    Since the degree of polarization of the vector particle in semileptonic decay strongly influences the decay width of the particles, it can be used as a measure of CKM matrix elements.     Fabrication of Microstructure Array using the Projection Microstereolithography System

    Microstereolithography technology is similar to the conventional stereolithography process and enables to fabricate a complex 3D microstructure. This is divided into scanning and projection type according to aiming at precision and fabrication speed. The scanning MSL fabricates each layer using position control of laser spot on the resin surface, whereas the projection MSL fabricates one layer with one exposure using a mask. In the projection MSL, DMD used to generate dynamic pattern consists of micromirrors which have per side. The fabrication range and resolution are determined by the field of view of the DMD and the magnification of the projection lens. If using the projection lens with high power, very fine microstructures can be fabricated. In this paper, the projection MSL system adapted to a large surface for array-type fabrication is presented. This system covers the meso range, which is defined as the intermediate range between micro and macro, with a resolution of a few . The fabrication of array-type microstructures has been demonstrated to verify the performance of implemented system

    Pauli paramagnetism of an ideal Fermi gas

    We show how to use trapped ultracold atoms to measure the magnetic susceptibility of a two-component Fermi gas. The method is illustrated for a non-interacting gas of 6^6Li, using the tunability of interactions around a wide Feshbach resonances. The susceptibility versus effective magnetic field is directly obtained from the inhomogeneous density profile of the trapped atomic cloud. The wings of the cloud realize the high field limit where the polarization approaches 100%, which is not accessible for an electron gas.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figure

    Optical and photoelectric properties of Mn-doped ZnS thin film on a flexible indium-tin-oxide/polyethylene terephthalate substrate prepared by pulsed laser deposition

    Optical and photoelectric properties of Mn-doped ZnS thin films on indium-tin-oxide (ITO)/polyethylene terephthalate (PET) substrates by pulsed laser deposition (PLD) were investigated. The XRD patterns revealed that the thin film deposited at room temperature (RT) had a wurtzite phase, which changed to a sphalerite phase at a substrate temperature of approximately 100°C. The transmittance of the films was approximately 87% in the visible range. The optical bandgap of the film deposited at RT was 3.29 eV, which increased to 3.361 eV with increasing substrate temperature to 200°C. The photoluminescence (PL) intensity at 468 nm and the photocurrent by UV irradiation increased in proportion to the substrate temperature. The present results imply that Mn-doped ZnS films deposited on flexible PET substrates are useful for fabricating flexible optoelectronic devices such as flexible UV detectors. © 2016 Optical Society of America.1

    Clinical features of adolescents with suicide attempt and the factors associated with their outcomes: poisoning versus non-poisoning

    Purpose Methods for suicide attempt are largely divided into poisoning and non-poisoning, which differ in clinical features and severity. We aimed to investigate the clinical features of adolescents with suicide attempt and factors associated with poor outcomes from the 2 methods. Methods A retrospective study was conducted on adolescents (10-18 years) who visited the emergency department after suicide attempt from 2011 through 2018. The adolescents were divided into the poisoning and non-poisoning groups. We analyzed the differences of clinical features and outcomes between the 2 groups. Poor outcomes were defined as hospitalization to the intensive care unit or death. Factors associated with poor outcomes were investigated using multivariable logistic regression. Results Of 4,335 adolescents in total, 2,134 (49.2%) were categorized as the poisoning group. In this group, the adolescents with poor outcomes used acetaminophen most frequently (26.5%), followed by sedative or antipsychotics (22.3%). In the non-poisoning group, those with the outcomes used fall from height (73.2%) most commonly, followed by hanging (21.0%). The factors associated with the outcomes were age (for increment of 1 year; odds ratio, 1.11; 95% confidence interval, 1.02-1.22) in the poisoning group, and being boys (1.34; 1.03-1.73) and non-use of alcohols (2.87; 1.73-4.74) in the non-poisoning group. Conclusion In adolescents who used poisoning for suicide attempt, increasing age is associated with poor outcomes. The outcomes are associated with being boys and non-use of alcohols in those who used non-poisoning methods

    Micro-Segregated Liquid Crystal Haze Films for Photovoltaic Applications: A Novel Strategy to Fabricate Haze Films Employing Liquid Crystal Technology

    Herein, a novel strategy to fabricate haze films employing liquid crystal (LC) technology for photovoltaic (PV) applications is reported. We fabricated a high optical haze film composed of low-molecular LCs and polymer and applied the film to improve the energy conversion efficiency of PV module. The technique utilized to fabricate our haze film is based on spontaneous polymerization-induced phase separation between LCs and polymers. With optimized fabrication conditions, the haze film exhibited an optical haze value over 95% at 550 nm. By simply attaching our haze film onto the front surface of a silicon-based PV module, an overall average enhancement of 2.8% in power conversion efficiency was achieved in comparison with a PV module without our haze film

    A Comparative Study on the Efficacy of Covered Metal Stent and Plastic Stent in Unresectable Malignant Biliary Obstruction

    Background/AimsThe placement of self expandable metal stent (SEMS) is one of the palliative therapeutic options for patients with unresectable malignant biliary obstruction. The aim of this study was to compare the effectiveness of a covered SEMS versus the conventional plastic stent.MethodsWe retrospectively evaluated 44 patients with unresectable malignant biliary obstruction who were treated with a covered SEMS (21 patients) or a plastic stent (10 Fr, 23 patients). We analyzed the technical success rate, functional success rate, early complications, late complications, stent patency and survival rate.ResultsThere was one case in the covered SEMS group that had failed technically, but was corrected successfully using lasso. Functional success rates were 90.5% in the covered SEMS group and 91.3% in the plastic stent group. There was no difference in early complications between the two groups. Median patency of the stent was significantly prolonged in patients who had a covered SEMS (233.6 days) compared with those who had a plastic stent (94.6 days) (p=0.006). During the follow-up period, stent occlusion occurred in 11 patients of the covered SEMS group. Mean survival showed no significant difference between the two groups (covered SEMS group, 236.9 days; plastic stent group, 222.3 days; p=0.182).ConclusionsThe patency of the covered SEMS was longer than that of the plastic stent and the lasso of the covered SEMS was available for repositioning of the stent
