The Θ+\Theta^+ pentaquark baryon was searched for via the π−p→K−X\pi^-p\to K^-X reaction in a missing-mass resolution of 1.4 MeV/c2c^2(FWHM) at J-PARC. π−\pi^- meson beams were incident on the liquid hydrogen target with the beam momentum of 1.92 GeV/cc. No peak structure corresponding to the Θ+\Theta^+ mass was observed. The upper limit of the production cross section averaged over the scattering angle of 2∘^{\circ} to 15∘^{\circ} in the laboratory frame was obtained to be 0.26 ÎŒ\mub/sr in the mass region of 1.51−-1.55 GeV/c2c^2.The upper limit of the Θ+\Theta^+ decay width using the effective Lagrangian approach was obtained to be 0.72 MeV/c2c^2 and 3.1 MeV/c2c^2 for JΘP=1/2+J^P_{\Theta}=1/2^+ and JΘP=1/2−J^P_{\Theta}=1/2^-, respectively.Comment: 5 pages, 3 figures, 1 tabl

Measurement of the Xi-p Scattering Cross Sections at Low Energy

In this paper we report cross-section measurements for Ξ−p\Xi^-p elastic and inelastic scatterings at low energy using a scintillating fiber active target. Upper limit on the total cross-section for the elastic scattering was found to be 24 mb at 90% confidence level, and the total cross section for the Ξ−p→ΛΛ\Xi^-p\to\Lambda\Lambda reaction was found to be 4.3−2.7+6.34.3^{+6.3}_{-2.7} mb. We compare the results with currently competing theoretical estimates.Comment: 9 page

Expression of OATP Family Members in Hormone-Related Cancers: Potential Markers of Progression

The organic anion transporting polypeptide (OATP) family of transporters has been implicated in prostate cancer disease progression probably by transporting hormones or drugs. In this study, we aimed to elucidate the expression, frequency, and relevance of OATPs as a biomarker in hormone-dependent cancers. We completed a study examining SLCO1B3, SLCO1B1 and SLCO2B1 mRNA expression in 381 primary, independent patient samples representing 21 cancers and normal tissues. From a separate cohort, protein expression of OATP1B3 was examined in prostate, colon, and bladder tissue. Based on expression frequency, SLCO2B1 was lower in liver cancer (P = 0.04) which also trended lower with decreasing differentiation (P = 0.004) and lower magnitude in pancreatic cancer (P = 0.05). SLCO2B1 also had a higher frequency in thyroid cancer (67%) than normal (0%) and expression increased with stage (P = 0.04). SLCO1B3 was expressed in 52% of cancerous prostate samples and increased SLCO1B3 expression trended with higher Gleason score (P = 0.03). SLCO1B3 expression was also higher in testicular cancer (P = 0.02). SLCO1B1 expression was lower in liver cancer (P = 0.04) which trended lower with liver cancer grade (P = 0.0004) and higher with colon cancer grade (P = 0.05). Protein expression of OATP1B3 was examined in normal and cancerous prostate, colon, and bladder tissue samples from an independent cohort. The results were similar to the transcription data, but showed distinct localization. OATPs correlate to differentiation in certain hormone-dependent cancers, thus may be useful as biomarkers for assessing clinical treatment and stage of disease

OPTICS CORRECTION FOR KLYSTRON SWITCHING AT THE KEKB INJECTOR LINAC

Abstract For the high luminosity operation of the KEKB-factory, the beam injection time from the linac to the storage rings is desired to be short. However, the injection is sometimes interrupted by a temporary rf-trip of the klystron. In case of a serious failure, the klystron is switched to a spare one to compensate for the acceleration energy. After the switching, the injection is often degraded because of the beam optical mis-matching due to the change in the beam energy at each quadrupole. We have developed software which can estimate the beam energy at each quadrupole, calculate the optics so as to achieve the desired matching and change the settings of the relevant quadrupoles in short time. The experimental result of the recovery of the optical matching is also shown

    COMMISSIONING OF THE KEKB LINAC

Abstract The injector linac for the KEKB ring has been commissioned step by step since last autumn, while continuing the construction of the remaining parts as well as ordinary operation for beam injection into the Photon Factory. The commissioning has so far given quite satisfactory results: (1) A single-bunched beam with a charge of about 1.5 nC for direct injection into the ring was accelerated to the end of the linac (about 8 GeV)

Search for the pentaquark at J-PARC

We have been searching for the Θ^+ pentaquark via the π^−p→K^−X reaction at the J-PARC hadron facility. No peak structure was observed in the missing mass spectrum obtained at 1.92 GeV/c beam momentum. The upper limit for the production cross section averaged over the scattering angle from 2° to 15° in the laboratory frame was derived to be 0.26 ÎŒb/sr. In order to make a more stringent constraint we have also performed a measurement at 2.0 GeV/c. Present analysis status of this new data is reported

    High-resolution search for the Θ+\Theta^{+} pentaquark via a pion-induced reaction at J-PARC

The pentaquark Θ+\Theta^+ has been searched for via the π−p→K−X\pi^-p \to K^-X reaction with beam momenta of 1.92 and 2.01 GeV/cc at J-PARC. A missing mass resolution of 2 MeV (FWHM) was achieved but no sharp peak structure was observed. The upper limits on the production cross section averaged over the scattering angle from 2∘^{\circ} to 15∘^{\circ} in the laboratory frame were found to be less than 0.28 ÎŒ\mub/sr at the 90\% confidence level for both the 1.92- and 2.01-GeV/cc data. The systematic uncertainty of the upper limits was controlled within 10\%. Constraints on the Θ+\Theta^+ decay width were also evaluated with a theoretical calculation using effective Lagrangian. The present result implies that the width should be less than 0.36 and 1.9 MeV for the spin-parity of 1/2+1/2^+ and 1/2−1/2^-, respectively.Comment: 12 pages, 9 figures; published versio
