MOP /Matrix Operation Programs system/
MOP /Matrix Operation Programs/ system consists of a set of FORTRAN 4 subroutines which are related through a small common allocation. The system accomplishes all matrix algebra operations plus related input-output and housekeeping details
Concept for automatic Doppler compensation in two-way communication systems
Automatic Frequency Control system compensates for Doppler shift in two-way communication systems where one or both stations are moving. This automatic correction can be applied to the reply link to elimate frequency search for the reply or an excessive bandwidth to accommodate the Doppler
Position sensing materials wound on a reel
Electro-optical counter measures number of layers of web wound on reel and indicates layer number and web position digitally, without physically contacting reel or requiring numerical interpolation from mechanical readout device
Method and apparatus for measuring web material wound on a reel
The method and apparatus for measuring the number of layers of a web material of known thickness wound on a storage or take-up reel is presented. The method and apparatus are based on the principle that, at a relatively large radius, the loci of layers of a thin web wound on the reel approximate a family of concentric circles having radii respectively successively increasing by a length equal to the web thickness. Tachometer pulses are generated in response to linear movement of the web and reset pulses are generated in response to rotation of the reel. A digital circuit, responsive to the tachometer and reset pulses, generates data indicative of the layer number of any layer of the web and of position of the web within the layer without requiring numerical interpolation
Digital system detects binary code patterns containing errors
System of square loop magnetic cores associated with code input registers to react to input code patterns by reference to a group of control cores in such a manner that errors are canceled and patterns containing errors are accepted for amplification and processing. This technique improves reception capabilities in PCM telemetry systems
Determination of the cosmological rate of change of G and the tidal accelerations of earth and moon from ancient and modern astronomical data
The theory and numerical analysis of ancient astronomical observations (1374 to 1715) are combined with modern data in a simultaneous solution for: the tidal acceleration of the lunar longitude; the observed apparent acceleration of the earth's rotation; the true nontidal geophysical part of this acceleration; and the rate of change in the gravitational constant. Provided are three independent determinations of a rate of change of G consistent with the Hubble Constant and a near zero nontidal rotational acceleration of the earth. The tidal accelerations are shown to have remained constant during the historical period within uncertainties. Ancient and modern solar system data, and extragalactic observations provided a completely consistent astronomical and cosmological scheme
