High Energy Hadron-Nucleus Cross Sections and Their Extrapolation to Cosmic Ray Energies
Old models of the scattering of composite systems based on the Glauber model
of multiple diffraction are applied to hadron-nucleus scattering. We obtain an
excellent fit with only two free parameters to the highest energy
hadron-nucleus data available. Because of the quality of the fit and the
simplicity of the model it is argued that it should continue to be reliable up
to the highest cosmic ray energies. Logarithmic extrapolations of proton-proton
and proton-antiproton data are used to calculate the proton-air cross sections
at very high energy. Finally, it is observed that if the exponential behavior
of the proton-antiproton diffraction peak continues into the few TeV energy
range it will violate partial wave unitarity. We propose a simple modification

Eikonal profile functions and amplitudes for and scattering
The eikonal profile function obtained from the Model of the Stochastic
Vacuum is parametrized in a form suitable for comparison with experiment. The
amplitude and the extended profile function (including imaginary and real
parts) are determined directly from the complete pp and p elastic
scattering data at high energies. Full and accurate representation of the data
is presented, with smooth energy dependence of all parameters. The changes
needed in the original profile function required for description of scattering

Asymptotic behaviour of the total cross section of p-p scattering and the Akeno cosmic ray data
I present a new determination of the total cross section for proton-proton
collisions from the recent Akeno results on absorption of the cosmic ray
protons in the p-Air collisions. Extrapolation to the SSC energy suggests

Queue modelling for successful implementation of the cash-less policy in Nigeria
In line with the realization of the vision of the cash-less policy as being fronted by the Central Bank of Nigeria, this paper seeks to solve problems of long waiting time and queue lengths of customers known to be associated with the queuing system of the Automated Teller Machine (ATM), an indispensable piece of machinery for successful implementation of the policy. To this end, the M/G/1 model, a single-channel queuing model with Poisson arrivals, General distribution service time has been applied in modelling the ATM queuing system across three commercial banks: Guarantee Trust Bank (GTB), Diamond bank and Ecobank all located in Lafia, Nasarawa State Nigeria, in order to reveal the associated queuing problems and proffer solutions via an empirical approach of distribution fitting to real time data of inter arrival and service times. The result revealed problems of long queue length, long waiting time and ATM (Server) over utilization to be common in all the three banks. The result of sensitivity analysis established that, an upgrade of ATM processor speed such that customers spend one (1) minute on the average in service, will ensure that no customer wait in queue and an average utilization of the ATM to check breakdown
Climate change and Pacific Island food systems
Climate change in Pacific Island countries and territories (PICTs) is projected to have significant impacts, including rising sea-levels, more violent tropical cyclones and droughts. Fish stocks in the tropical regions of the Pacific are expected to be directly affected by any changes that may occur in the ocean’s ecosystem. The four alternative scenarios of the future of the Pacific food systems that are reported in this booklet provide important insights into the different dimensions of the food system, including fisheries and forests, trade, affordability and consumption, and public health. The scenarios offer essential information for policy-makers, in order for them to be able to test and take steps toward developing policies that enhance resilience and strengthen adaptation to climate change among fishers and farmers in the Pacific region
Calculations of He+p Elastic Cross Sections Using Microscopic Optical Potential
An approach to calculate microscopic optical potential (OP) with the real
part obtained by a folding procedure and with the imaginary part inherent in
the high-energy approximation (HEA) is applied to study the He+p elastic
scattering data at energies of tens of MeV/nucleon (MeV/N). The neutron and
proton density distributions obtained in different models for He are
utilized in the calculations of the differential cross sections. The role of
the spin-orbit potential is studied. Comparison of the calculations with the
available experimental data on the elastic scattering differential cross
sections at beam energies of 15.7, 26.25, 32, 66 and 73 MeV/N is performed. The
problem of the ambiguities of the depths of each component of the optical
potential is considered by means of the imposed physical criterion related to
the known behavior of the volume integrals as functions of the incident energy.
It is shown also that the role of the surface absorption is rather important,
in particular for the lowest incident energies (e.g., 15.7 and 26.25

GazeDrone: Mobile Eye-Based Interaction in Public Space Without Augmenting the User
Gaze interaction holds a lot of promise for seamless human-computer interaction. At the same time, current wearable mobile eye trackers require user augmentation that negatively impacts natural user behavior while remote trackers require users to position themselves within a confined tracking range. We present GazeDrone, the first system that combines a camera-equipped aerial drone with a computational method to detect sidelong glances for spontaneous (calibration-free) gaze-based interaction with surrounding pervasive systems (e.g., public displays). GazeDrone does not require augmenting each user with on-body sensors and allows interaction from arbitrary positions, even while moving. We demonstrate that drone-supported gaze interaction is feasible and accurate for certain movement types. It is well-perceived by users, in particular while interacting from a fixed position as well as while moving orthogonally or diagonally to a display.
