Mechanics of cutting manoeuvres by ostriches ('Struthio camelus')
We studied the strategies used by cursorial bipeds (ostriches) to maneuver during running. Eight ostriches were induced to run along a trackway and execute turns. Ground reaction forces and three-dimensional kinematics of the body and leg joints were simultaneously recorded, allowing calculation of joint angles and quasi-static net joint torques. Sidesteps, where the leg on the outside of the turn changes the movement direction, and crossovers using the inside leg, occurred with nearly equal frequency. Ostriches executed maneuvers using a simple control strategy that required minimal changes to leg kinematics or net torque production at individual joints. Although ostriches did use acceleration or braking forces to control body rotation, their morphology allowed for both crossovers and sidesteps to be accomplished with minimal net acceleratory/braking force production. Moreover, body roll and ab/adduction of the leg shifted the foot position away from the turn direction, reducing the acceleratory/braking forces required to prevent under-or over-rotation and aligning the leg with the ground reaction force

Cardiovascular inflammation in healthy women: multilevel associations with state-level prosperity, productivity and income inequality
<p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>Cardiovascular inflammation is a key contributor to the development of atherosclerosis and the prediction of cardiovascular events among healthy women. An emerging literature suggests biomarkers of inflammation vary by geography of residence at the state-level, and are associated with individual-level socioeconomic status. Associations between cardiovascular inflammation and state-level socioeconomic conditions have not been evaluated. The study objective is to estimate whether there are independent associations between state-level socioeconomic conditions and individual-level biomarkers of inflammation, in excess of individual-level income and clinical covariates among healthy women.</p> <p>Methods</p> <p>The authors examined cross-sectional multilevel associations among state-level socioeconomic conditions, individual-level income, and biomarkers of inflammation among women (n = 26,029) in the Women's Health Study, a nation-wide cohort of healthy women free of cardiovascular diseases at enrollment. High sensitivity C-reactive protein (hsCRP), soluble intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (sICAM-1) and fibrinogen were measured between 1993 and 1996. Biomarker levels were examined among women within quartiles of state-level socioeconomic conditions and within categories of individual-level income.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>The authors found that favorable state-level socioeconomic conditions were correlated with lower hsCRP, in excess of individual-level income (e.g. state-level real per capital gross domestic product fixed effect standardized Î’eta coefficient [Std B] -0.03, 95% CI -0.05, -0.004). Individual-level income was more closely associated with sICAM-1 (Std B -0.04, 95% CI -0.06, -0.03) and fibrinogen (Std B -0.05, 95% CI -0.06, -0.03) than state-level conditions.</p> <p>Conclusions</p> <p>We found associations between state-level socioeconomic conditions and hsCRP among healthy women. Personal household income was more closely associated with sICAM-1 and fibrinogen than state-level socioeconomic conditions. Additional research should examine these associations in other cohorts, and investigate what more-advantaged states do differently than less-advantaged states that may influence levels of cardiovascular inflammation among healthy women.</p
MINIATUR KENDARAAN RINGAN PEMANJAT DINDING MENGGUNAKAN BALING BALING
Abstrak – Pembangunan gedung bertingkat banyak dilakukan di berbagai daerah di Indonesia untuk mendukung pertumbuhan ekonomi dan kebutuhan sosial. Setiap bangungna tentu membutuhkan perawatan yang baik agar dapat tahan lama dan aman untuk digunakan. Tugas perwatan seperti pembersihan gedung dan pengecatan biasa dilakukan oleh manusia dengan menaiki crane yang ditarik dari atas gedung atau truk yang dibuat khusus untuk itu. Namun hal ini tidak efisien dan memiliki resiko yang besar atas keselamatan pemakai. Sehingga diperlukan alat yang dapat melakukan perawatan gedung yang lebih efisien dan memiliki esiko kecelakaan sekecil mungkin, sepeti dengan kendaraan ringan berupa robot yang dapat melakukan tugas ini. Tugas akhir ini akan membuat kendaraan ringan yang dapat melaju pada permukaan horizontal dan permukaan vertikal. Alat (kendaraan ringan pemanjat dinding ) ini nantinya akan memiliki baling baling diatasnya yang dipasang 45o dari sudut normal untuk membantunya tetap melekat pada bidang vertikal. Kecepatan baling-baling pada alat ini akan berubah-ubah sesuai sudut kemiringan alat. Tugas akhir ini merancang dan mengimplementasikan metode self tuning PID pada motor BLDC. Kontroler PID digunakan karena memiliki respon yang cepat dan tidak emiliki offset. Dengan input berupa suddut 0o alat ini akan menambah kecepatan baling-baling jika sudut kemiringan kendaraan berubah menjauh dari sudut input, sehingga baling-baling akan memberi tekanan kepada kendaraan untuk tetap melekat di dinding. Kata Kunci : PID, sensor IMU MPU-6050, Motor BLDC.  Abstract - Highrise building is now rapidly developed to support economic and social needs in Indonesia. Every building have to be mantained well so it can be sustainable and safe to use. The maintenance procedure, such as cleaning up and re-painting, is generally done by workers on a crane and being pulled out by a machine from rooftop of the building. This high-risk procedure is ineffiecient. So there should be a more efficient and safe instrument or device such as a light-weight vehicle or robot to do the procedure. This final project aim to make a light-weight vehicle that can be used both in vertical and horizontal surface. There will be a rotor on top of the device. The rotor will be on 45o from normal angle in order to support the device so it can stick on vertical surface. The rotor speed is adjustable according to the surface’s sloping angle. This final project is using the implementation of self turning PID methode on BLDC rotor. PID controller is used due to its fast response without having an offset. With 0o angle as an input, the device will increase the speed if the sloping angle change greater than the input angle, so the rotor will give a compression to the device to stick in the verticalsurface.
