The thermomechanical processing of NiMoCr solid solution nickel base superalloy is the way to considerably influence the grain size. As uniform coarse grain size increases the creep strength and crack growth resistance. In the work, the processing to achieve uniform recrystallized grain structure with variation of thermomechanical parameters is investigated. The creep behavior of the alloy after various hot working conditions is determined. The results of creep tests showed that creep characteristics such as strain rate and lifetime were greatly dependent on the initial hot working conditions and annealing parameters

Voyager 1 (V1) crossed the heliopause into the local interstellar medium (LISM) in 2012. The LISM is a dynamic region periodically disturbed by solar transients with outward-propagating shocks, cosmic-ray intensity changes and anisotropies, and plasma wave oscillations. Voyager 2 (V2) trails V1 and thus may observe the solar transients that are later observed at V1. V2 crossed the termination shock in 2007 and is now in the heliosheath. Starting in 2012, when solar maximum conditions reached V2, five possible merged interaction regions (MIRs) have been observed by V2 in the heliosheath. The timing is consistent with these MIRs driving the transients observed by V1 in the LISM. The largest heliosheath MIR was observed by V2 in late 2015 and should reach V1 in 2018.Jet Propulsion Laboratory (U.S.) (contract 959203

Evolution of Magnetic Field Fluctuations and Their Spectral Properties within the Heliosphere: Statistical Approach

    Get PDF
We present the first comprehensive statistical study of the evolution of compressive and noncompressive magnetic field fluctuations in the inner heliosphere. Based on Parker Solar Probe (PSP) and Solar Orbiter data at various distances from the Sun, we show the general trends and compare them with Wind observations near 1 au. The paper analyzes solar wind power spectra of magnetic field fluctuations in the inertial and kinetic ranges of frequencies. We find a systematic steepening of the spectrum in the inertial range with the spectral index of around −3/2 at closest approach to the Sun toward −5/3 at larger distances (above 0.4 au), the spectrum of the field component perpendicular to the background field being steeper at all distances. In the kinetic range, the spectral indices increase with distance from −4.8 at closest PSP approach to ≈−3 at 0.4 au and this value remains approximately constant toward 1 au. We show that the radial profiles of spectral slopes, fluctuation amplitudes, spectral breaks, and their mutual relations undergo rapid changes near 0.4 au

Scale-dependent Polarization of Solar Wind Velocity Fluctuations at the Inertial and Kinetic Scales

We study the polarization properties of the velocity fluctuations in solar wind turbulence using high-resolution data from the Spektr-R spacecraft. The ratio of perpendicular to parallel velocity fluctuations in the inertial range is smaller than the equivalent ratio for magnetic fluctuations, but gradually increases throughout this range. In the kinetic range, there is a large decrease in the ratio, similar to the magnetic fluctuations. We compare the measurements to numerical solutions for a combination of kinetic Alfvén waves and slow waves, finding that both the slow increase and sharp decrease in the ratio are consistent with a majority population of Alfvén waves and minority population of slow waves in critical balance. Furthermore, the beta-dependence of this scale-dependent ratio can be successfully captured in the model when incorporating a beta-dependent Alfvén to slow wave ratio similar to that observed in the solar wind

Structure and properties of trip steel after heat treatment

    No full text
In transformation induced plasticity (TRIP) steels, proper microstructure is essential. The TRIP effect provides the material with high plasticity owing to high volume fraction of ductile phases (ferrite and austenite) in microstructure. In consequence, it provides high hardening through deformation and transformation. The hardening is caused by transformation of retained austenite to martensite. Suitable microstructure for TRIP effect can be obtained by either thermomechanical or heat treatment. present paper describes development of an intercritical annealing technology, which guarantees fine-grained microstructure formation consisting of appropriate fractions of ferrite, lower bainite and retained austenite. Such structure is suitable for further cold forming with TRIP effect hardening. Real products like tubes or sheets were processed from derived experimental results
