Spiky Strings, Giant Magnons and beta-deformations

We study rigid string solutions rotating on the S^3 subspace of the beta-deformed AdS_5xS^5 background found by Lunin and Maldacena. For particular values of the parameters of the solutions we find the known giant magnon and single spike strings. We present a single spike string solution on the deformed S^3 and find how the deformation affects the dispersion relation. The possible relation of this string solution to spin chains and the connection of the solutions on the undeformed S^3 to the sine-Gordon model are briefly discussed.Comment: 20 pages, 2 figures; v2: typos corrected, references adde

    Generalized pulsating strings

In this paper we consider new solutions for pulsating strings. For this purpose we use tha idea of the generalized ansatz for folded and circular strings in hep-th/0311004. We find the solutions to the resulting Neumann-Rosochatius integrable system and the corrections to the energy. To do that we use the approach developed by Minahan in hep-th/0209047 and find that the corrections are quite different from those obtained in that paper and hep-th/0310188. We conclude with comments on our solutions and obtained corrections to the energy, expanded to the leading order in lambda.Comment: v.2 references added, citations corrected, 18 page

A note on spin chain/string duality

Recently a significant progress in matching the anomalous dimensions of certain class of operators in N=4 SYM theory and rotating strings was made. The correspondence was established mainly using Bethe ansatz technique applied to the spin s Heisenberg model. In a recent paper Kruczenski (hep-th/0311203) suggested to solve the Heisenberg model by using of sigme model approach. In this paper we generalize the solutions obtained by Kruczenski and comment on the dual string theory. It turns out that our solutions are related to the so called Neumann-Rosochatius integrable system. We comment on the spin chain solutions and on the string/gauge theory correspondence.Comment: v.2 One reference added, typos corrected, 21 page

On semiclassical calculation of three-point functions in AdS_5 \times T^(1,1)

Recently there has been progress on the computation of two- and three-point correlation functions with two "heavy" states via semiclassical methods. We extend this analysis to the case of AdS_5 \times T^(1,1), and examine the suggested procedure for the case of several simple string solutions. By making use of AdS/CFT duality, we derive the relevant correlation functions of operators belonging to the dual gauge theory.Comment: 18 pages, added referenc

A note on the Near Flat Limit for strings in the Maldacena-Nunez background

Recently Maldacena and Swanson suggested a new limit of string theory on the AdS5Ă—S5AdS_5\times S^5 background, the so called near flat space limit. The resulting reduced theory interpolates between the pp-wave limit and giant magnon type string solutions. It was shown that the reduced model possess many features of the original theory. On the other hand, theories with less supersymmetry are of great importance for the string/gauge theory correspondence. In this paper we study the near flat limit reduction of string theory on the Maldacena-Nunez background, which is dual to N=1\N=1 Yang-Mills theory. The reduced model interpolates between the pp-wave limit and a certain magnon type subsector of the theory. The similarity of the structures of the reduced model obtained here and that by Maldacena and Swanson indicates the possibility of existence of integrable subsectors of strings on the Maldacena-Nunez background.Comment: 1+23 pages, introduction improved and clarifying comments added, references added, results remain unchange

Semiclassical Strings, Dipole Deformations of N=1 SYM and Decoupling of KK Modes

In this paper we investigate the recently found Îł\gamma-deformed Maldacena-Nunez background by studying the behavior of different semiclassical string configurations. This background is conjectured to be dual to dipole deformations of N=1\N=1 SYM. We compare our results to those in the pure Maldacena-Nunez background and show that the energies of our string configurations are higher than in the undeformed background. Thinking in the lines of (hep-th/0505100) we argue that this is an evidence for better decoupling of the Kaluza-Klein modes from the pure SYM theory excitations. Moreover we are able to find a limit of the background in which the string energy is independent of Îł\gamma, these strings are interpreted as corresponding to pure gauge theory effects.Comment: 31 pages, references added, new solutions in Section 7 presented, an appendix added, to appear in JHE
