Correlation between superfluid density and Tc of underdoped YBa2Cu3O6+x near the superconductor-insulator transition
We report measurements of the ab-plane superfluid density Ns (magnetic
penetration depth, \lambda) of severely underdoped films of YBa2Cu3O6+x, with
Tc's from 6 to 50 K. Tc is not proportional to Ns(0); instead, we find Tc ~
Ns^{1/2.3 +/- 0.4}. At the lowest dopings, Tc is as much as 5 times larger than
the upper limit set by the KTB transition temperature of individual CuO2

Two-Dimensional Nature of Four-Layer Superconductors by Inequivalent Hole Distribution
The magnetization of the four-layer superconductor
CuBa_{2}Ca_{3}Cu_4O_{12-\delta} with T_c\simeq117 K is presented. The
high-field magnetization around T_c(H) follows the exact two-dimensional
scaling function given by Te\v{s}anovi\'{c} and Andreev. This feature is
contrary to the inference that the interlayer coupling becomes strong if the
number of CuO_2 planes in a unit cell increases. Also, the fluctuation-induced
susceptibility in the low-field region was analyzed by using the modified
Lawrence-Doniach model. The effective number of independently fluctuating CuO_2
layers per unit cell, g_{\rm eff}, turned out to be \simeq 2 rather than 4,
which indicated that two among the four CuO_2 layers were in states far from
their optimal doping levels. This result could explain why
CuBa_{2}Ca_{3}Cu_4O_{12-\delta} shows two-dimensional behavior.Comment: 5 pages and 4 figure
Astragalus membranaceus augment sperm parameters in male mice associated with cAMP-responsive element modulator and activator of CREM in testis
AbstractAstragalus membranaceus BUNGE (AM; 黃芪 huáng qí) has been widely used as a medicinal herb for different kinds of diseases. AM treatment in vitro enhance sperm motility and ameliorates testicular toxicity, it has demonstrated the ability as a potential treatment for male infertility. In order to gain further insights on the molecular understanding of how AM enhances spermatogenesis, this study investigated whether AM has an affect on sperm parameters associated with cAMP response element modulator (CREM) and activator of CREM in testis (ACT) expression. Five-week-old male ICR mice were divided into four groups; control group and three different concentrations of AM treated groups. Each group was treated for 5 days a week for 5 weeks. Testis samples were collected for real time quantitative PCR and western blot analysis. Epididymis was taken out and used for sperm analysis using the computer assisted semen analysis (CASA) system. To facilitate expression of genes required for spermatogenesis, it is controlled by fine-tuning of CREM and its coactivator, ACT. AM treatment promotes CREM and ACT mRNA expression and also protein expression compared to control. AM enhances sperm values such as sperm count and motility compared to control. Overall, the study highlights, the ability of AM to increases CREM and ACT expression to facilitate sperm development and semen quality
Effect of sintering temperature under high pressure in the uperconductivity for MgB2
We report the effect of the sintering temperature on the superconductivity of
MgB2 pellets prepared under a high pressure of 3 GPa. The superconducting
properties of the non-heated MgB2 in this high pressure were poor. However, as
the sintering temperature increased, the superconducting properties were vastly
enhanced, which was shown by the narrow transition width for the resistivity
and the low-field magnetizations. This shows that heat treatment under high
pressure is essential to improve superconducting properties. These changes were
found to be closely related to changes in the surface morphology observed using
