    This research aimed to determine the effect comparison Red Yellow Podzolic soil and sludge as growing media and get the best comparison that can support the growth and development of cocoa seedlings. The research was carried out experiments with 5 treatments using completely randomized design (CRD), each treatment was repeated four times so that there are 20 experimental units and each unit consists of 6 seed experiment so that the total population are120 seedlings. Treatments are: yellow red podzolic land only, 3 parts yellow red podzolic land: 1 part sludge, 2 parts yellow red podzolic land: 1 part sludge, 1 part yellow red podzolic land: 1 part sludgeand 1 part yellow red podzolic land : 2 part sludge with a ratio of parts by weight. Parameters measured were higher seed, stem diameter, number of leaves, leaf area,roots and crown ratio and dry of weight. Data were analyzed statistically and followed by Duncan's test at 5% level. Comparison of yellow red podzolic land with sludge as a soil media showed significant effect on plant height, stem diameter, number of leaves, leaf area, canopy ratio of dry weight of roots and seeds. Treatment of 1 part ground yellow red podzolic land: 1 part sludge showed the best results for the growth and development of cocoa seedlings

    Plant breeding programs aimed to increase the production, one of them with superior varieties. This study aims to obtain genotypes for high yield and tolerance in lowland. The study was conducted from June to October 2013 at faculty of Agriculture Riau University. The experimental design used was Randomized Block Design (RBD), consists of eight genotypes of tomato that IPB 3 x IPB 13, IPB 3 x IPB 64, IPB 3 x IPB 78, IPB 13 x IPB 64, IPB 13 x IPB 78, IPB 64 x IPB 78, Jawara and Fortuna, with 3 replication. Parameters observed are plant height (cm), stem diameter (mm), flowering date (HST), harvesting date (HST), fruit length (cm), fruit diameter (cm), fruit flesh thickness (mm), number of fruit space, weight of 100 seeds (g), number of fruit per plant, weight per fruit (g), weight total per plant (g). The results show variability genotypes tested and the results are different in each genotype. IPB 64 x IPB 78 has a higher yield (weight total per plant, weight per fruit and number of fruit per plant) higher than comparison varieties so that these genotypes can be recommended for furter investigation and could be released into suitable varietes in low land

    Most of the establishment of community forests fail due to lack of understanding about the characteristics of farmers. Effort to conserve cempaka (Michelia champaca L.) could be done through development of cempaka private forest. This research aimed to study correlation between internal characteristics of farmers (knowledge, attitude and behavior) with growth performance of cempaka on a private forest demonstration plot. Cempaka private forest was established in two phases (2012 and 2013), involved 36 farmers. Data was collected by structured interview with farmers and measurement of cempaka growth. Data were analyzed using Pearson Correlation Test. The result showed that there was a significant correlation between internal characteristics of farmers with growth performance of cempaka. Positive correlation was shown between attitude and behavior with the successfull of cempaka growth. The strongest correlation was shown by behavioral characteristic, as high growth performance of cempaka was strongly influenced by farmer's activity in plant maintenance. Distinctive farmer characteristics require different approaches farmers empowerment. Training in cultivation technique and economical aspect of cempaka should be provided to farmer with characeristics: good knowledge, good attitude, fair behavior. In contrary, land optimalization and strengthening farmers' institution to anticipate larger timber market should be conducted to farmer with characteristics: poor knowledge, good attitude, good behavior. This results could be applied for farmer empowerment at Ginanjar Village in the future

    Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan seni pertunjukan tradisional Minangkabau yang ditampilkan pada obyek wisata Istana Basa Pagaruyung. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskritif analisis, dengan mendata secara tekstual dan kontekstual seni pertunjukan tradisional di sekitar kawasan obyek wisata Istana Basa Pagaruyung. Teori yang digunakan adalah teori kemasan seni pertunjukan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa obyek wisata Istana Basa Pagaruyung memiliki berbagai daya tarik wisata alam, kuliner, dan museum yang ramai dikunjungi wisatawan pada hari libur. Namun demikian, obyek wisata ini belum memanfaatkan seni pertunjukan tradisional secara optimal. Pementasan ini dilakukan hanya 25 % dari jumlah hari libur yang ada dalam satu tahun. Di sekitar obyek wisata terdapat lebih kurang 200 sanggar seni pertunjukan tradisional yang memiliki paket seni pertunjukan musik, pertunjukan tari, dan teater tradisional. Paket seni pertunjukan terdiri dari seni tradisional dan paket seni yang telah dikreasikan, baik dari segi garapan materi dan kostum

    : The strategy of school committee is one factor of the success of educational program that includes the knowledge and motivation in improving the education quality. This study aimed to find out what the program of school committee, the strategy/approach used by the school committee, and the obstacle faced by the school committee in improving the education quality. This study used qualitative approach with descriptive method. Techniques of data collection used were observation, interview, and documentation study. Subjects of this study were chairperson of school committee, principal, and teachers. The results of the study showed that: (1) the programs of school committee in improving the education quality included regular meeting of school committee for each semester, participating to approve the School Activity and Budget Plans (RKAS)/School Budget (RAPBS), giving suggestion and recommendation to local government to improve the quality of educational services based on the school's need. However, the implementation of these programs was not effective yet. (2) The strategies of school committee in improving the education quality were regular meeting with school community at the end of each semester, together with the school, formulating vision and mission of school, formulating RKAS and RAPBS, and developing the potential to better prospect. (3) The obstacle faced by school committee in improving the education quality was the lack of communication between school and school committee because of the lack of time had by school committee, so that the programs of school committee became less effective

    Respon Tanaman Kedelai (Glycine Max (L) Merril) Terhadap Ethepon Pada Jarak Tanam Yang Berbeda

    The objective of this researchis to determine the response of soybean (Glycine max (L) Merril) on application of ethepon under two planting spaces and to determine the concentration of ethepon application for a specific planting space.A field experiment was conducted by using split plot design, in which four levels of ethepon concentration ie; 100 ppm, 200 ppm, 300 ppm and control were assigned to main plots and two levels of planting spaces ie; 40 cm x 15 cm and 40 cm x 20 cm were assigned as subplot. Parameters observed were plant height 35 days after planting, number of primary branches, internode length of the main stem, plant growth rate, leaf area index, days to flowering, grain yield per plot , and 100-seed weight. The data were analyzed by analysis of variance andfurther investigated by least significant difference atp = 0.05. The result shown thatethepon application tented to shorten plant height and internodes height, lessen the number of primary branches, decreased leaf area and leaf area index, accelerate flowering dates and decreased grain yield per plot, but not for 100-seed weight. The implication drawn from this research was that application of ethepon could not be recommended for soybean

    This objective of the study is to determine the performance of some tomato genotypes, agronomic characters in low land. The experiment was conducted from June to October 2013 et experiment yield, Agriculture Faculty University of Riau. The experiment used randomized block design (RBD) with three replications. The treatments were 9 genotype i.e. IPB 13 x IPB 3,IPB 64 x IPB 3,IPB 64 x IPB 13, IPB 78 x IPB 3,IPB 78 x IPB 13, IPB 78 x IPB 64, Permata, Jawara and Fortuna. The parameters are plant height, stem diameter, flowering date, harvesting date, fruit length, fruit diameter, number of fruit cavities, fruit flesh thicness, number of fruit per plant, weight per fruit and total fruit weight per plant. The results showed that genotypes significantly affected all of the parameter except stem diameter. IPB 78 x IPB 64 had the highest fruit length, fruit diameter, fruit flesh thicness, weight per fruit and total fruit weight per plant

    This research aims to determine the effect of N, P and K on the growth and yield of Bima Brebes and Thailand varieties onion and the best dosage to support in ultisol soil. This research has been conducted in the field of Agricultural Extension Center, Geringging Village. Kampar Kiri, Kampar District, Riau Province. This study was conducted in 2x4 factorial experiment arranged in a randomized completely block design (RCBD) comprises two factors. The first factor is varieties consisting of two levels is Bima Brebes and Thailand. The second factor is the dose of fertilizer, N, P, and K comprising 4 levels, namely: urea 250+ TSP 150 + KCl 100 kg/ ha, urea 500 + TSP 300 + KCl 200 kg/ha, urea 750 + TSP 450 + KCl 300 kg/ha dan urea 100 + TSP 600 + KCl 400 kg/ha. Parameters measured were dry weight, weight of tuber per hill, tuber number, tuber wrap, fresh tuber weight per plot and the weight of feaseable storage of tuber per plot. The result showed that the Thailand varieties of urea fertilizer and 1000 kg/ha + TSP 600 kg/ha + KCl 400 kg/ha gives the highest yield of onion crop
