Performance appraisal satisfaction and turnover intention: the mediating role of work engagement
Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to examine the impact of performance appraisal satisfaction (PAS) on work engagement (WE) and the impact of WE on turnover intention. Furthermore, this paper investigates the mediating effect of WE between PAS and turnover intention. Design/methodology/approach: The sample consisted of employees of 12 oil and gas organisations operating in Malaysia. The data collection process consists of two surveys using a three-month time lag approach. A total of 295 samples were used for the final data analysis. Partial least squares structural equation modelling was performed to test the research hypotheses. Findings: The results indicate a strong causal relation between PAS, WE and turnover intentions. In brief, PAS was found to be a predictor of WE, and WE has a negative impact on employees’ turnover intention. Furthermore, WE proved to be a mediator between PAS and turnover intentions. Practical implications; The findings of this study can be used as a basis to consider PAS to increase employees’ level of WE and to decrease voluntary turnover. Overall, the findings provide pragmatic insights for human resource management practitioners and relevant stakeholders. Originality/value: To date, little is known about the interrelationship between PAS, WE and turnover intention. Importantly, the mediating role of WE between PAS and turnover intention has remained unexplored. This study fills this gap in the existing literature
Histopathology of urinary system
This chapter addresses in sufficient detail, the light microscopic features of ‘primary glomerulopathies’ and utility of ‘special stains’ as well as ‘immunofluorescence (IF)’ for precise categorization of these common lesions mostly autoimmune in nature. Renal allograft biopsies are also routine in centres where renal transplantation is done. These biopsies do require meticulous morphological scrutiny as many at times changes are subtle and easily overlooked. Ancillary testing may be necessary in some cases. Neoplasms of kidney and urinary bladder are also common in any general surgical pathology service. In recent years several new renal tumor entities are described and included. An attempt is made to not only provide salient diagnostic features and immunophenotype of common neoplastic entities but also of new entries along with non-neoplastic lesions which may affect these organs
Evolution of Wireless Communication to 6G: Potential Applications and Research Directions
Publisher Copyright: © 2022 by the authors. Licensee MDPI, Basel, Switzerland. The fifth-generation mobile network (5G), as the fundamental enabler of Industry 4.0, has facilitated digital transformation and smart manufacturing through AI and cloud computing (CC). However, B5G is viewed as a turning point that will fundamentally transform existing global trends in wireless communication practices as well as in the lives of masses. B5G foresees a world where physical–digital confluence takes place. This study intends to see the world beyond 5G with the transition to 6G assuming the lead as future wireless communication technology. However, despite several developments, the dream of an era without latency, unprecedented speed internet, and extraterrestrial communication has yet to become a reality. This article explores main impediments and challenges that the 5G–6G transition may face in achieving these greater ideals. This article furnishes the vision for 6G, facilitating technology infrastructures, challenges, and research leads towards the ultimate achievement of “technology for humanity” objective and better service to underprivileged people.Peer reviewe
Analysis of an ACC System for Sliding Mode and MPC under Transitional Manoeuvers
Two different control algorithms, sliding mode and MPC (Model Predictive Control) are employed to
analyse the performance of a linear vehicle model equipped with an ACC (Adaptive Cruise Control)
system. Both controllers are analysed under critical TM (Transitional Maneuvers) to investigate their
suitability for the ACC system. The simulation results, for the same scenario, from both controllers\'
approach have been compared. The results show that the MPC is more robust than the SMC (Sliding
Model Controller). The results show that the SMC algorithm is not suitable for the proposed vehicle
model. The shortcomings of the SMC have been highlighted and the comparisons are made with the
previous studies. The proposed approach can be useful for the selection of the appropriate controller for
the given application
Analysis of the Controllers for the Transitional Manoeuvres of Adaptive Cruise Control Systems
PID (Proportional-Integral-Derivative) and MPC (Model Predictive Control) algorithms are used to
synthesize the upper-level controller of a vehicle equipped with an ACC (Adaptive Cruise Control)
system. Both controllers are analysed, with and without constraints, using a simple vehicle model under
critical TM (Transitional Manoeuvres). A comparative analysis of both controllers’ results has been
conducted. The comparison gives the suitability of MPC for ACC application over PID controller. The
flaws of PID control approach for the given application are highlighted. This approach can be helpful for
selecting the suitable controller for the given applicatio
Fuzzy Logic Trajectory Tracking Controller for a Tanker
This paper proposes a fuzzy logic controller for design of autopilot of a ship. Triangular membership
functions have been use for fuzzification and the centroid method for defuzzification. A nonlinear
mathematical model of an oil tanker has been considered whose parameters vary with the depth of
water.
The performance of proposed controller has been tested under both course changing and trajectory
keeping mode of operations. It has been demonstrated that the performance is robust in shallow as well
as deep waters
Parametric Study of Nonlinear Adaptive Cruise Control for a Road Vehicle Model by MPC
MPC (Model Predictive Control) techniques, with constraints, are applied to a nonlinear vehicle model
for the development of an ACC (Adaptive Cruise Control) system for transitional manoeuvres. The
dynamic model of the vehicle is developed in the continuous-time domain and captures the real dynamics
of the sub-vehicle models for steady-state and transient operations. A parametric study for the MPC
method is conducted to analyse the response of the ACC vehicle for critical manoeuvres. The simulation
results show the significant sensitivity of the response of the vehicle model with ACC to controller
parameter and comparisons are made with a previous study. Furthermore, the approach adopted in
this work is believed to reflect the control actions taken by a real vehicle
