Towards wafer scale inductive determination of magnetostatic and dynamic parameters of magnetic thin films and multilayers
We investigate an inductive probe head suitable for non-invasive
characterization of the magnetostatic and dynamic parameters of magnetic thin
films and multilayers on the wafer scale. The probe is based on a planar
waveguide with rearward high frequency connectors that can be brought in close
contact to the wafer surface. Inductive characterization of the magnetic
material is carried out by vector network analyzer ferromagnetic resonance.
Analysis of the field dispersion of the resonance allows the determination of
key material parameters such as the saturation magnetization MS or the
effective damping parameter Meff. Three waveguide designs are tested. The
broadband frequency response is characterized and the suitability for inductive
determination of MS and Meff is compared. Integration of such probes in a wafer
prober could in the future allow wafer scale in-line testing of magnetostatic
and dynamic key material parameters of magnetic thin films and multilayers
On the evolutionary behaviour of BL Lac objects
We present a new well defined sample of BL Lac objects selected from the
ROSAT All-Sky Survey (RASS). The sample consists of 39 objects with 35 forming
a flux limited sample down to f_X = 8 x 10^{-13} cgs, redshifts are known for
33 objects (and 31 of the complete sample). X-ray spectral properties were
determined for each object individually with the RASS data. The luminosity
function of RASS selected BL Lac objects is compatible with results provided by
objects selected with the Einstein observatory, but the RASS selected sample
contains objects with luminosities at least tenfold higher. Our analysis
confirms the negative evolution for X-ray selected BL Lac objects found in a
sample by the Einstein observatory, the parameterization provides similar
results. A subdivision of the sample into halves according to the X-ray to
optical flux ratio yielded unexpected results. The extremely X-ray dominated
objects have higher redshifts and X-ray luminosities and only this subgroup
shows clear signs of strong negative evolution. The evolutionary behaviour of
objects with an intermediate spectral energy distribution between X-ray and
radio dominated is compatible with no evolution at all. Consequences for
unified schemes of X-ray and radio selected BL Lac objects are discussed.We
suggest that the intermediate BL Lac objects are the basic BL Lac population.
The distinction between the two subgroups can be explained if extreme X-ray

Fungicide, Insecticide, and Foliar Fertilizer Effect on Soybean Yield, Seed Composition, and Canopy Retention
Soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merr.] yield has increased over time through the introduction of new varieties and improved agronomic practices. However, seed protein concentration has decreased. We conducted field studies in 2018 and 2019 to investigate the effects of fungicide, insecticide, and foliar fertilizer application on grain yield and seed quality in two soybean maturity groups (MG). In‐season treatments targeted nutrient availability and soybean canopy duration during the seed‐filling period by fungicide, insecticide, or foliar fertilizer application at the onset of this period. Biomass samples were collected at R5, R6, and R7 and partitioned into plant parts. Year, location, and MG often influenced yield and seed composition, but foliar fungicide, insecticide, or fertilizer application had no impact on these parameters
Measurement of the analyzing power in pp elastic scattering in the peak CNI region at RHIC
We report the first measurements of the A_N absolute value and shape in the
-t range from 0.0015 to 0.010GeV/c^2 with a precision better than 0.005 for
each A_N data point using a polarized atomic hydrogen gas jet target and the

“Care for the common home” : responses to Pope Francis's Encyclical Letter
Abstract: This article aims to build awareness of the growing global crisis in social, economic and environmental terms from different disciplinary approaches. The authors respond to the message of Pope Francis presented in his Encyclical Letter published in 2015. The article provides a short current overview of the discourse and presents three hypotheses anchored in the disciplines of Psychology, Health and Theology for a deeper discussion of Pope Francis’s viewpoints on the challenges to humankind and how to address them. It thereby contributes to the discourse on health and religion with regard to the Pope’s message to the world community. The article leads to an interdisciplinary conclusion and directions for future research and practice
Incorporating different proportions of exotic maize germplasm into two adapted populations.
Maize breeders frequently wish to use exotic germplasm in their breeding programs without losing specific characteristics of their adapted material. The objective of this study was to determine the optimal proportions of exotic germplasm to incorporate into adapted populations (F2 = 50% exotic, BC1 = 25% exotic, BC2 = 12.5% exotic and BC3 = 6.25% exotic) to form the initial foundation population and to determine the heterosis between adapted x exotics. We used six exotic populations of different origins and two adapted populations representing a Brazilian heterotic pattern. In 1993-94 and 1994-95, the parents, F1, F2, BC1, BC2, BC3 and four checks were evaluated in six environments in central Brazil using an 8 x 9 simple rectangular lattice design. Higher mean values for yield were obtained as the proportions of exotic germplasm decreased. Some backcrosses produced more than the adapted populations BR 105 (7.59 ton/ha) and BR 106 (8.43 ton/ha). The best results were obtained when incorporating 6.25 or 12.5% of exotic genes. This trend was true for root lodging, stalk lodging and ear diseases but not for plant and ear height. The midparent heterosis for yield varied from - 16.1 to 40.3%. Midparent heterosis with positive and negative values were also found for the other traits. The results indicate the potential of exotic germplasm for developing good hybrids. After choosing the best exotic source, some recurrent selection might be appropriate in order to adapt and improve the exotic populations
