ionizantes (RNI) son aquellas que no poseen la energía suficiente para ionizar la materia, pero que producen otro tipo de efectos, especialmente de tipo térmico. Sus efectos a largo plazo sobre la salud de los seres humanos aún es materia de discusión y es por esto que se genera en la ciudadanía una honda preocupación por el desconocimiento y falta de normativas a nivel municipal. El Grupo ITMA reúne un grupo interdisciplinario de profesionales con el objetivo de investigar el impacto de las RNI sobre el medio ambiente y los sistemas biológicos. Una de sus actividades es el asesoramiento a municipios y organismos públicos respecto de las RNI, en particular, el despliegue de antenas de telefonía móvil para generar ordenanzas municipales que contribuyan a la tranquilidad y mejora de la calidad de vida de la comunidad y contemplen los controles necesarios para preservar estas condiciones en el tiempo

    The Immune Landscapes of Polypoid and Nonpolypoid Precancerous Colorectal Lesions.

    Little is known about the immunoediting process in precancerous lesions. We explored this aspect of benign colorectal adenomas with a descriptive analysis of the immune pathways and immune cells whose regulation is linked to the morphology and size of these lesions. Two series of polypoid and nonpolypoid colorectal adenomas were used in this study: 1) 84 samples (42 lesions, each with matched samples of normal mucosa) whose gene expression data were used to quantify the tumor morphology- and size-related dysregulation of immune pathways collected in the Molecular Signature Database, using Gene Set Enrichment Analysis; 2) 40 other lesions examined with immunohistochemistry to quantify the presence of immune cells in the stromal compartment. In the analysis of transcriptomic data, 429 immune pathways displayed significant differential regulation in neoplasms of different morphology and size. Most pathways were significantly upregulated or downregulated in polypoid lesions versus nonpolypoid lesions (regardless of size). Differential pathway regulation associated with lesion size was observed only in polypoid neoplasms. These findings were mirrored by tissue immunostaining with CD4, CD8, FOXP3, MHC-I, CD68, and CD163 antibodies: stromal immune cell counts (mainly T lymphocytes and macrophages) were significantly higher in polypoid lesions. Certain markers displayed significant size-related differences regardless of lesion morphology. Multivariate analysis of variance showed that the marker panel clearly discriminated between precancerous lesions of different morphologies and sizes. Statistical analysis of immunostained cell counts fully support the results of the transcriptomic data analysis: the density of infiltration of most immune cells in the stroma of polypoid precancerous lesions was significantly higher than that observed in nonpolypoid lesions. Large neoplasms also have more immune cells in their stroma than small lesions. Immunoediting in precancerous colorectal tumors may vary with lesion morphology and stage of development, and this variability could influence a given lesion's trajectory to cancer

    Protective coatings for ceramic superplastic forming dies : an initial study on protective coating performance

    Superplastic forming (SPF) is an advanced manufacturing process, typically restricted to low volume and high value products, where metallic sheets are heated at the superplastic temperature and blow formed into a metallic die. Refractory ceramics are a low cost option to substitute the high temperature resistant steels and other alloys conventionally used in SPF dies, but their brittle nature is a limiting factor for most SPF applications. Suitable surface coatings have shown a significant effect on wear resistance and can be employed to improve the ceramic performance in terms of tool life. This paper is focused on an initial study on protective coatings for SPF ceramic dies to evaluate their effectiveness for SPF forming. The tests were conducted using a dedicated test rig built at the Advanced Forming Research Centre (AFRC) at the University of Strathclyde, and where the die-blank interaction under SPF conditions was replicated at laboratory scale

    Expression of orexin A and its receptor 1 in the rat epididymis.

    The hypothalamic peptide orexin A (oxA) derives from the proteolytic cleavage of the precursor molecule prepro-orexin. It binds with the high affinity G-protein-coupled orexin receptor 1 (OX1R). Here, we report the detection of oxA and OX1R in the principal cells of the rat caudal epididymis by immunohistochemistry. Both oxA and OX1R immunolabelling showed cytoplasmic supranuclear localization, filling the apical portion of the cells. The expression of prepro-orexin and OX1R mRNA transcripts in the rat epididymis was assessed by reverse-transcriptase polymerase chain reaction, while the presence of both these proteins in the tissue was confirmed by Western blotting analysis. Our findings provide the evidence for the presence of oxA and OX1R in the rat epididymis, and demonstrate that both proteins are locally synthesised, thus suggesting a role for oxA in governing the fertilizing capability of the immature male gamete

    Is there a relationship between joint hypermobility and gastrointestinal disorders in children?

    Background. The main aim of the study was to assess the association between joint hypermobility (JH) and gastrointestinal (GI) disorders in children. Methods. All children aged 4-17 years attending the clinics of the participating Pediatric Gastroenterology Centres for functional GI disorders (FGIDs) and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) were screened for joint laxity. JH diagnosis was inferred using the Beighton Score. JHS diagnosis was inferred based on the Brighton Criteria. Rome III Diagnostic Criteria were used to diagnose possible FGIDs. Ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease diagnoses were made according to the Porto Criteria. Age and sex- matched healthy children were enrolled as controls. Results. One-hundred-seventy children with GI disorders (70 with FGIDs, 50 with Crohn’s disease, and 50 with ulcerative colitis) and 100 healthy controls were enrolled in the study. JH was reported in 7/70 (10%) children with FGIDs (p=0.26 compared to controls), 4/50 (8%) children with Crohn’s disease (p=0.21 compared to controls) and 15/50 (30%) children with ulcerative colitis (p=0.09 compared to controls; p=0.01 compared to FGIDs; p=0.01 compared to Crohn’s). Conclusions. JH is more prevalent in patients suffering from ulcerative colitis compared to the healthy general population, yet the difference did not reach statistical significance. Likely, a proportion of children with ulcerative colitis and JH may show connective tissue abnormalities. However, whether JH can be considered a possible feature of pediatric GI disorders deserves further investigation

    Objective: This narrative review aimed to provide practitioners a synthesis of the current knowledge on the role of a low Fermentable Oligosaccharides Disaccharides Monosaccharides and Polyols diet in reducing symptoms associated with functional abdominal pain disorders in children. This review is focused on the pathophysiology, efficacy and criticism of low Fermentable Oligosaccharides Disaccharides Monosaccharides and Polyols diet in children. / Sources: Cochrane Database, Pubmed and Embase were searched using specific terms for Fermentable Oligosaccharides Disaccharides Monosaccharides and Polyols diet interventions and functional abdominal pain disorders. / Summary of the findings: In children, only one Randomized Control Trial and one open‐label study reported positive results of low Fermentable Oligosaccharides Disaccharides Monosaccha‐rides and Polyols diet; one Randomized Control Trial showed exacerbation of symptoms with fructans in children with Irritable Bowel Syndrome; no effect was found for the lactose‐free diet whilst fructose‐restricted diets were effective in 5/6 studies. / Conclusions: In children there are few trials evaluating low Fermentable Oligosaccharides Disaccharides Monosaccharides and Polyols in functional abdominal pain disorders, with encour‐aging data on the therapeutic efficacy particularly of fructose‐restricted diet. Additional effort sare still needed to fill this research gap and clarify the most efficient way for tailoring dietary restrictions based on the patient's tolerance and/or identification of potential biomarkers of low Fermentable Oligosaccharides Disaccharides Monosaccharides and Polyols efficacy, to maintain nutritional adequacy and to simplify the adherence to diet by labeling FermentableOligosaccharides Disaccharides Monosaccharides and Polyols content in commercial products
