Remote sensing for evaluating post-disaster damage conditions: The Pierre, South Dakota tornado, 23 July 1973
Remote sensing data obtained from aerial reconnaissance of tornado damage to the city of Pierre, South Dakota on July 23, 1973 was evaluated to determine its value as a decision making and management tool in post-disaster restoration activities. The imaging techniques used are briefly discussed, and both aerial and closeup color photographs are provided which were used in the evaluation. The immediate advantages of the data are identified as a 'quick-look' assessment, and a list is given which outlines the additional advantages for which positive rescue and cleanup action may be initiated. Hail and flood damage evaluation, and remote sensing of crop damage due to insect of disease infestation is also briefly described
Towards the M(atrix) model action in an arbitrary 11D supergravity background. Progress report
We are searching for the action principle for multiple M0-brane (multiple
M-wave or mM0) system starting from the mM0 equations of motion obtained in the
frame of superembedding approach. Surprisingly, the way from these equations to
the action happens to be hampered by a problem which suggests a possible
generalization of the action principle which we call "hierarchical action

Electrical characterization of a Mapham inverter using pulse testing techniques
Electric power requirements for aerospace missions have reached megawatt power levels. Within the next few decades, it is anticipated that a manned lunar base, interplanetary travel, and surface exploration of the Martian surface will become reality. Several research and development projects aimed at demonstrating megawatt power level converters for space applications are currently underway at the NASA Lewis Research Center. Innovative testing techniques will be required to evaluate the components and converters, when developed, at their rated power in the absence of costly power sources, loads, and cooling systems. Facilities capable of testing these components and systems at full power are available, but their use may be cost prohibitive. The use of a multiple pulse testing technique is proposed to determine the electrical characteristics of large megawatt level power systems. Characterization of a Mapham inverter is made using the proposed technique and conclusions are drawn concerning its suitability as an experimental tool to evaluate megawatt level power systems
Electrical properties of teflon and ceramic capacitors at high temperatures
Space power systems and components are often required to operate efficiently and reliably in harsh environments where stresses, such as high temperature, are encountered. These systems must, therefore, withstand exposure to high temperature while still providing good electrical and other functional properties. Experiments were carried out to evaluate Teflon and ceramic capacitors for potential use in high temperature applications. The capacitors were characterized in terms of their capacitance and dielectric loss as a function of temperature, up to 200 C. At a given temperature, these properties were obtained in a frequency range of 50 Hz to 100 kHz. DC leakage current measurements were also performed in a temperature range from 25 to 200 C. The results obtained are discussed and conclusions are made concerning the suitability of the capacitors studied for high temperature applications

Therefore, these systems must withstand the high temperature exposure while still providing good electrical and other functional properties. Experiments were carried out to evaluate glass, teflon, and tantalum capacitors for potential use in high temperature applications. The capacitors were characterized in terms of their capacitance and dielectric loss as a function of temperature up to 200 C. At a given temperature, these properties were obtained in a frequency range of 50 Hz to 100 kHz. The DC leakage current measurements were also performed in a temperature range from 20 to 200 C. Generation and Measurement of Non Equilibrium Spin Currents in Two Terminal Systems
Generation and measurement of non-equilibrium spin current in two probe
configuration is discussed. It is argued and shown that spin current can be
generated in two terminal non-magnetic system. Further it is shown that these
spin currents can be measured via conductance in two probe configuration when

A Cross-Sectional Study Exploring the Physical Activity Levels of Afghans and Other South Asian Youth in the UK
Introduction: Participating in regular physical activity (PA) has numerous benefits, such as reducing obesity, chronic degenerative conditions, and depression. Despite many health-related benefits, physical inactivity is increasing in young people worldwide, especially in ethnic minority groups, such as British South Asians (BSAs). The aim of this study was to explore the PA levels of BSAs, specifically focusing on youth from Afghan, Pakistani, Bangladeshi, and Indian groups. Methods: A total of 191 (Afghans N = 44; Bangladeshi N = 39; Indian N = 56, Pakistani N = 52) youth from the West Midlands (UK) participated in this study (mean age 15.4 ± 0.5). The International Physical Activity Questionnaire—Short Form was used to measure PA levels. Data were modelled using a Bayesian approach to determine differences in PA levels. Results: The results indicated that 88.5% Afghans, 80% Bangladeshi, 78.6% Indians and 63% Pakistani reported engaging in <30 min of PA per day. Additionally, boys were more active than girls across all ethnic groups. Discussion: This study highlighted an alarmingly low proportion of young people from each BSA ethnic group meeting the PA guidelines. To the authors’ knowledge, this is the first study to explore and compare PA levels of the young British Afghan population, thus contributing novel findings to the area of BSA PA. Conclusion: Overall, the vast majority of BSA young people failed to meet the recommended PA guidelines of 60 min per day. Future research could utilise objective methods, such as Global Positioning System, pedometers and accelerometery to track and monitor PA levels, and could adopt an ecological approach to explore determinants of PA within each ethnic and gender group
J0316+4328: a Probable "Asymmetric Double" Lens
We report a probable gravitational lens J0316+4328, one of 19 candidate
asymmetric double lenses (2 images at a high flux density ratio) from CLASS.
Observations with the Very Large Array (VLA), MERLIN and the Very Long Baseline
Array (VLBA) imply that J0316+4328 is a lens with high confidence. It has 2
images separated by 0.40", with 6 GHz flux densities of 62 mJy and 3.2 mJy. The
flux density ratio of ~19 (constant over the frequency range 6-22 GHz) is the
largest for any 2 image gravitational lens. High resolution optical imaging and
deeper VLBI maps should confirm the lensing interpretation and provide inputs
to detailed lens models. The unique configuration will give strong constraints

Patient satisfaction in home health care
Aims and objectives. To assess the current use of patient satisfaction measures in home health care and to examine the reliability and validity of current measures of patient satisfaction in home health care.
Background. Patient satisfaction has been one of the widely used measures in home health care as an indicator of quality of care. A few efforts have been made to develop psychometrically sound patient satisfaction scales for use in home health care.
Design. A critical review of the literature.
Methods. Electronic databases were systematically searched to identify the studies or publications that measured and addressed patient satisfaction and its measurement in home health care.
Results. The review of the literature showed that patient satisfaction measures have been used in the evaluation of care programmes including rehabilitation programmes, discharge and home follow‐up programmes, care process and
Constraining the evolution of young radio-loud AGN
GPS and CSS radio sources are the objects of choice to investigate the
evolution of young radio-loud AGN. Previous investigations, mainly based on
number counts and source size distributions, indicate that GPS/CSS sources
decrease significantly in radio power when evolving into old, extended objects.
We suggest this is preceded by a period of increase in radio luminosity, which
lasts as long as the radio source is confined within the core-radius of its
host galaxy. We have selected a sample of nearby compact radio sources,
unbiased by radio spectrum, to determine their radio luminosity function, size
distribution, dynamical ages, and emission line properties in a complete and
homogeneous way. First results indicate that the large majority of objects
(>80%) exhibit classical GPS/CSS radio spectra, and show structures consistent
with the being compact double, or compact symmetric objects. This sample
provides and ideal basis to further test and constrain possible evolution
scenarios, and to investigate the relation between radio spectra and
morphologies, orientation and Doppler boosting in samples of young radio-loud
